  1. AE82 and AE86 are different
  2. Probably the rotor also. Was the motor previously running in this configuration, or did you stick some random distributor or cap onto it. You may quickly rack up the spending potentially unnecessarily.
  3. Confident it's out of an AE92 bigport TVIS engine when you are buying parts for the distributor in future. That's not going to affect what your starter is doing though. If the starter is smoking there is a problem with how it's wired, and it it's happened on a couple of starters including one you know is good, it's going to be a loom issue.
  4. Well you don’t have an AE86 distributor if that’s the right cap. Doesn’t mean anything though as could of been changed at anytime. What part number is on the distributor
  5. I notice the Motorsport Australia office has relocated to around the corner from our place in Canterbury. Only high end real estate for CAMS who previously were in Camberwell
  6. It was shared from the original face book post. Go to that starlet page
  7. There was a guy in the Netherlands selling a used U code LSD centre a couple of weeks ago. BUT he was asking €750 for it if it wasn’t so expensive I probably would have bought it myself
  8. New house is great, but have had to be pretty brutal with part stores. Sold a few things, thrown out a few things, and Peter Robinson came past with Ute and took a few other things away. Now crating up various spares and a huge amount of NOS stuff accumulated over the years for all three cars. I’ve always known what I had, problem was knowing where it was. Popped over to a mates today who has an amazing and varied collection including a fantastic AE86 Trueno, and near on 50 Honda cub bikes, and mini bikes. He is also cleaning out, so came home with another spare guard, another T50 and another fuel tank, having just thrown out 2. They will all get stored away somewhere.....
  9. Holden isn’t a surprise. They have been attempting to sell off the business quietly for some time. Perhaps they can return to Group A rather than the ‘supercar’ nonsense. Otherwise the Fords can race against each othe
  10. If you have access to decent octane fuel, 10:1 is a good compression ratio to aim for. Different markets had various compression ratios from standard so realistically you need to measure and work out what you have. Often the pistons will have the ratio cast into the piston crown. But you can’t assume the head has never been touched previously, although it may only have had a light skin previously. if you have a good machinist locally, they can probably advise you. don't go too far though. It’s no fun trying to drive around a car that pings evrytime you put it under load.
  11. Start off by checking the health of your engine with a compression test. That will determine whether everything else is worth doing now. If the compression test isn’t good, you will need to have a look at the bottom end. The motor I described above never had the bottom end touched. Then it would be port and polish the head with a shave to raise compression, camshaft of your choice ( err toward the milder range), extractors and a 1 3/4 inch exhaust. If you know a good machinist, get your flywheel lightened. Carbs are not hard, the accelerator linkage is the hardest bit. You don’t need to change to an electric fuel pump. The standard fuel pump is fine
  12. No I have never seen them. Only the KE20 style. Surprised the Thai guys haven't woken up to making them.
  13. What is a semi grout filled block?
  14. So we are in the new place as of yesterday, and the AE86 is the first to make it across today. Got an unregistered single use permit and drove across via the “most direct route”. Of course initially the car didn’t want to start, but some new 98 octane sorted that out. Then on a tentative initial excursion there was a bit of a rattle from the front right. Turned out the top nut on the damper insert was slightly loose. Then the drive across. Hella fun to drive after all this time! The other two will now need to come on a truck and then I can get things underway at last
  15. You can get one piece gaskets rather than the standard 2 piece which is a really good thing. They are called extractor gaskets, with numerous suppliers on ebay, but repco etc probably have them too
  16. If you mean the levin orange, I can get you the paint code in a few days
  17. The answer is give myself more space (it’s jammed down the side of my shed), wait till daylight, and flick them both down. Bit of a tap with the hammer and we are away
  18. All my manuals are in storage at present. Can someone remind me how to back off the rear drums on a KE1x, they are pretty seized I’ve got it up in the air with the wheel off and trying to flick the notched wheel on the cylinder through the two access holes in the backing plate? Flick it up or down?
  19. Has anyone used the rubbers from Phil’s in a KE1x or KE2x. Interested in fitment. I seem to recall that the RX3 springs are meant to fit in a KE2x so possibly the rubbers may fit. I’ve got some urethane ones I got from Japan, but unsure whether to use those or actual rubber. Have gone away from urethane everywhere else.
  20. Getting ready for our big move to the new three car garage (with attached house). Despite regularly popping out to talk to them all, I’m sure they were starting to doubt me. Reminds me I really should give them names. Here’s no.1 poking her nose out after seeing sunlight for the first time in a long time So a day of freeing up jammed calipers and the like. I did wonder why it was so hard to push, but then found this! It was fine when I last moved it about 3 yrs ago. In my defence, it was hidden up against the side fence. Not looking forward to moving my parts store, but am looking forward to a short blast in the AE86 on a temporary permit, and getting that on a club permit at last.
  21. Christ almighty! Well one needs to get into the Xmas spirit. What exactly are your plans!
  22. The 4AGE diagnostics manual is still hosted on AEU86.org along with other 4AGE manuals. The link is still working https://www.aeu86.org/technical/ae86-manuals/
  23. I was wondering if you were affected by the fires, but do realise NSW is a big place!j
