Coilovers Or New Struts And Lowered Springs?
BlueKsev replied to 89sedan's topic in AExx Corolla Discussion
I got 4 way adjustable KYB AGX shocks + a coilover sleeve kit for about $500.... I don't like adding up the money i throw at this thing haha. -
Ohhh, the drift pig term has nothing on a 'Lowlux'. Those people piss me off so much! Its not called a hi-lux because its a decent hight off the ground, they're bragging about the luxuries. Half the lads who call their ute a lowlux have hardly even lowered them anyway! All they've done it put patches of primer everywhere, put some brand logo stencil over the top of that, and stuck some more brand name stickers on the window. Plus they never seem to get them all one colour anyway. Don't even get me started on Holden 'Lowdeo's...........

This lad is so loose ay, hes off the rails. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOOA2ZhBIQY&sns=fb&fb_source=message Also thought i'd share this te51 with everyone too :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nidQqwN7Xxc&feature=related

Na online... saved a lot of money over buying them in the shops, but its a lot worse if something like this happen. And the gland nut is okay, it mainly just needs machining on the bit below the thread, there will be plenty of meat left in it anyway. It looks like i will be able to make them fit so far though
-
Ahhhhhh yeah at the bottom of the strut there's a perch type thing for it to sit on. I thought about grinding it off, and getting my dad to machine the gland nuts so the shock sits up in them better and then i think they might justtt squeeze in.. I decided against it because the shock would have no strengthening at the base but i guess its not going to do much is it. I'll measure it up accurately and see if i can make it fit. And no, the sw20 gland nuts are much coarser thread but yeah i'll have a look. Cheers

Yeah the xt130's have different brakes etc too, i have everything i need to bolt them up though. Not sure what i'm going to do yet, if you want to buy them for $250 what i paid please do. 4 way adjustable :) 4 is rock solid too haha i was playing around with them here
-
Yeah i bought the rears. I heard a lot of people using rears. Yeah they are the same length as ae86 as far as i know, and yeah i wish i had of waited til i got the shocks but i wanted it done soon and i was so sure because i'd heard of everyone else doing the same thing... can't take them back either, bought them online. I think the stroke is too short if you don't put the spacers in. That, and if the strut was any shorter i would have troubles with the sleeve kit sticking out the top and i wouldnt be able to get the gland nut on. I can either cut up a pair of t18 struts i have, to the right length, or i can cut and weld some tubing back into the xt130 struts. No exactly liking the idea of two welds though... Thoughts??
-
Yeah they slide right down nicely, and i measured it as accurately as i could too. I just found the original shocks form the xt130, measured them and these sw20's are only 30mm shorter. And i have confirmed part numbers to make sure i have sw20 ones too
-
Okay so i think i might have figured it out... sw20 front and rear inserts have a different cartridge length, and i have bought shocks from the wrong end
-
I'm doing a coilover conversion so i've got my xt130 struts, cut the spring perch off, cut 40mm of the tube out and welded it back together. I had planned to put a 20mm spacer in the bottom of the strut like everyone else does/ says. I have bought sw20 KYB AGX shocks, slid them into the strut to find that they sit right up high, about 3mm out of the strut itself meaning i can't get the gland nuts on >| The cartridge length of the shock is exactly 360mm, like what it says it should be in the coilover articles on here. What have i done wrong????????
-
I did the same 4k-c to 4ac conversion from an ae71 at the tip too hahaha. Big difference isn't there? Good looking car too! Good job matching the new front end too, even the pinstripes haha. Also, where did you find your extractors??
-
I've heard stories of this Excel, just thought it was a myth but here on rollaclub lies the truth! Well done haha i love it. And about Carbonboy's post, i saw that ute when i was up your way on holiday!!! Couldn't believe it

I watched the original Crank the other day, its good :) but anything with Jason Stratham is good!

Spotted a ke35? pretty sure thats what they are, the coupe liftback sort of ke30's, on that main street between Moonah an Lenah valley. God it looked nice. Bright yellow sitting on challengers Also spotted me reppin quadlights on the ksev

I would go for a 14" wheel, 15's just look too big to me, but have a look on google at some pictures. And 7" wide is safe, 8" may need a bit of guard flaring As for lowering it, some people will put lowering blocks in the back, which spaces the leaf spring down, and pushes the diff up towards the car. But, the best way IMO would be to get the leafs reset, or flattened out a bit. Do a bit of research on google about that one too, it might cost a bit. For the front, some people cut the springs, some people buy proper lowering springs, or you can convert the front strut assembly to coilovers, which lets you adjust the height you want the car too.

Dunno why everyone hates on Sr's and Ca's. I would love to have either of them sitting under my bonnet! This car + Ca is going to be awesome

Ae92 Squeeling Front Wheels Under 40Kmh
BlueKsev replied to stabmaster's topic in AExx Corolla Discussion
I don't think the struts would do that, first thing i would go for is a bearing somewhere i think? But the fact its coming from both sides is strange -
Ahhhhh okay yeah i just checked on google, they look the same. Very nice little compact seat, i got one almost completely bolted up this morning and there's a heap more room, but it also makes me feel like i'm sitting in a Lotus or something haha. Cheers!
-
I know, i love them! Look like they should be found in the Back to the future Delorean. Its just the cracking and poorly maintained leather :glare: And as good as it would be, i can't get reupholstering or anything because of the price
-
Just wondering if anyone knows what these seats are out of?? Bought them off a mate for $50, proper leather, has TURBO stamped across the back of the seat but you can't see it in the pics, has heaps of adjustments for the front of the base, lower back, side flap bits etc Two of the bolts line up for the ke70, but shouldn't be hard to make some brackets to bolt it in. Their pretty worn though, through the grey coating over the leather and a lot of cracks leaving the leather exposed. Anyone know of something i can do to help them look a little better? I've heard try boot polish but i'm not so sure yet. Cheers
-
Oh if i hadn't already done mine id pay 20 to hire one, and i nearly did when a fella down here was doing it for the same price. You won't usually need them more then once and they aren't cheap to buy new
-
ooooh we'll see! mine was posted monday, not sure how long it will take but il get it in and working on the Ke struts first
-
Yeah that looks roughly the same height as mine, but that may change when i get these coilovers done  And i've also got an ajps lock spacer on its way too haha, i'll lat you know how it goes anyway man, but you may even have it done before me haha
