sooo.... that is running the dizzy as usual, but with the HT lead earthing out?? I usually put a spare spark plug in the main coil HT lead and lay it on something metal. You need the points working properly for the coil to spark.
-
Electronic dizzy or points?? Is there spark when you put a screwdriver in the points with the "ignition" on and wiggle it? or take off the dizzy cap and turn it over and watch the points- you should see a spark across them every now and then. No spark=problem at coil end or broken wire or condensor shot.

So its still on carbs, not fuel injection? What did the O2 sensor do with carbs? I haven't come across an ECU with carbs but I suppose some of the realy tricky emission valves could be computer controlled. Have you tried these guys? http://www.3tcgarage.com/

Ke70 Exhaust Best Way To Achieve A Top Sound
altezzaclub replied to ke70benny's topic in General Mechanical
270deg Crow cam, twin inch & 1/4 SUs, 4-1 extractors.... more or less stock... :laff: The dude did a great job with the exhaust, I told him I wanted the 2" stepped down to 1 & 3/4 after the resonator, and he said he picked a muffler that had an old-school MG-B sound to it, so it gets crackly if I boot it hard. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/42407-the-girls-ke70/page__st__15 -
So, are you converting from the USA's carbs to Japanese fuel injection shooter? Did you get all the bits you needed? That's the bit that worries me!

The answer to- surely is..... "Why" is the real question... there is enough oil to run the place without everyone rushing off to grow corn and turn it into fuel. Within 20years solar will be far more efficient than it is, nuclear reactors will be being built again and if we are really lucky there will be a breakthough in cold fusion. So why the hell would they want us to use so much of a second-rate fuel?? Keeping the good stuff for the military are they??

What Would You Do If You Were In My Shoes?

Are EFi swaps really like that?? I figure that they needs all sorts of sensors and computers and wiring that won't be in an older car so you spend months hunting down odd problems that may not have occurred in the original EFi car. Seems that way with the Altezzas, but they're trying to keep the climate control running and the other peripherals and end up blending two computers. I wouldn't really know, having never fitted EFi. Any ideas from you guys that have done it?? -
Well, the white whale needs 4tyres, 2 rear shocks and a mighty engine clean until oil leaks are un-noticeable, then another rego inspection. I don't know if your rear shocks go up through the body with a vertical pin like any decently designed shock would, but the wagon's are held in a little cupboard by a horizontal bolt right beside the spring. What a dog to get out!! No room for a socket, 1/8 turn at a time, only one hand's room... If you're planning a shock change, allow for lots of time and swearing! Skidz, when you're under the bonnet could you take the oil cap off and let me know if that changes the idle speed?? Pulling the rubber tube off the tappet cover does, it nearly dies unless you block it with your hand, so I thought 'well there must be a valve in the cover that stops that'. But when I put the tube back on and took the oil cap off it changed it too, which is quite odd. Actually, now I think about it there is no PCV that I could see, so maybe it keeps the whole engine under vacuum... Which means my oil leaks are fighting against vacuum to get out! It does blow enough oil vapour to fill the plasic airway that contains the airflow sensor with oil!! :laff:

Ke70 Exhaust Best Way To Achieve A Top Sound

This was taken in the boot- So I reversed up the drive, then out into the toad, then drove through a few T-junctions we have close to home. http://img715.imageshack.us/my.php?image=6yjj.mp4 and this was incar, just driving down the road. Now I realsie there is a lot more background noise inside the car than exhaust noise! http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/4098/a2h.mp4 -
If it does run well we would like to know what venturis are in there and what jets you are using. Somewhere along the way we will get a library of carb jetting set up so people can buy carbs off other cars and easily jet them to 4Ks.

Do you want to drive it or are you happy for it to languish in the garage for a few years in pieces? Like my Datsun 1600 that was last registered in 2001 !! Do the manual conversion and the Holley, & drive it for the rest of the year while you get the 4AGE fully sorted and ready to drop in. When you have holidays you hit the 4AGE conversion. -
Calorific value must be lower as it already has an oxygen taking up the place of a carbon or hydrogen, so yes, you need more of it to get the same power. The guys who run on methanol use giant jets to feed enough fuel in. here- Wiki.. Ethanol is particularly pathetic. Fuel↓ kJ/g↓ Hydrogen 141.9 Gasoline 47.0 Diesel 45.0 Ethanol 29.7 Propane 49.9 Butane 49.2

I use the E10 becasue its 95octane and as cheap as everyone else's 91. It doesn't seem to have any ill effects. I'd worry about E15 though, which will be the next step. That's too much alcohol and water liabilities. Not to mention what it does to a breath test.. adds an alcohol background that fails you easier! :laff: Of course you do have Brent crude at $107/barrel tonight when it was $75 a short time ago, plus Libya's problems of Govt PLUS the fact that last month world demand exceeded supply for the first time in years, so you can expect to see petrol rocketing up and less and less real oil in it! I thought Aussie's alcohol came from fermenting sugar cane waste, a much better idea than using corn. Without the poor fking American taxpayer subsidising the hell out of their corn industry for 50years this would never have got off the ground.

Philbey do you use a head gasket sealant when you're assembling high-comp engines?? Hylomar or Permatex or something?

Nah- repair it. What broke? Almost anything can be fixed...

Wrap the headers Andy. Atrocious piece of design putting the starter and alty under the exhaust, but you can keep them cooler. -

Even 2" is bigger than you need. Get the extractors, which end in a 2" pipe, run it 2" to a 2" resonator, the longest you can buy, then run inch & 3/4 to the back with a tri-chamber muffler not a straight-through. The resonator takes out the harsh crackle and stops it backfiring. Sounds great, a little louder that sotck, breathes well and never attracts the cops. Maybe we should start posting up some sound tracks! -
How To Boost Hp On 4K With Out Turbo

Weber, cam and quiet exhaust. & a 5speed! The Weber looks enough like the stock carb, the cam doesn't want to be more than 270deg, and if you keep the exhaust quiet no-one will notice it. Best way to fail... matt black, or more than one colour, chopped springs, wide wheels, no bumpers, 2" exhaust and cannon, no air filter for wild induction noise... and drive it like you stole it! :laff: -
Its only a few hundred revs at 100kph, but it is very worthwhile, knocking it from 3500 back to just over 3000 on my auto diff. If you come to a hill dropping it down to 4th at 3000rpm usually runs it over the hill without dropping any more speed. I'd like the manual's 4.1 instead of the auto's 4.3, but this diff is in great condition so I can't justify the cost of changing it. Every KE70 should have had one!

Yeah, but I'm sure this makes it all non-applicable!! :laff: Do the same as I've done- The usual stuff, so it keeps up with the trafffic and cruises at 100kph without a problem. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/42407-the-girls-ke70/page__p__445727__fromsearch__1#entry445727 -
Got photos?? Do you reckon it has affected the mixture richness, or does it not seal to the filter box??

You're dead right Banjo, machining that down reduces pressure plate pressure, so its like taking half a mm or whatever off the clutch plate. The nice thing is, that if you surface the face back 1mm and the carry area where the pressure plate bolts on back by 2mm, you've just increased your clamping pressure! Instant heavy-duty clutch.. :laff:

I'd guess the same, white for signal others for heater. What do Ford forums say?? The output will only be 1V max, and you can't afford to do some funny things like stick an ohm-meter on the sensor if it puts out more than that. The airbox is pretty agricultural but it hides a full size air filter and a set of ram tubes, so I couldn't make it smaller... and I still run the PCV system in it too.
-
I'm sure you can- it will still be bigger than the stock Asian. It will work twice as hard, which it can quite easily do, but you will need to re-jet it & it needs that anyway by the sound of it. Get it up and running and put it on a dyno with a gas analyser, or buy an FMD & oxy sensor. It should produce good power and still be economical. Solex woudn't be my choice, but lots of people love them.
