Spark Plug Tubes Anodized :0
camerondownunder88 replied to camerondownunder88's topic in General Mechanical
HAHAH thanks. Looks good yes. I didnt polish them before dipping so I can get a better finish yet ;) Also rwd-starlet I use lead because I can melt it down fast make my own shape to suit the acid bath with it and it is plentiful. Now aluminium or Titanium is the best metal to use actually. BUT the aluminum MUST BE 6000 series aluminum for best results. Other aluminum eg 2000 series (most common) will turn the bath black but can be used jsut dopnt stir the bath to much. But 6000 series can be hard to get it is silicon and magnesium based metal with 0.6% silicon and 1.0% magnesium in it (also has 0.25% copper and 0.25 chromium added) it is good for corrosion resistance has good weldability and malleability and is easily heat treadted. Also to anodize you need the bath to be stirred. Old fish tank pump works best for this blow air thought the bath. Now for the hard part. After 22 degrees C the pour in the aluminum anodizing layer get smaller and close up making coloring harder. SO while anodizing keep it BELOW 22 degrees. Sounds easy WRONG......Watts= Current X Volts. I pump over 60 amps I have measured (limit of my gauge) at 15 volts. that means 900Watts is being pumped into the bath. That turns the aluminum part into a heater. The bath gets HOT. So I find using a bigger tub adn filling it with ice/water/dry ice works best to keep temps down. Also good luck to anyone who tried this to get nitric acid in good strength. That stuff is the main ingredient in TN.. I mean fertliser. Which also goes bang good. So there are laws against it. It only is used to remove "smut" in the dipping process. Not necessary but for a nice finish you will need it. In about a strength higher than 70% pure Also there is a law auto shops and battery shops can't sell battery acid to the public some place will sell it still others are to good. So also this acid will be hard to get. Cheers Cameron -
Cam Instalation And Tappet Addjustment
camerondownunder88 replied to tas_ae71's topic in General Mechanical
The cam re grinder will tell you what specs to set tappets at. when I had mine reground he said to use the same he ground it to those hot clearance spces. Also if in doubt also ask the cam gringder all those questions he will answer them for you to. Also on the torque I would torque them borrow a torque wrench if possible. alloy heads can get thread damage easy if you over torque stuff. Cameron -
Spark Plug Tubes Anodized :0
camerondownunder88 replied to camerondownunder88's topic in General Mechanical
rwd-starlet I anodize stuff by making up a simple bath of sulphuric acid as I do type 2 anodizing. And pass a large amount of current through it with a lead plate on the cathode side of the power supply and the part of aluminium is the anode. philbey That article you have on using abattery charger I would like to see that if you have it still. I have tried a charger and got BAD results  can't recoment it. Best thing you can use at home is a car battery. pozman On the car you can use spark plug leads that don't have the big rubber cover on the lead so you can see the tubes. But anodizing helps stop corrosion, Excellent abrasion resistant qualities, The anodic film forms part of the aluminium and cannot ‘flake, chip or peel", makes parts easier to paint (yes can anodize clear to do this), looks better, cheaper than other methods of finishing aluminium etc so even if you use standard spark plug leads there is altirea motives to doing this..LOL Also a picture below is of two tubes I have done sitting in aspare 4K head: I alos have obtained more new acid of a few differnt sorts so I can now do cast aluminium so hopeing to get all my water housing on my motor black now :) Cheers Cameron -
Starter Issues 5k Ke15
camerondownunder88 replied to camerondownunder88's topic in General Mechanical
Hi, Tojo I am using the stock KE15 flywheel and a NEW KE15 clutch adn clutch plate. A early gear box has different splines so I put this old style fly wheel on. When Installing it was all torqued properly and new spigot bearing installed and all aligned and it slid onto the gear box easy. So yes issues could happen here but clutch dis engages good is strong and doesn't seem to be causing issues. Also Alternator funny you say that I did turn motor by hand with plus in hard as hell and slow but to do this I disconnected the fan belt. So might give this a shot disconnecting the alt. Is original 1969 alt and could be dead but I mean looks new..LOL I will build all new earth wires for it tomorrow and by pass the ignition circuit straight to the starter and see what happens. Fingers crossed it is just an earth. Cheers Cameron -
Starter Issues 5k Ke15
camerondownunder88 replied to camerondownunder88's topic in General Mechanical
Hi, Well up dates :) Got to test battery again today. Pulled the battery out of dads torana put it in my KE15. It is the same make and model of the one I have in my KE15 so was a good one to test against. We cranked it. Spun slowly and dropped to 6V while cranking  But this battery can start a 6 cylinder rebuilt shaved head torana so we tried my KE15 battery in dads car. The battery was down from last nights cranking and I didn't charge it. It cranked my dads car no problems and dropped to 11V. So that rules out my battery. I think it will be the wires in the car. I have redone the +ve side from starter to battery so Ill do the earth side on the weekend. As when cranking I gout out negative wire to battery was hot my new 4 gauge +ve wire to battery not hot normal. So definatly a problem here. Also Sbox the motor I bought rebuilt and not run in for $30 this 5K. I put it in my KE30 and ran it in and all put a few KM on it as was doing 111km a day. The motor was in for 3 weeks. I ended up having cam shaft issues with it. The cam snapped and jammed on the front and advanced its self 15 degrees STILL RAN BUT..Lol So had great power from 2000RPM to 3000RPM after that motor struggled to run. I have now installed a new cam and push rods and lifters so that is all fixed now. But the cylinders that are down was hard to get out compression meter in those spark plug holes as out tester you hold down n the car. Hard to do that on a K motor with recessed spark plug holes and a dizzy in the way. SO there not accurate numbers on 2,3 cylinder and my mechanic testing the compression while it was in my KE30 and said all cylinders are OK so I mean I'm happy. As a K motor manual says that a stock K motor should be 170PSI cranking at 250 RPM mine yesterday lowest cylinder was this value so I am not worried about the CR. As for aero start no I never touch that crap either. -
I put my ass germs on this car the other night and tooted the horn and it made Trev daughter jump was funny..LOL So Jip has my seal of approval. I say original motor and white walls 100% stock nana speck :) Cameron

Starter Issues 5k Ke15
camerondownunder88 replied to camerondownunder88's topic in General Mechanical
Hi, This arvo got some testing done more. Got out the spark plugss again..LOL And did a compression test. Gauge was a cheap on near the dizzy was had for my dad to hold it in and get a good seal due to gauge design so there rough but close enopugh. Cyclinders: 1. 200 PSI 2. 190 PSI 3. 170 PSI 4. 200 PSI So not to bad and not really that high. When cranking the battery drops to 8.5 ~ 8.9 Volts my multi meter said. Didn't get time to clean up earth and redo it. I have left over 4gauge and more terminals so I will make a nice big earth lead ont eh weekend and see what goes down. But what is the average voltage of a battery when cranking? Cheers Cameron -

Hi, I have tried 3 dizzy's. Stock 5K electric one a adjustable KE1X one and a KE30 bosch one. Still wont crank. I have double checked dizzy timing heaps I know it is right at the oil pump aligns with the dot inside the block cylinder one is on the fire part of its stroke and cylinder 4 is on the rock. I know the dizzzy is in right. The motor with spark plugs in and dizzy out I have tried this wont crank still I didn't try this for long as the oil pump wont spin with dizzy out but motor only did half a turn so all was good. Oil pump I have checked I can freely turn it with a screw driver and it makes oil pressure so wont be that either. Cheers Cameron -

Winds over with socket yes. Umm haven't tried wire to bypass other igniton circuits so Ill try this see if I get some noise. Good feed back so far keep it up giving me ideas. Cameron -
80 that all..LOL Valve bounce my 3K hits 75..LOL well takes abit to get there but..LOL Was fuel economy testing today so I didn't try to keep up..LOL Got 5.7L used in 109.7KM thats good. And man I did see you rocket away that is one NICE car you have. I usually hear it before I see you and I always know its you..LOL Cameron

Yes I got a lot of earth wire here Ill earth the poo out of it tomorrow. But I tried using one jumper lead to the block still no go. And earths are 8 gauge wire so kinda big. But i will try that to give you feed back. Cameron -
Trev u know the local area well. Your house is a good meeting point central to High way for crusies. Your an active member list goes on. IF not Ill be RL but I suck at planning cruises Id plan them to the doogandan pub all the time so I don't think Ill be a good one. Cameron.

Hi, As you know I am currently working to get a KE15 on the road with a rebuilt 5K in it. Now this motor I bought rebuilt. Put in KE30 ran it pulled it out put it in the KE15. Now I am using a 0.8KW KE70 starter with more up right solenoid. I run pace maker extractors for a KE1X and twin carby KE15 intake with rebuilt carbies. Now initially I was cranking and dad said it has no spark. Dad couldn't see the spark.LOL But before I found this out I changed the dizzy, plugs, leads, did a bit of a tidy on the electrical wires, checked timing, made sure it was firing on the compression BANG stroke so it wouldn't back fire through carby etc. Went to crank it again. And it did like half a revolution and stopped :D So got the shits spent 2 arvos changing the starter to another new KE70 one I have NO DIFFERENCE. There is also nothing stuck in the bell housing I checked that while I was down there. I have also COPIED the original KE1X loom for the starter with 4 gauge cable and new terminals etc. The car runs a new battery also. And I tried hooking 2 batteries together so it can draw more amps at 12V using jumper leads bit more bang but still NO GO. Car will crank with spark plugs out no issues even fast enough to turn off the charge and oil light  Now I install the spark plugs pure methanol I have down both carbies and try to crank does about half a turn till it hits compression and goes I'm stopping. I did get 2 pops out of it once wen methanol lit so umm can anyone help have ideas on how to fix it or start it? I need help I'm out of ideas. Cheers Cameron

MM deleting the threads OK prob a bit hard But INSTANT lock down and do we use this warning system we all have at all? Can we use it more be more brutal with it really use some scare tacticts that should do the job. Also Fook I still talk to him etc Trev and he is a BUSY BUSY boy now and has kinda grown away from RC and posting every night here. I can name a few old members like this but wont that have slowed in posting but we all change so lets make Trev the new Ipswich RL..??? Cam

I say harder rules more public harassment and run it more like a brutal regime. Only way new people learn. But I must admit I joined used the search feature read rules and enjoyed it. I like the old RC and the now RC. I mean on some old members we love kinda grew away from RC raven but I mean we all move on etc at times I'm just happy we still have RC I like it. But yes thread was harsh. I think the server Ben might be able to confirm this is running slower maybe due to people using more bandwidth? So people are clicking more on post so we see 3. I say jsut delete thread and then leave one. I do like Reds moding of the sale section but. I mean do you post a trading post add and say car for sale $400 no you add a number of contact a location there basics you learn this in Primary school well I did. So no don't give people 24 hours LOCK it or delete the tread. I mean I hate opening an add seeing a good item no price no info don't mind no pics as some are big so better to PM etc But yeah no mercy I say but maybe keep the public abuse to a min just locking is good. Oh I also can't spell good so I know how he feels But I got a plug in for Firefox to help me so there is still no excuse for that well unless we for get to use the plug in..lol Cameron

SPOTTED again 4ages going down ippy motor way car park..heheh he got behind the slow moving mazda  Well I was to till the stupid slow moving other mazda and truck moved then we motored on. HEHE and I saw you shrug and that silva mazda had been doing 50 since Dinmore with no one in front of her AND was impossible to over take and she kept tapping her brake to scare me and I WASN'T TAIL GATING..lol AH ippy drives..lol Cameron

Now and then you see good SUB $800 4age motors out there for sale so budget say $1000 for the motor. I have given away working T50 gear boxes before so that is cheap. If you run carby on the 4a motor like webbers you will save the cost of the EFI loom etc so save there pending what carby you get..LOL Gear box install easy bolt it to the back of the motors and when you install the motor the gear box goes in also no lift required. Gear boxes look heavy are light I usually put it on my chest under car lift and slid it in by my self I find that easy. So just give it a shot. Its a rolla there hard to kill. Cameron

5k Problem Diagnosis
camerondownunder88 replied to Davros El Davros's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Hi, It is late so can't stay up to explain I get this similar noise in my 3K. Ill post up info I have in the morning. Oh I drive 500km a week in my KE30 with 3K and umm rattle hasnt hurt it yet (touch wood) so mmm just drive it if you can I guess. It is a K motor what can't they do apart from go fast stock..LOL Cameron -
Trev don't forget you mate Andrew. I use him for my towing a mate of Trevs. He uses a tipper and is always good. He got Des old KE10 for me at Beaudesert for me CHEAP and is flexible. But when ever he is busy I ring Trevs dad. But Andrew is good also. I have used only one commercial Tower before when I snapped my cam shaft in my 5K he seemed like a bit of a shady person he was more interested in trying to get me to tow it to his work shop to be fixed cheap instead of going about 1km around the corner to my place. Cameron. Oh P.S. since this is a wrecker thread wrecker near me on Warrick rd Yamanto 4305 near the woollies has some nice cars. He has 2 holding yards likes to keep things complete and then strip crud cars. He is also an importer. Bit on the dear side but he has one of those EP non-turbo corolla a corvet some 400cui chev ute shovel nose rona ke25 with stripes ke35 few KE70 some ke30 and 55 complete sedans and parts. So if people are interested go to him. I think there assholes but hey give them ago. He likes to hide and store rare cars. Like the old rona nice as and he has had a few corvets and that in so he is good on getting rare stuff.

SAY NO TO 4A...lol No it means time to get my KE15 sprinter going..lol For some reason I have no spark from it :D annoyed as like 2 weeks ago it had spark but no carbies on it..lOL WEIRD. Cameron

A new diff cost $140 man can score them free to $80 here in QLD. So I mean if you let him keep the money he got a cheap car can replace diff and have left over cash I mean he wont get anything out of you even if he tried something. Diff swap is EASY I managed to do one once with a scissor jack ann a few spanners. Was in a light KE10 but still he should be able to change it no worries and again have a good cheap car. What do you expect for a $500 car..lol Also did the diff make noise for you or anything when you went around the block? They usually give signs now not all the time but some times you know so he might of been flogging his new car thinking wow so cool a drifter ke70 and stuffed it now he can't face paying more money I think he is passing the blame so meh just let it pass.
-
HAHAH I ended up being just early got good traffic near airport..lol If you put your foot on the noise pedal man you would fly...lol Going up past the prison you flew up there I was in slow moving lane but the old 3K just doesn't have it anymore to rocket me up the hill..lol Cameron

^^ THAT WAS ME :) I like to make a fuss lucky I didnt use the horn :D I haven't spotted anyone for about 6 months. And that is actually my dirty 30 under cover 30. Has a resprayed front end sporting a KE55 bonnet and it is late model so has a ke55 interior. And I did see you wave. Was mashing the accelerator a bit today was thinking I would run late for work lol was playing on the KE15 this morning. But I spotted you at first at Goodna maccas. Tried catching up was hard work in that traffic..lol But knew the car from seeing it at Trevs a while back. Sounds good but :) Cameron
