  2. Length. (said the vicar to the duchess. :yes:) A decent length breaker bar will allow you to put more force on a stubborn bolt than a ratchet will. The one I linked to is 15" long, which should allow you to undo virtually anything on your car. A rachet is about 8" long, breaker bar twice as long: lots more force at the pivot= Lesley doesn't rupture herself undoing tight bolts. Hexs: If you look into a socket, most have twelve points inside to grip onto a bolt. 12point socket= multi hex. A six point socket has, you guess it, six sides, the same as a bolt, and grips firmer to the bolt. Pros and cons to each, I prefer multi hex for no valid reason. Long sockets are, as you presumed, just that. R

  4. Long sockets are good for.... errrrrrr..... well, lots of things that I can't put a finger on right now. However, I have a set, and they come in quite handy for.... errrrrr....... stuff. :) That's cool. Go the combo, however, can I make the suggestion that you get a 21, 22 and 23mm sockets in 1/2", and I'll guarantee that's about all you'll ever need. Can I also suggest at some stage the purchase of one of these puppies: http://www.kincrome.com.au/web/catalogue/s...tnumber=ZDA315C They're great for getting leverage on bolts that are done up "king" tight, and would also help a person (how can I put this diplomatically) like yourself who is of a "slight" build. :yes: I have one in my work box, and I can't live without it.   6. Hi Lesley, That one i the link isn't bad, although I'd probably like to see a 21,22, and even a 23mm socket in there, too.   7. Hi Lesley. I have a number of different tool sets. I was originally issued a Sidchrome tool set when I started at Ansett. Over the years that ha now mostly been replaced by Snap-on. I also have a fairly comprehesive Kincrome (yep, that how its actually spelt) set at Home, for car stuff. I'd go for Kincrome. It's good middle of the road stuff. It's well priced, good quality and fairly unbreakable. I've been more than happy with it in my workshop, and individual replacement bits are easily available when you lose bits. I now steer clear of Sidchrome after difficulties in warrantying a few items. Supatools is fine, but a little bit lower end for my liking. You don't need a Snap-on set. I use Snap-on as I use my work tools every day on aircraft. Things wear and they replace them no questions asked. However you pay for that privilege at the initial purchase. Hope this helps. :yes: R

  16. I use and recommend Pedders in both my road and rally cars. However, I only go to Pedders in Geebung, as the boys there are solid, and know there stuff.
  17. It's also because Toyota in their infinite wisdom seemed to change grille styles every three months. Earlies are interchangeable with earlies, lates with lates, although there may be a few exceptions.

  19. Yes, as are bonnets, as long as they're both around the same vintage. There are early and late ones. With minimal effeort, the guards can be converted from one to the other, however bonnets are different (early to late)...... yep..... that actually confuses me and I wrote it. In short, interchangable as long as the cars are about the same year. :)
  20. No. The window frame is different. I believe by about an inch. It would get awful windy and wet inside. :)
