  5. Thought i'd have an update, has been a while. Just had the car tuned and is running so sweet, and now i'm onto some projects for it. Both of the ones i'm working on are the result of boredom whilst on holidays, one of them is reasonable and the other is 'just cause'! This one is an Accessory, Ignition and start switch panel with LED back lighting and Status LED's for ignition and accessories. It will fit in the centre console just behind the gear stick with relays located underneath the dash to switch the original wires. And this is a VR dashboard, and this is just 'cause i can' sort of thing. It has turned into something quiet complicated as well the dash is for a V6 not a 4 cylinder, the speed sensor needs to be electronic, the temp sensor is the easiest (just plug and play) and the hardest of all is the Fuel level sender. The fuel level resistance difference between a VR and a corolla is that it is inverted on the VR and of higher resistance, Guageworks say they can recalibrate the system for 90 bucks but i reckon i can design some electronics to do it for me. Also i'm using this dash cause it has no CAN connections and it's quiet simple. (this is at the cutting edge of complete boredom, and being pov). If people are interested in this conversion I will do a write up, AND it doesn't have to be a commodore dash, just one without CAN connections as it is much simpler to convert.
  6. Hmmm...i might drive over and steel that shell, looks heaps straight......really jealous.....Engine bay looks tired though but in time it will look good.
  7. Is air bubbles in the radiator another one or?
  8. Man that's a good price, i picked mine up for 400 and the only thing wrong with it was the exhaust gasket was leaking, 8 bucks later all fixed. Rapid ticking most probable cause is flat battery or stuffed solenoid
  9. Try knocking on the side of the ignition switch and see if that does anything, according to the diagram the radio wire (if that's what shorted out) goes straight through the ignition. Sounds far fetched and quiet stupid but the extra current could of done something to the igntion to make it work for a little while. Make sure the plastic cover is off when you knock it.
  10. Ah thanks...re-read the knowledge base...and yeah
  11. Alot more work involved upgrading from a 3/4k to a 2tc, 2tc is a little bigger than 5k and are twincam, not sure if it's worth it. Someone else will be more helpful...
  12. 5k's sell really quickly cause they are a direct bolt in from 3/4k's, instant upgrade. And same with 5 speeds they sell really quick, 4 speeds do aswell but not as popular.

  14. Put the 4k/auto into the missus car, and whack a 5k in yours when i rebuilt my 3k and converted it to a manual i wished afterwards that i put a 5k in with a 5 speed.
  15. You can try that but didn't you say both sides are acting different, cause the lights are hooked up in parallel in the harness. Yeah when i used to drive to work i'd leave when it was dark then get to work when it was light, so totally forget about the lights ;) You can even buy a little automatic system from jaycar pretty cheap, been bored lately so might do that :laff:
  16. Just a couple of ideas has the dash lost an earth or a power feed, the regulator is charging correctly but is the w/l output working correctly? One big problem is that there are about 6 diagrams in the Gregory's manual and some of the dash wiring is different, on my car the H/Brake and Charging w/l's have a power feed and are switched to earth other's may be different. With the Engine running check that there is an earth feed coming out of the alternator on the Yellow/white wire, With a test light not a multimeter
  17. Just had a look at mine and it seems to have a relay for parkers and low beam on the drivers side, so it's different to yours. I'd need to have a look at yours to see whats going on.
  18. i'm on uni holidays at the moment so i'm free after 12 or when ever i wake up, i'll look at mine tomorrow cause i'm looking at making mine ignition fed so the battery doesn't die due to my incompetance, anywayz i'll post what i find and if you need any more help i'll come down.
  19. yep, and from the diagram i think that half of that relay is for the parklight circuit which is earthed through the the light switch, then (I think) when you put low beam on the light switch connects the RW and GW together to turn on the low beam. Then stuff happens to switch between low and high! need to test the relay to see which pins are coils and what are contacts.
  20. Have you done something with the harness, i mean has it ever worked properly?
  21. yeah i was about to delete that last post cause was looking at the right diagram and am now confused to say that it might switch earth at the stalk......will look at my 35 tomorrow at see if it's the same
  22. If an earth terminal lights up in typically means that its lost earth, if you've got a mulimeter check the resistance between the earth terminal of both sides back to the battery terminal. Should come up as 0 Ohms, when the lights are switched on.......i think.
  23. The same mate, his dad had the 2.8 and it was gutless compared to the turbo, and yes a diesel rebuild is expensive but you do it way later than petrol. I had a 3.0L V6 pajero that went everywhere and had torque where i wanted it and overall it was great but needed a head rebuild at 300k, my mates hi-lux is still going really strong after 370k.
  24. lpg will be terrible for off road, diesel all the way, my mate had a 2.6 (i think) turbo and it was awesome. Great on fuel aswell.
  25. Yeah I've decided after 2 days of driving, even at night it doesn't look right. It feels alot better cause of the little thumby bits makes it feel a bit sportier but it just doesn't look right and I don't have the original compliance papers so I'm worried a cop will defect me. And I've run out of cash so i'll probably be selling the Isotta wheel soon.
