Hit the Mazda forums. Someone will have wheels to fit surely. I don't feel that staggering them will make it handle too great. So what kind of engine are you running that requires 9s to get the power down?

Was shadowed by a champagne VE commodoore D car with steelys the other day. I also spotted a vivid blue VE with 19 inch chromies picking races and booking people.

Starlets are small enough to be exciting with K motors. Scale up the platform, scale up the motor if you ask me. There is a real cult now with probably a couple of thousand 4age ke70 chassis cars being built or already on the roads in Australia. This number is increasing very fast too, for obvious reasons. I can see perhaps a Corolla Series taking off. I do not know if it would integrate properly with the Gemini series unless it was just to boost numbers and to not necessarily race specifically comparable vehicles. Id love to participate. I have thought about this at length, there are a few obstacles. If you were to have a Corolla series, you could allow A and K classes. That way you all can race together like other production races, and be classed by motor. Id happily pit my A powered AE71 against any other A powered Corolla, fwd or rwd given the chance. A set of simple design rules would be needed of course. Id think motors should be stock internals, stock gearboxes, even stock diffs or T series at the biggest. Brakes free, ECU, free, and a maximum rim diameter and width of say 15x7, and 195/50 street tyres for parity and low cost. Id love to see it happen, keep us posted, mr O.P. and we can see how it pans out.

Timing belt and tensioner, cam seals, main seals, rocker cover gasket. Spigot bearing. Head gasket is better done out of the car if it needs it. You can remove the sump and de sludge it, then seal it back up nicely. Keep your oil a bit cleaner. Have a look inside the head and see if it needs any cleaning done. I carefully picked about a tablespoon of oil sludge out of my last motor, around the cams. Just have a good look at it and see what needs doing.

You will find that the police or transport authority will stick a probe up the exhaust and not even need to get under there to look. If you fail emissions then here in QLD its up around a 2000 dollar fine. If I were you, Id look into the laws, you can always dump the full exhaust for track days. If your explanation to the people who catch you out is something like, "My dad said it was ok", you will get laughed at. Ignorance isn't a legal defence. Anyhow, its a very, very nice chassis, just don't turn it into too much of a mad max prop. A new cat converter is around $150 here in Australia. Its really a no brainer to fit it. Cars as old as that in Australia do not have to have them unless you fit a motor that came with one in its original state. So if you mod the carby motor in an australian ke70, then you don't need to run one. If you do what I did and fit a 96 model EFI engine, then you must run one. Just jump on the web or the phone and make a 5 minute call and you will know. Id just hate to see you get it taken off the road, once all the hard work is done. :y: Cheers.

I think you will find ke70.com to be more or less a completely un moderated place. Hence the fact that the new members haven't been approved for a long time. Its a distant cousin of Rollaclub. Is this a track only car? I dunno about the laws over there, but bumper skins are there to protect pedestrians. Imagine if you hit someone with that thing? Itd be like putting them through a cheese grater. Also, the exhaust sounds a bit nuts. If its going on the road, you will end up with a severe fine with no cat in a car that should have one. Mufflers are good too.

I think the easiest way to roll your gaurds out wider at home, is just to find a heavy length of 2 or 3 inch galvanised pipe (or an old shock absorber as I used) and force it up between the lip and the tyre. This will roll the inner edge up flat to the outer. It will also force the whole show a bit wider, especially if you apply some heat on the metal with a heat gun. If its really stiff, get someone to gently drive the car back and forth while you align the pipe. That will move it. The rears don't work as well as the fronts, because there is an extra layer of metal, but you should still get 10-15mm a side if you persist. If you want to lower it on the cheap, then all you need is some Shorter springs and shocks. What struts does the car run? If you have the smaller diameter struts like Australian KE70s had, then you would need to upgrade to a 2 inch diameter strut to make a good choice of shock absorbers fit your car. You may already have better struts, being that you have a bigger, faster motor than a k motor, this may have been factory equipment, but honestly, I just don't know. If you'd like more power, you can do a lot with a 2t or 3t motor. There is a 2t/3t hybrid you can build, there is also plenty of those motors that can take a tonne of boost. I always use Greyhound freight. Pretty cheap, gentle on goods but the catch is if you want it cheap then you have to collect it from the local depot. They pass thru most major towns and cities and some not so major, so they have pretty good coverage. Ive shipped to WA with them before from QLD with no problems.

The ke70 and ae86 sprinter steering arms do not share the same bolt pattern. You will need to use ae86 steering arms or xt130 steering arms to fit ae86 struts. If the struts are 2 inches in diameter you will have either ae86, celica or corona struts. Or possibly t18, if I had to guess. The strut top 3 bolt pattern is the same on ae86 and ke70, and the rear suspension is more or less the same. The ke70 and ae86 lower control arms are the same. The difference is the diameter of the strut and the bolt spacing under the strut for the steering arms.

I wouldnt suggest torquing the chassis, sounds like a bad idea. Might be able to accomplish something if you do it on a wheel aligning setup, but if you push the towers apart, you will reduce camber and just generally ruin your wheel alignment. As stated, its for fitting to bent cars.

You can do pretty decent suspension on the cheap with some work, so I say get the ke stuffed with some hp right from the start. Chuck in a ca18 or sr20, and go nuts. Go and make Foxtail (Sam) an offer on his twin charged rig, perhaps. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=25047

You will find those threads are there for a bolt on centre point puller. I say be very careful if you do it that way, you really don't want to bottom anything out on the motor if you can avoid it.

Sounds good for the wrench. If the pulley is stuck on once the bolt is snapped off, put equal pressure either side with a pair of levers and then tap it with a hammer, it will slide right off. Most people go one side then another and flog them out.

I had a vs ute for a fair while. Probably 4 years. In that time, the only expensive issue was the clutch. It has a dual mass flywheel which you need to replace and it runs to 2k. If I wanted it cheap to maintain Id stick with the vr and its more simplified clutch. Other than that it was awesome. It was a 5 speed and it was very decent to drive, had a little bit of suspension work and it felt very planted. Motor never let me down, although it was professionally serviced the whole time.

Hey, always good to see overseas members post up! The ae86 struts are a good upgrade, because there are many shocks available for them being that they have the bigger diameter. This will mean there are many springs available for them too. In the back, you can have your standard springs compressed by a suspension shop, or you can have custom ones made. or you can use AE86 rear springs too. As mentioned above, best and safest practice is to buy some shorter shock absorbers to make sure the springs don't fall out front or rear.
