I'm driving home today in the Camry, and I suddenly notice it's getting pretty hard to change gears. Then I notice that the clutch pedal doesn't come back up anymore. That's strange. Hey look, even with the clutch pedal in the clutch is still engaged. Umm...

 

Anyway, left it in 3rd and just managed to get home, slip the car back into neutral (can't get it into any other gear), cut engine. Had a look underneath, no clutch fluid. Hmm. Popped the bonnet, looked around, can't really see any leaks. Looked in the clutch reservoir, it's a bit low. Topped it up. Pulled the clutch pedal back up and pressed it again, hey it still doesn't come back up?

 

Had a look at the clutch cylinder again, and it's like, fully extended. So pushed the plunger back in (clutch fluid now leaking out, maybe it was over extended), how come the clutch fork doesn't come back? Clutch problem? Wiggled the clutch fork, gee it's light, doesn't feel like it's pushing anything at all. Tried to pry off the rubber boot so I could have a peek inside, and half the clutch fork came out!!!

 

WTF??? I must be really talented or something to break a clutch fork... ARGH.

 

I have spare engine and gearbox (and so spare clutch fork), but have no time to replace fork for next week or two. I have no other means of transport. This sucks.

 

Anyone want to buy a Camry? ;)

a few red lights were run in my corolla the other day. after changing clutch master cylinders we realised that the fitting thread was different and had to drive 3 suburbs without a clutch.

I wonder how drivable the car is without a clutch. I know for a fact I can't get it into reverse gear from neutral with the engine running. My car is facing my house at the moment so I'm not game to try to engage first with the engine running. But I know that changing from 1st to 2nd to 3rd without the clutch was really bloody difficult, and made a lot of noise ;)

I lost clutch 1 day so i just started the car in 2nd, It roll started itself so i drove it a few hundred meters to my mates workshop.

Some days I read your posts Fook and I think, " My god, sucks to be you," becauase I have been there.

I need to be at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday and Monday, and at the Gold Coast on Tuesday. I don't think I can drive my clutchless Camry that far... ;) HALP!

Maybe put the camry plates on the race rolla. lol. ;)

Happened to me in my old escort. Stopped to turn right across traffic, pushed clutch in and it stalled, started it and it lurched forward wtf?, Tried again to start with the good old heal and toe in the main street, spinning the rears (wet road) and on the brakes waiting for a break in traffic. Tried to go and it spat me sideways onto other side of road and stalled again but this time it wouldn't start, then some dude run the orange light and couldn't pull up in time.

 

Was my first car and on my P's I had no idea what was going on, I had just bent the fork? got another one same thing happened but no crash. So I got a new on from Ford and it was the last one in the system, what a shit box, next car was a rolla and never had a problem till it got stolen ;)

 

Still sucks but man, Definitely go a new one or try reinforcing it through the weak area

AHAH fook nasty. MMM will you attempt to put your spare clutch fork in the gear box to get it on the road?

 

Also the starter should crank the car safely. So remove all the spark plugs and put it in first and move the car on the starter. I have done this worked fine no damage done.

its actually not THAT hard to drive without a clutch. you just need to learn to rev-match.

One school holidays, my old man pranged a motorbike and broke his left ankle. The fact we were in Bedourie meant we had to drive to Charleville to get it set (the nearest doctor). He did it with no use of the clutch. It was a pretty top effort, in the Land Cruiser. Something like 6 or 7 hundred highway and dirt klms.
