  1. You should be able to find semi-sealed beams in various sizes at Supercheap and so on. Usually they're in boxes that look to be about 25 years old and dusty, but they'll look close enough to factory sealed beams to use. I bought a 4 inch one for my bike project, chopped it up and mounted it in a vintage tractor light casing. Modern high/low lighting in an old school case....
  2. Hi there mate, I have a similar concern with my 2 cars, although both are substantially older than yours (30+ and 40+ years). I've often wondered what the likely cause is. I suspect it could be a number of issues: - reduced current to the fan (probably not in your case) - fan bearings have deteriorated. - The fact that you can get it to loosen up leads me to suspect your fan housing has dusty rubbish built up inside. If you can pull the fan assy out yourself, I'd suggest you do that and have a look. Bearings will be evident if the fan doesn't spin freely by hand. Perhaps hook it directly to a battery to test. Give it a good clean and see how it runs. If you can get it out, then you can work out if you should buy a new item.
  3. They were a tight fit but not rubbing. I also noticed the inners rubbed slightly on the outers, spoke to the Crow guys and they said it's not a concern. Remember that the springs increase in diameter as they're compressed, so when a free length spring slightly rubs the retainer/outer spring, it may well be clear once you've fitted it. I've been running mine for over 12 months without problems.
  4. This just made me think of something; I am led to believe KE20 boxes run the same spline, but they are different length pitman arms. If you could get a corresponding KE20 idler arm, you might be on a winner. There is limited information on KE10-KE20 steering box swaps (I'm planning on doing one), I have a KE20 box at home I may be able to measure up this weekend. Also something to consider, the KE10 draglink is very close to the rear of the crossmember, are you likely to have a clash problem lengthening the arms?
  5. Nothing wrong with a good condition, well built steering box. It's once they're knackered, they're scary.
  6. Good to see someone else is doing this. I've mused over it for years but I'm lazy and much rather see how somebody else goes with it!
  7. Fantastic looking project here! Tell us more about the car, did you go looking for it to restore, or did you just happen to stumble across it? Welcome to the rollaclub, look forward to seeing more updates.
  8. First up, do the brakes pump up? Check fluid levels, top up and bleed all brakes. It's probably drums all round so you might get some results if you adjust them. Even if all the seals are worn, they should still pump up. It's usually bleeding and adjustment that cause them to not work at all.
  9. The worst thing is that replacing the welsh plug means you'll need to pull the head off. While it's off, get it welded up.
  10. Even with heat treatment, I'd be reluctant to do it. Better off (and likely cheaper) getting some machined up from scratch.
  11. You sure your fuel cap isn't dodgy? Every time I go round a corner it'll slosh out and fume up. Try get a new cap.
  12. Is it a new one, or old one? did you test it to see if it still drives (spin one end, other end turns?) Is it correct, I notice you have a conversion, perhaps the male connection at one of the ends doesn't actually engage the corresponding female connection?
  13. that's an internet pic. Most auto parts stores have them, there are cheap ones around for about 30 bucks. Even Supercrap have them I reckon.
  14. Tyres in hand. Wow. Very happy. They're nice and soft, and the tread detail is quite interesting. Plus they look sick! Pulled the fuchs off the 911 last night, I'll get the old tyres stripped and take the rims home for some polishing action and a new coat of satin black on the centres. Astute readers might notice the car in the background, with the door removed...
  15. I've not seen anyone on here fit or make one. I think the same question has been asked a couple of times though. Are you racing?

Chick drives it, I think she works at the belair.
  17. My money is down that it's either dead, or more likely some race-spec customiser pulled the thermostat out thinking it would improve performance Buy a new one, get a gasket while you're at it for the thermostat housing and swap.
  18. I used a rattle gun with a piece of bike tyres wrapped around the shaft. You can grab it nice and firm, the friction with the rubber is high and it prevents damage. Check 3rd photo here. rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?title=Lowering_KE1x_Front_using_KE2x_parts
  19. Breakdown of prices was: Tires $500 (to use the vernacular) Shipping $243 Wire transfer $25 I think that for tyres that would cost you less than $750 locally, you wouldn't import, because the $250 rate to ship is going to be a major cost.
  20. yerp. Just got the email to say nobody was there to collect, I'll get them tomorrow. No word from customs so apparently all is well. Total cost so far 743 + 25 for the wire transfer. Bank exchange rate was just over parity at 1.001.
  21. Are your points gapped correctly? Closed is fine, as long as they open at the right moment. Check all your wiring, a simple disconnection between coil and dizzy can stop you dead. I've had coils fail, sometimes they run badly for a long time, sometimes they just seem to fail outright.
  22. Recaro SR3 for 400 bucks? That's pretty damn cheap, you talking new or secondhand?
  23. Depends on the paint to start with. My wagon was in reasonable nick a few years back when I bought it, it'd had a respray in what I suspect is enamel. Over the last few years, keeping it shiny is futile; to get a shine, I need to give it a serious cut and polish (hand only, buffers in the hands of the unwary are a nightmare) and then I slap loads of wax. The paint seems to take an enormous amount of wax. Nowadays, I'm lucky to keep a sheen on the paint for more than a week, I've basically given up. The bonnet is almost impossible to keep a shine on it, it'll oxidise almost overnight. My old AE86 on the other hand had fantastic condition factory paintjob, the dark blue. I never cut that, I would simply wax it with Polyglaze Diamond Finish car wax, and that kept it in good condition. It was parked outdoors/carport for a couple of years and it stayed in good repair.
  24. UPDATE Tyres are in Australia according to Fedex. As of this morning they were en route to my house, but more than likely I get a calling card. Should have them in hand tomorrow.
  25. Near overrated. Lol. I'm sure it is. The best 'overrated' one I've seen in the flesh is Henry's (ke20me). I'd say it's worth substantially more than 5000. I doubt there's many, if any, unrestored KE10's in better nick than his in the country, and if I were chasing a minter, I'd be using his as a price benchmark. Immaculate original cars are worth a lot, but to a limited crowd. But if it's been modded, painted, hacked, etc, it's worth substantially less. There's a lot of overpriced KE10's out there at the moment on ebay etc.
