  1. Google. Someone somewhere has probably done it. This is also not a conversion I can see you doing it in the near forseeable future. I think it's also been discussed elsewhere, hence I'm closing this thread.
  2. Fast, Cheap, Reliable. Pick two of the three.
  3. Ummmm.... You think far too much. :) I understand what you're saying, but is that a perfect world theory? Thinking about the fluid mechanics of it, the hard bit would be the inlet manifold, and to have a non-terbulent airflow. Hence I personally believe that you do lose a bit having to split the airflow, which realistically is what is happening. I keep thinking back to if air was water, and the turbulence created by alternate movement through runners. I'm also a rock ape who thinks two holes good, four holes better. :P Discuss. :D
  4. Just a friendly note for your friendly mods; as this forum goes all over the world, please type posts out in full, as people who don't have english as a first language, and anyone over the age of 21 has issues reading your posts. You keyboard has a full range of keys, and we ask kindly that you use them all. Ta. Rollaclub Mods.
  5. Su's are fine, however I don't think there was ever a manifold to suit a 2TG. The factory carbies were Solexs, similar to Webers, but not as good (IMHO). I really don't think SU's suit a 2TG application. You want at least a pair of 40 Webers, and if you're going for big grunt, 45's are even better. SU's only have one throat, therefore the flow divides into two on the way into the engine. Each weber has two throats. Ergo, two Webers, four throats. One for each hole in the head. :).
  6. I run T-series diffs in both cars, but I know people using the Mazdas. I'll make some inquiries. R
  7. For the first question, the words "have you done a google search yet" is my answer, because thats where your answer will be, without having to resort to asking that question here. Secondly, yes there is a way to test compresion. It's a guage available at most good automotive parts stores. Ask for a compression tester. It screws into your spark plug hole, turn the engine over a couple of times and Bob's a relative.
  8. Don't waste your time reinventing the wheel. Get a 2TG manifold, and a pair of Webers/ Dellortos. Solexs should be used as paper weights. The manifold wont fit, and there's a good chance the carbies wont, either. However without a picture, I can't definitively say. R
  9. Hmmmmm, doesn't look like one. You're right, K dizzys have the tang hanging off the bottom of the shaft for oil pump operation. No clues as to what that one is off though. R *edit*: looks a bit Datsun L motor-ish.
  10. We used to use Detroits in both the Hyundais and the Holdens. LSD's flog out too quick. If you do use an LSD you need it screwed up as tight as it will go. We found too that with the Holdens we had to use a pump to get all the oil out of the right head, otherwise it would starve. Not sure what they did with the Hyundai's, that was just before my time.
  11. The big turn off for me with a hilux is that there's a lot of mass flogging around under there. A real turn off for a forest car, hence the Mazda diffs which are smaller but still very strong. I also have some 14" mags to suit mazda pattern for sale, too. :)
  12. AAaaaahhhhhh....... Group B. When men were men, and trees were down right nervous. :)
  13. That whole place is out of control, isn't it? :)
  14. Been there, done that. :) The wheel change is a neat trick though.
  15. I understand Mammi to be quite good (Disclaimer; I live in QLD). I think Kangaroosa had his done there(???). I think they are rally boys, so they'll know about Webers/ Dellortos. Budget $2-300 for a start. It all depends on how far out they are and how many runs they have to do. Dyno time ain't cheap. Maybe one of the MEL boys can help on this one? R
  16. I've had SU's and Webers. Su's are good, however, realistically, once again you'll need a dyno trip to get the most out of them. Why do the Dellortos ned a rebuild? Why not have a quick dyno trip and see what you can get out of them? You won't find a 1.75 SU manifold. You'll get a 1.5" manifold and matchport it. You'll still get more grunt out of Dellortos than SU's. Cheers R
  17. Great little find. They weigh about the same as a can of coke. :y:
  18. There's a monster amount of ratios available for athe Mazda. Up to about 5.3 if memory serves. I have a T-series with 4.77's on a TRD LSD. The 4.77 are a commercial gear, and wont wear like the TRD variety. They're available through a place in NZ. I can track them down if interested.
  19. A dyno trip is your friend. Dellortos and webers really respond favourable to this. You can screw around with chokes and jetting, but until you know what's actually happening, you're shooting blind. Don't even think about putting a four barrel on. A well set up set of DHLA's will crap on it any day of the week.
  20. ..... and put a mark up on the price.
  21. Mazda E series diff is a popular one in the rally fraternity. Can get LSD's fairly easily, too. R
  22. Talking to an engineer would be a REALLY GOOD MOVE about now if you're serious about either of these conversions. The fact is, if you go to an engineer after you've done work and say, "well I read on the internet that I could do it", it's not going to cut it.
  23. Okay guys. I've had a couple of inquiries about his thread, and I agree with them. This is not a pissing-up-against-the-wall I've-done-286kph-in-the middle-of-the-night-in the 'burbs in a Honda Zot with a six pack between my legs thread. That would make your actions illegal. Going to jail illegal if anything bad happens, too. A couple of posts have gone to the great ethereal bin, and may I please ask that you keep it to the original topic (as most have done), we just don't need/want to hear how you did it. Cheers R
  24. Greetings from Mod land. This seems to be a cycle that the board seems to go through, and it generally seems to be at this time of the year. I don't post a lot these days (all these new fangled 37 valve "boosted" things don't do it for me), however I do still Mod quite a lot. I understand these gripes, however let it be known that on will not incur the wrath of a Mod (in a serious way) unless you don't take heed of often friendly advice (often by PM), or get abusive. Or both. Believe me that there is an awful lot going on that people don't see. There is 49 pages in the BIN that attests to that. Understand also that this is not an easy place to keep on an even keel, with a multitude of differing personalities to contend with. I'll freely admit that there are people in here that piss me right off. I have made it my position to let other Mods look after those people, so especially I for one don't end up going postal. On the whole, seeing what the mods are doing in here, I think you can be assured that on the whole, your Mods attept to run the place as fairly and ethically as practicable. Take into consideration that we also, at some time basically read EVERYTHING that is put on the forum. Spelling is one of my pet hates. Trawling through this forum they should be able to see what it is all about. It is clearly defined in the rules. The rules that one is meant to read before posting. I also think it's unfair to assume that this thread would be closed imediately. How are we to know how to fix a problem if we do not know about it? That said, if it turns into a bashing session, it will be locked, but if it stays constuctive, what's the harm? Remember, if you have an issue, a mod or admin is only a PM away. I for one am always happy to explain why I have done something. Back to you all. R
