no split rims still come out on some 4x4's, they were made to be easier to change on the go. the ones that have been banned/not supposed to have are called suicide rims. they basically live up to their name too, where instead of having a normal lock ring, the whole top half of the rim is the lock ring....we arent allowed to do them anymore, and with good reason.

oh not cool reedo. alot of you may not undestand what I'm talking about....but what is grinding my gears at the moment is bloody farmers bringing in grater split rims that were old when the titanic sank, and expect us to be able to find and fit tyres to them with buckled lock rings and the paint holding the rust together....shits not going to end well

ok thought i might kick this thread in the guts charlie and get her moving again. i have a ksev that i can use as a test dummy now so i will be hitting sticker steve up to make me a demo one. i think the way he is going to work out sizes is make it just shy of the distance between the front and rear wheel arches. if anyone was still keen let me know the measurements between front and real wheel arches in line with the bottom of the doors and we can start making some

yeah, its mainly the yuppies that buy el cheapo lock nuts to put on their mags that are recessed into the wheel :/ shit gets interesting then

oh the thread isnt really a problem, its the design shape of the lock nut itself, and the lock nut key. they have a tendancy to strip out and go pear shaped. do you know what shape the lock nut key that you want to buy is? or the pattern of the lock nut?

what exactly do you mean jono? do you mean the flange on the base of the nut? if thats the case i have never heard of there being different types, except for what they call a 'lug' nut, which actually has a tubular base that fits inside the stud holes of the wheel. or if you try to use nuts designed for steel wheels on an alloy rim. the other way around doesnt really make much difference......also let me know which type of lock nut you want to get so i can steer you clear of the ones not to use........and yes, being a tyre fitter i have had to remove way too many ;)
