Hey all, I believe I have compressed springs in my parts car KE70 as they don't appear cut at either end, yet the car sits lower and the springs move around a bit when the suspension is at full travel. Are compressed springs considered as dodgy as chopped springs? The only way I can see them falling out is if I launched the car off/over something so in that sense I under stand they'd be safe... But the spring rates would be shot wouldn't they? I'd prefer to have purposely built lowered sports springs but if it means I can save $200 this way then why not? Just curious as to peoples thoughts on this. Heres some pics that I took when initially confused as to the height. I originally thought they were chopped but from looking closer I couldn't tell ;) So I assumed they were compressed as they don't appear aftermarket (based on colour anyway...). Was some shit on the lens so its a bit blurry at the top. Looking up - captive? naaaah! This only happened when I physically jiggled them about though.

Those T28's are plain bearing aren't they? Eitherway, should suit the 4AGTE pretty well... might be a little bit... interesting... on a 1.6 :D What're you doing with the other one? Shaaaaaaaaaaane, buy it :)

Most factory turbo motors have oil squirters I believe... 3SGTE, RBs (bar the 30?), JZ engines etc. Could be wrong however! I remeber reading about some an SR20DE+T in a magazine a while ago, and it was much nicer to drive because of the high comp ratio and pulled an easy 200rwkw with a fair bit of torque! I'll try dig up the article, no idea what mag it was in though :D

Aftermarket sun roof FTW! Believe thats why people buy certain S15's... for track use the sunroof allows helmet clearance :D

I think that black corolla coupe is for sale in today's paper, $2800 or so. Can copy the add if anyone is interested. I think the springs are ok at the top, dunno why the coating has come off though. They still finish like normal coil springs do, with the slightly flattened bit. If that makes much sense :P

That's all good and all shane... but last time I checked I didn't have a two post hoist! and jacking it up would have the same effect anywho? And last, its mine... back off! :P

Ok... I'm a bit confused. Whats a sure-fire way of seeing if springs are chopped without taking them out of the strut? :P Just finally got round to having a look at the ones in the Pig and I can't tell. They don't seem to be that captive when at full travel. (Could be overdoing it as its jacked up...?) SR20's don't like to stay too long at/near the redline due to their lifters in factory form do they?

I wouldn't have thought that the case, especially in a race car scenario. I don't know the dangers of lightening the original flywheel but I'm sure you could always take one to a shop and get them to suss it out. Failing that, I can't see why it wouldn't be possible to get one made from billet aluminium if you supplied them a flywheel to base it off... can't say I know how much this would cost though but can't hurt to get a quote.

Already got a locked centre in Lenny's car, and hopefully by then that'll be what I'm driving... But will only have it in for the event if I am using that car. Lockers on the street are f@$ken queer!

That was also on a 1.6 wasn't it? Won't you eventually be running a 1.8 bottom end? I reckon talk to some of the CA18DET boys and see what setups they run, for good response and power.

Well 12a is not mine... there was some confusion between the seller and his housemate and the motor was sold to a person they thought was me... but wasn't! :D Ah wells, oportunities come and go!

What sort of setup you thinking of running Adam? In terms of respone, out right power etc?

I know of a 20v up here with a microtech for sale. PM me if you want to know more. Although 20V's aren't the easiest motors to setup for RWD.
