  1. mmm 20c coins i like that idea, i was trying to find something suitable to shove in there, but coudlnt find any decent sized washers... i shall definately give that a go!!
  2. haha damn i keep forgetting about them! well maybe when i get this thing back on the road again ill come for a drive out your way.
  3. right well bit of an update. i managed to get all this stuff on the weekend. though not without some dramas of course. drama 1: my brand new brake line and refurbed caliper do not seal, and fluid leaks out of where the line joins the caliper. so annoyed. will have to take it appart and prolly take the line back to where i got it, see if they can sort out whats going on. they did a dodgy job on my brake line, and said "she'll be right"....evidently not, so will have to take that back at some stage. drama 2: nasty rattle from left hand side, I'm fairly sure it is the shock inside the tube. ive done the gland nut up as tight as i can get it, but might have to wrap the shock in tape or something, the other side is fine, which is kinda annoying.... however there are some positives. took it for a test drive up around the block and it is much nicer to drive. the steering feel is MUCH nicer than that s13 gear, doesnt tend to tighten up as you turn more. the car also looks heaps better now that it doesnt have the rediculous front track.....so thats definately a pluss. hopefully can get it sorted soon, as currently I'm catchign the train/bus/ferry to work....not ideal:P
  4. not all of them though. just some. sweet looking car you got here mate, and i love the parts cars your picking up, cheapest way to get parts, if you have the room. you don't have a twinky steering wheel left by any chance? chasing one to buy. maybe shoot me a pm if you do:) keep up the good work on the 4age conversion!
  5. how about a more agricultural method. Litres between fuel lights. up untill recenetly i was a poor uni student, so i would pull into the servo running on fumes, fuel light had been glaring at me for a few kilometers. with the 4k, 10L used to get me 100km before the fuel light came on. so 10L/100km or so. i prolly could have gotten it better if i didnt floor it anywhere, but you kinda needed to floor it to get it to go anywhere:P with the 4age its about 130-140km for 10L, so getting down to around 7L/100. and thats driving fairly sedately, 4age has enough grunt to drive around under 50% throttle most of the time. (edit just realised it has "4ac" up there not "4age", oh well ill leave it there anyway..)
  6. very nice looking car mate, love the wheels, make them fit i say! i woudlnt worry about the hilux diff with a N/A 4age. just be gentle on the standard one, or even a T series. least a T series you can just get an LSD from a sprinter. hilux diff will add about 20% of the weight of your entire car! haha. ok not that bad, but they are HUUUUGGEEE and not required for a n/a 4age in such a light car. even the W box is a bit of an overkill for a n/a 4age.
  7. how about a pair of camber tops? he wants to adjust the camber, not just make it more negative longer LCAs wont help you adjust, it will just make more negative on both sides (unless you rosejoint like slw42 suggests, but thats a little extreme!) only problem you may find with camber tops and standard suspension is that the spring is quite large inside the suspension tower so you may not get that much adjustment. but i think youll get some.
  8. you sure about that? rear end maybe, both being IRS. but front end, the s13 is mcpherson strut, and r32 is double wishbone. also to OP, doubt just the springs will fit, best bet is to get some measurements. one must ask why?
  9. ah yes close, that last few times ive taken/put in a 4age ive wrapped packing straps (the ones with the metal ratchet, you use for trailers) around the block and through the intake/exhaust manifolds. not ideal, but it does give you the advantage of being able to monouver the engine around a fair bit when its in the air (or close to engine mounts) also to the ideas of using a bolt, your not really supposed to put any weight in shear on the threaded part of the bolt. but ive no doubt it works well anyway, since 4ages really arent that heavy to begin with.
  10. very straight looking car! as for the head, once you have the head off, drop it at your local machinist get it checked out. they'll pressure test it and prolly give it a skim. if your keen get them to take a bit more off, get some extra bang for your buck;)
  11. i like the black intercooler! any plans on brakes and suspension? to attempt to harness the POWA of the SR? having said that it must be fun to drive as it is.
  12. i remember lifting an engine using telecom rope once. casualty: one steering rack case.
  13. by far better he means, it will run like a peice of crap if you put the wrong sized injectors with the standard ecu:P
  14. car is looking sweet! this caliper talk reminds me when i accidently put my calipers on the wrong side, and thus upside down. was wondering why i couldnt get the damn things to bleed!
  15. I'm not able to get to youtube at work, but did see the pics. pretty intense machine, looks like the guy making it is pretty switched on. taz_rx: notice the "180 degree header for that ferarri sound, I didn't want that typical American V8 sound for this car." on page 2 i think. just spent a good chunk of my lunch break reading about this funky header design, pretty neat idea thats for sure.
  16. damn looking good matty. whats the sr-5 badge? isnt that an ae86 thing? or hilux?
  17. i know this is a pretty lame suggestion, as you seem to be well up on mechanics stuff. but you have ensured that your cam timing is correct? and also your ignition timing? sounds like you have the engine running remotely well on idle, so i suggest grabbing hold of your dizzy and spinning it around in all directions (don't take it out, so you are limited to movement) and seeing if you can get it to run better? its agricultural i know, but its a good test, see if anything changes. i had a simliar problem with my 4age, would idle great, but would fail with any throttle touch. also your engine will run with both the map and tps unplugged. it will go into a limp mode, run VERY rich, but it will run. so try that too. try only unplugging one or the other. (Map effects this much more than tps, with no TPS you will only notice a different with how the engine free revs, it will tend to take ages for the revs to come back down) my tps was stuffed when i got my 4age going, but it didnt give an ecu error. it was actually doing very similar symptoms as you describe (fine idel, fail at reving) only way i figured it out was by unplugging it and magically it wanted to run fine. i actually drove the car around with no tps for a while, waiting for a new one. don't be afraid to unplug sensors on the 4age for testing purposes, i had my engine running only with the dizzy/sparkplugs and injectors plugged in. the ecu is pretty crude and it will happily just supply injector pulses and spark with hardly any input!!:)
  18. but winter is the best for driving in cars without aircon! i didnt even see this thread, and I'm about...2months late.
  19. attack it with carby cleaner too, nothing like a good does of carby cleaner.
  20. i have a solution, we will all scrap our QWERTY keyboards, and get one of these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stenotype
  21. damn...i almost went to the megaweb too... ah well next time! the megaweb also has cool funky electric cars that you can drive around, just need an international license....
  22. well if you want uncut springs for wrc...just get standard ones? edit: i think your first post sais you can't find any standard ones, well i guess you might just need to get a someone to post you some or something. and if you want uncut higher rate springs, just buy kings or invest in a pair of ae86 struts/brakes, then you get bigger brakes and you have a huge selection of springs to choose from then. you could try fitting the commondore springs uncut into your ke70, might be far to long though.
  23. haha yeah no kes/86's to be seen... i saw 1 trueno 86 my entire trip, which was parked in a train station parking lot halfway between tokyo and mt fuji. was a tiny little town in the middle of the mountains. admitedly i didnt go looking for older/modified cars etc, but yeah i hardly saw any. saw 1 35 GTR, few 34gtrs and 2 32gtrs. this one 32gtr was driven by this old guy, reminded me of takumis dad (bunta?) off initial d:P haha was a beautiful gtr though, gun grey, completely standard.
  24. Cut springs in a mcpherson front end is dodgy mate! The rear is not so bad, as the cut end sits up inside the chassis and can't fall out. The commondore shocks will "go str8 in" the front if you cut them in half. when you start talking about fitting cut springs, pretty much any spring that is the same diameter will "fit" (~6") since they are cut, they wont ever fit properly anyway.
  25. exhaust leaks tend to be worst when you have your foot down, and when you jump off the throttle will be almost silent. best bet is to just turn engine on, and stick your hand around where you think the hole might be, and look for black soot coming out of the hole.
