  1. something i'm planning on doing but still need to investigate further for my ke25.. is converting a ke30 engine crossmember into the car which requires the two front bolt holes slotted 5mm or so. this then theoretically gives me some extra width to play with when finding a suitable rack. the pivot points for the lower arms are wider with the ke30 crossmember. am doing custom engine mounts so the position of the crossmember is not so important in my case. also i can then use ke30 lower arms for a wider track or ke70 for 20mm less track (in total) which is probably nearer ke25 track anyways.. but will have the larger ke30/ke70/ae86/ta63 size ball joints to fit ae86 p/s steering arms to keep the lock nice and tight. feel free to investigate further on this anyone :D
  2. oh and yeah i read a Zoom article probably a couple years back.. a weak valve spring can indeed show up on a dyno plot as a flat spot in the mid range.. something to do with spring resonance i have exactly that.. so will be interesting to see the outcome of new springs 3tgte dyno graph with flat midrange.
  3. :D haha oh sorry i just had to... sr20 is a very popular engine for transplants so i'll have to disagree on that one as to the age of 3tgte's.. yeah its a problem alright.. you can expect to have the spark advance/retard diaphragm fail on you.. as well as the injectors, valve springs and turbo. most likely have a cracked and warped exhaust manifold too. but at least theres good availability of aftermarket parts to build a strong bottom end. (except the unique 3tgte big ends argg). 3tgte ct20 is larger than the starlet ct9 or whatever they are... it more comparable in size to the nissan/garrett t25 like in the old ca18det and rb20et. you'll ultimately get more power from a 3sgte and more parts available and it's a current engine so theres everything going for them.. but the 3tgte is still a sturdy power plant and a tricked up one is sure to put many late model engines to shame. the reasons i have one is that i do have access to engines and parts, it was an easy conversion into my toyota. because 1983 corolla + 1983 celica turbo engine just go hand in hand! anyways.. back onto topic i have set a new goal! the ct20 is going to see 13's before it gets junked :( last pb was 14.59sec.. with a 2.25 60' on std boost and no intercooler.. buggered std rear shocks and now i've found it had a broken diff link eye! which was probably the cause of the tramping off the line nearer the end of day. i want to get the 60' down to at least 2.0sec with the better suspension and grippier tyres. that should hopefully knock the time down to low 14's and the engine tweaks should get it into the 13's :) here's hoping! I'm still interested in other 3tgte drag stories :( cheers
  4. splashed out on some new wheels for the coupe :D 15x7 Konig Rewinds also picked up an '80 ke70 DX wagon for cheap which was certed for 4age but no running gear.. have got a 2tg to chuck in it for now
  5. these are ke2# delux badges.. i know that much but are they ke20 ke25 ke26 and what years do they suit? the smaller top ones i believe are later model '73-'74 ke20 4door, what bout the bottom, anyone know for sure? cheers
  6. any chance of a daylight pic of the front/side 1/4 of your 70 with the konig's on?????? yours looks nice as. i reckon they look very suited to the 70 and earlier rolla's hence i'm seriously looking to buy a set for my 70, they're not bad in price.. ive only seen em on ae86 so far please please please got any more pics? :)
  7. super effort going into this! much respect from across the ditch
  8. I'm curious as to what driveline your running in it? supra turbo box is the R154 I'm guessing.. but what about diff? struts.. brakes etc also how smooth is the engine when it comes on boost etc.. hellish to drive? would love an in car vid! i'll host it online if you can msn or email it to me!! cheers
  9. oh fark i just jizzed my undies that thing is insane!! i call for action VIDS!!!! :)
  10. nice project ya got there :) keep us updated! i've done ke70 3tgte myself but no way as clean as yours heh ps: Konig Rewinds 15x7 look nice on old rolla's
  11. if you like to see 3t powered cars and with turbo's etc http://www.toyota3tc.com forums are a great place! going back in time here... there is is factory efi 3teu, which the manifold will bolt to a 3tc, but good luck finding one.. and a 2tg or 2tgeu manifold has different bolt pattern to 2t/3t pushrods.. you could make it fit with an adapter or cut/swap/weld the flange. and 3tgteu are totally different heres proof
  12. digging up old posts... looks like johnnys te27 from malaysia.. he was emailing me about the 4age conversion a few years ago did anyone recognise the 1970 E2 sprinter bonnet on the silver ke20 shaped rolla? has the peak in the middle and a slight ridge down the centre similar to ke10's and the recesses under the heater vents = RARE!
  13. yeap.. was one of the original members. car was a p.o.s back then tho. http://www.toycrazy.net/mark/pics/ke70taupo.jpg
  14. lol i've heard of that place before, aussie island... thats where the poms dropped all their crims wasnt it? :lolcry:
  15. Name: Mark Car: '83 KE70 SR Coupe Motor & Driveline: 3TGTE, W55, 7.5" F295 Kaaz lsd, 4puk Suspension & Brakes: ma45 struts 10" disks all round Wheels & Tyres: 15x7 mesh Interior: racepro buckets Body: matt black, '83 trueno tails Other: the ke70 running gear completly replaced with jdm te71 efi gears and the 3tgt went in later more comprehensive parts listing here http://www.toycrazy.net/mark/ke70spec.html
  16. haha yes can definately get more than 12psi with a 3tgt ct20 i currently do and all ive done is a 2.5" exhaust.. the wastegate is pretty small and i'd say is the cause of my boost creep. I'm running factory boost which shows 0.6bar on my gauge and creeps up to 0.9bar which is around 13psi at 6500 previously i had the 3tgte dyno'd with a std te71 1.7/8" exhaust and a bleed valve running 10.6psi, it had a very rich 10.1:1 air/fuel and showed 118rwkw or 160rwhp. compression on that engine was a consistant 117psi. there was a rather large dip in the midrange torque which may suggest weak valve springs? my 2nd engine has an extra 10psi compression on all four, now running a 2.5" exhaust, bov and pod filter. finally with a new 4 puck ive been able to run some consistant passes down the strip. pb being a 14.59@153km/h and will run 14.7 all day long. should i lower my diff ratio from the 3.9:1 i may improve on that! very interested to see what others have achieved with their 3tgt's!! cheers
  17. wanting to know from anyone running a 3tgte... what times have you run down the strip what power have you dyno'd it at what mods have been done to get your time or output?
  18. not original by any means and old and heavy but... 3tgte ke70 .. just ran a 14.59@153k mods are 2.5" exhaust, pod filter and a plumb back vr4 bov (std boost that creeps to 13psi). not bad for a stock turbo engine without an intercooler how bout an FJ20ET if you can find one heh heh
  19. yeah we went but got there half hour after scrutineering so missed out on entering.. spent the morning at drury getting tyred up doh! but tup and i went the weekend after to a GM drag meet with club-k.. tup ran a 14.2 in the 1jzgte gx71 cressida and i did a 14.5 with the 3tgte ke70 coupe. pity we couldnt have unleashed them on the hondahs :lolcry: -mark
  20. mike you used to own an aw11 yeah?
  21. do you guys get many jdm A6# series celica, carina or celica/supra or *T14# corona? the jdm GT spec on all of these had F series lsd as an option although being IRS. the internals of the F series irs swap into a live axle head. i have also done this on the G series as i found an MX73 markII with G315 irs lsd and swapped into a dead hilux lsd head. the std F lsd are usually worn by now but can be rebuilt. toyota still sell replacement clutches etc (well nz do anyway) to rebuild em. the G series lsd i had my local diff shop look at.. he surface ground the teflon lining off the clutches, installed a stiffer spring and shimmed it up to get correct preload and its nice n tight! same thing for F series if you don't want to rebuild by factory methods. TRD still sell new lsd for T F and G diffs. but yeah kaaz and cusco etc are good if you can afford. jdm liteace 4wd often have F series live axle too. the *R20 series are a lil shorter than the *R3# but if your shortening then the longer the better. ive found the 5x6"(?) stud pattern have the same size locating ring (spigot) in the centre as rwd corolla's whereas the 5x4.5" /114.3 have a larger one so can't fit factory corolla rims. also watch for the diff vent being on the exhaust side as they often get knocked off. another one is the estima/emina or previa, maybe called tarago in Aus, jdm ones anyways come with F series live axle. a drum one i saw had a tapered housing so you wouldnt be able to shorten it. the disk version ive yet to check out... but drums and disks on F and G series diff are F'n huge for a rolla. an interesting find was when lookin through the jap trd website, i noticed altezza have same lsd part number as A6# celica carina etc. so went a bought a second hand altezza torsen lsd and sure enough the F series axles fit, crown wheel swaps over and the torsen carrier fits in the live axle F series head. thats as far as ive got on it tho. the pinion gear looks like it might just scrape the torsen housing so a little tweak on the lathe may be required.. but anyways some more options for ya. :) T series are good for most rwd rolla unless going boosted option. lockers will break T series axles with decent tyres, i got two to proove it, and one of em was on a std 2tgeu in the wet ffs :D
  22. just make sure you have mandrel bent primaries. press bent ones look smaller than factory runners, it be more fun tying em to the towbar
  23. interested in this as well. will be doing it to 4agte ke25 once a rack is found. a ke70 was roughly 600mm between inner rack ends/pivots. kp61 starlet about 20mm shorter. but a ke25 is more like 500 on the std drag link :D i believe the rack needs to be a lil shorter than the crossmember lower arm pivots to account for the ackerman angle on the steering arms. you'll notice the tie rod hole is not dead in line with the ball joint, but rather sticks in a bit so the inside wheel turns harder than outside when cornering. i was emailed from a guy in aus who said he'd shortened a subaru justy rack to fit. anyone measured one of them? not that i'd like to use non toyota parts :)
  24. ok top plate in front of r/h strut, bottom plate on firewall (the nz plate)
  25. i can definately help on this one. is it still going ahead?
