Hi all, I have a 1981 KE70 and need to know what gearbox oil to use (it has a 4k engine with a 5 speed manual trans). I have done quite a bit of research in the forum, but I need to be sure Is it 80W90 or 75W80 or something else? Any other variable to worry about when choosing the oil? Thanks! Looking forward to your answers

Hi all, I have recently bought a 1979 KE55 corolla, it has recently been changed to a 5 speed manual (K50) from a 3sp auto (K40?) and since then the speedometer/odemeter does not work. It has the speedo cable but is missing the speedometer drive gear and key/ball in the gearbox. It is running the same diff but I'm unsure of ratio. I've think I've found the necessary parts list for transmission: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_G_1979_TOYOTA_COROLLA_KE55R-EMRQ_3304.html and http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_G_1979_TOYOTA_COROLLA_KE55R-EMRQ_3305.html If anyone could shed a light, I don't really care if it's a little bit out as long as it works. cheers for reading!

Hi all, I have two issues with my 87 Toyota Corolla "Ke74" that I am fairly certain are drivetrain related. This is a T40 gearbox. When I bought the car 6 months ago the seller told me the clutch had recently been replaced with a new heavy duty unit. Firstly: In 4th gear, there is a rattling sound under load, ie, accelerating up hills, or decelerating downhill (no accelerator). The sound stops when the clutch is depressed even slightly. Secondly: When shifting on a bumpy road, the bumps can be felt within the transmission. It is like the the internals of the transmission are moving, blocking me from shifting into gear. This one really has me scratching my head. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I've got a 4age 16v smallport FWD with a gearbox that is on it's way out. I've found a 20v gearbox for a decent price and was wondering if they will bolt straight on to the 16v and also if the splines on the main shaft will fit properly too. Some people say they do and some say they don't so I don't know who to believe. Any help will be appreciated :-)

Hi, I am currently putting a 1uz into my ke70, but I'm stuck with my gearbox choice. Motor will be fairly standard, maybe just an exhaust and tune. It's going to be a cruiser with maybe a little bit of track work if the opportunity arises. Any ideas? Manual, auto, price, strength? All ideas and opinions appreciated. Cheers

Hey guys, I have made a rookie mistake (I think) by putting gearbox oil in a T50 before installing it on the car. The oil ended up spewing out of the driveshaft end and made a nice puddle on the floor. Is this supposed to happen? I assume the driveshaft yoke might stop this from happening when installed on the car or maybe a seal is gone. This is my first engine conversion so any advice is appreciated! Thanks

Yo I want to run an original k40 box with the long gear lever in my wagon. Not a fan of the k55 box position. I've got a box lined up as a donor. But I'm thinking of trying to swap the k40 extension onto the back of my k50. Looks like it could work, anyone ver swapped them around? I'm guessing the shift rod might give me grief and I'll need to pull the box open.

Hi all, I have a 1979 ke55 corolla sedan with a 4k motor. My clutch recently burnt out, at the worst time (330am whilst heading into town to pick up the missus), anyways I have a clutch on the way and I have no idea how to change it out, I managed to order a gregory manual for the ke55 to come with the clutch kit, just seeing if I could get some help and advice from here. Like what tools will I need, what fluids should I buy before I start etc. Also if people have good knowledge of how to do it, a step by step guide would be awesome! Cheers people, looking forward to the help
