It's tiiiiime for an update... Went to get a roadworthy inspection today and it went pretty damn well but i have a few things to fix still.. before i went through, I had been cleaning up the engine bay making sure there are no signs of oil etc and just a general tidy up so they don't pick up on things as much.. i didnt even raise it up yet because i figured it was unlikely to pass first time round and i didnt want to do the springs when there was probably other stuff to do while i was under there.... SO.... once i have done the stuff on the list its free to go! stoked! THE LIST - Heater to operate (front windscreen demisters) - Rear seatbelt to operate correctly - Stickers to be removed from rear windows - Front eyebrow height to be 335mm - Rear eyebrow height to be 320mm - Both front wheel bearings have excessive play - Both front tie rod ends have excessive play Thats it! :jamie: The guy I had was friendly and knew his rollas. He said that overall the car is in great condition with very minimal rust and seems to never have been in a crash of any sort. Overall it was quite an enjoyable experience and certainly nothing like what I was expecting.. To anyone in SA needing to go through a roadworthy I highly recommend the Londsdale Inspection Centre! Look forward to getting stuck into it again and get this beast rolling.. Although not really looking forward to doing the heater :/ Cheers Chris

I was looking into this not long ago.. maybe look at the other cars like the ta22 rack and pinion conversion thread over on toymods to give you some idea what is involved. Not sure how similar the process would be but here is the thread.. http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/showthread.php?t=14102 To me it looks like more trouble than its worth. :) If there is a problem with your steering I would try renewing all steering components and I think you will find the original steering is actually pretty good, its just that all the parts are probably more than 30 yrs old so they are worn out. Cheers Chris

You have done a great job so far! Things which would make it look better in my opinion would be things like full chrome bumpers from a ke30. Maybe look into some nice wheels. The thin type of ke55 chrome strip for the bonnet maybe... But mostly the wheels. Not really a fan of those ones.... But seriously looking good so far!! :laff:

No they wont fit. They are 4x100, you need to look for 4x114.3. They are also a bit big really.. and probably far too much positive offset. Cheers Chris

Hey, and if you don't know already there is an inspection place like regency at lonsdale, which makes it easier to get to for people like us on this side of town. Cheers
-
Here is a wheel fitment thread from ae86dc. Has lots of ke70 too. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/s...-Fitment-Thread Would be good to get a thread going here too, for some of the older models.

By too close do you mean too close to the driver? Thats one thing I found when I had boss kit and sport wheel is was too close to me.. I'm heaps keen on a stock leather wrapped steering wheel kinda like this one(but obviously on a corolla wheel and maybe in black although brown would be chill) http://www.americangranada.com/owners/toms_76_granada-4.jpg With the leather twisted around it... The only issue I have with stock steering wheel is its kinda thin and also can get slippery. This would help both.

Oh man that sucks to hear.. sounds remarkably like the cop I got on a bike too... some of them sure can be wankers. Hopefully the damage isnt too bad at regency.. let us know how it goes. I am still dreading the day I take mine through..

I've seen this around brighton a few times gotta say it looks sweeeet. Meshies set it off nicely. Whats the plan with the rust spots? You going to get it colour matched? Cheers Chris

Mate who cares what people think.. if you like it, hit it up! Ke35 are kinda sporty anyway. Pretty sure they are defectable though if thats something your worried about... not sure about window shoppers, I doubt it would make a difference. I guess it depends on what kind of steering wheel it is though. Some of them are pretty wack looking IMO :)

Yeah prep is still the most important part, but with the paint you want to get it to about the consistency of milk. The thinner it is the faster it dries and also reduces the amount of orange peel you will get. So thin is good. Do 2 or 3 coats and then wet sand with something like 600 or 800, and repeat until you have solid colour. This can take up to 10-15 coats depending on how thin you go. Seriously though if you want to know more about it, because there is a lot to learn if you want a overrated finish, I would read through some of that massive thread about it. It's a gold mine of info on the topic.. White is a good colour to use because: -Imperfections don't show as much -You can get the exact colour (wattyl) in a can which saves you from doing fiddly bits with the roller -You can get white primer which saves you a shit load of time because its already white and you don't have to do as many coats for coverage -It looks overrated! But i gotta go, might come and think of more stuff later, Peace

Hey mate, I did this with Wattyl Kill rust it looked pretty good, easily mistaken for a spray job. Heres the thread I made about it http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=29141 And heres my old ke55 which got the treatment http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=30878 I used a the high density rollers. It worked pretty well but I rushed it a bit. ( it takes a fair long time to do) But if you have time rather than money.. its a good way to go. It would be better with other paint also. Such as Brightside or a marine grade enamel like Norglass which I think you can get from mitre 10... In the end though its all just enamel paint and its not as good as acrylic or 2pak. Easier to scratch, not as glossy and harder to remove if you want it gone i think too...

Looking good mate keep it up :)

Hey mate, we have had one at our house for a fair while and they are a huge improvement on normal tap water. Puratap seem pretty good too, they often come and replace stuff free of charge.. Like the actual tap part has been replaced twice for nothing. Once because the old one broke, another time just because we didn't have the latest model. And yeah filters are pretty cheap too. So I would say go for it.

haha yes WIN! now THAT is what I'm talking about...

I admit I got what I deserved. But as far as I know all suspension defects are classed as a "major" defect which means a full road worthy. So yeah I know what I got was probably fair, I guess I just wish I got lucky! I never get lucky when it comes to cars ;) Anyway enough dwelling on the past!! Doesn't get you anywhere!
-
Yeah morgzz got defected for "too low , too loud , and tinted tail lights" and he only had to take it to the police station to make sure he had fixed these problems and then he is good to go. Whereas I got defected for being "too low" nothing else and I get sent to Regency which means my car will be subject to a full roadworthy inspection. Just annoying that they can be so inconsistent.. Edit : don't blame you haha it was a fair rant!
-
Cheers guys, can't believe you only got a cop shop defect for that hey,,, I mean.. I'm happy for you by all means, but what is with the inconsistency ?? It seems like its just a matter of how lucky are you, has this cop had a root lately, did you punch him in the face, is he bleeding from the punch, did you spit on his face after that kinda thing ya know???? I was as polite as I know how to be and he was just like " NAH your FEGGIT go to regency !!! haha kthnxbi
-
HAHA! gold! Also rate your rolla pretty highly... Good stuff ;)
-
Thanks for the encouragement, I think thats just what i needed. Decided I will keep it for sure no matter what repairs are needed and just have it as a long term project. I like the idea of having a completely roadworthy car. I will also take up your offer when it comes time to start getting parts. Rollas FTMFW!

Not looking good for this car at the moment. Basically haven't done much work on it and not sure it's worth it.... Upon closer inspection I'm confident that it won't pass the inspection due to things like front windscreen is not great, some rubbers are a bit dodgy, engine mounts possibly gone, wiper motor not working properly, front wheel bearings, possibly brakes not good enough, no heater or AC (not sure if this matters buts its annoying), steering column doesn't hold key in etc etc etc... and basically have no money at the moment, haven't even payed off the speeding fine yet! This is either going to be a LONG term project or sell it cheap, get it out of my face (sounds better and better every time i look at it, just makes me grrrr) or part it out and scrap it. Might still take it through regency pretty much as it is just to see what the list is like and whether i'll keep it or not. So over it.....

few ke70s down at the lonsdale yard not much else as far as KEs go. no ke30 or 55 still
-
Cheers mate, i will do that.

too low but i accept it was my fault as i was speeding so thats why i got pulled over.. he laser gunned my from ages away, it was on the expressway going down a hill. $330 speeding fine for doing 89 in a 70 zone + defect. not my lucky day really.
