Id say the main issue with adding a cage to a street car is the added time and difficulty the fire brigade will have removing you from it should the worst happen. Harnesses do not replace adr seatbelts either for street use. It can be done within the law as all bolt in structures are more or less legal. I just don't think you can weld in A pillar bars any more.

All the work was only like 1500 bucks. Exhaust, floor repairs, headers and fitting the cage nicely.

Cool. I'm sure you could help just fibe. I'm also thinking about moddelling a glass airbox with foam and Id love your help with that also, since youve done a bit. Come by this saturday am if you want to have a look over it and give me a hand. If you have time that is.

Medicine man is coming over to work his magic on saturday next week. I have the blank 2m adaptronic loom and the stock uncut 2azfe loom from this exact engine. Wone be too hard, mightbe harder working out how to fit body looms and trim. I really need someone who knows ae86 inside out to come and have a look through the wires and interior with me.

Connected the radiator hoses and did up the clamps. Mounted the moroso header tank. Took notes on the fittings and bungs I need to connect the header tank to radiator. Random parts from someone elses car that were sitting in mine when it came home on the truck. Someones going to be cranky. The new tank fits awesome. Diff bend is a work of art.

Any local lurkers know how the complete interior goes together? Id like to have someone come by and help me see if I need to source much else. Just wrote a long to do list. I'm going to go and play with it I think. I think a 5sfe has a near identical cam sensor that points 90 degrees off with the wiring clip to replace the straight on type that the 2az comes with. I'm going to look into setting it up with one of those, just to make the clearance as neat as possible.

lol. Yeah a bit upsetting, I will point out the workmanship is great and hes fixing it for nothing. I wish he would have asked me though. Old guys + internet = failure I guess. I'm still going to push on and fit all the other systems. It wont really hold me up, it was going back to ricks for some finer points later anyhow. Its just a frustration to have your feeling of progress truncated after the fact. :osama:

Except the 2azfe has the same firing order as 4age 1342, and the headers are out of phase! Never mind, I called Ricky and he said don't stress Ill swap em over no worries. He says he looked it up and saw other done that way so he assumed it was right, and copied, rather than actually finding the firing order and doing it his own way. Bit of a ʞ©$ɟ up really. ʞ©$ɟ! More towing, more delays and more BS for me.

Thanks mate. Its been a while since Ive seen it but I'm loving how it looks now. Ive already arranged Medicine Man to pop over next saturday and organise the wiring of the car. I'm pumped! I'm stoked on the exhaust and headers. Full custom mandrel bent from front to back, over diff, super neat looking. I'm going to finish off the systems one by one and get it back to ricks for one or two minor things after the rest is together. Rick has held off fitting the A pillar bars because he wants the trim in first and the foot appeared to land right in front of the gas pedal. We will se how the car looks when its all back together I suppose. I need to fit fuel lines, wiring, plumb the radiator up, connect the fuel system, finish the idle control manifold up, fabircate an intake box. Put the door on, fit the hatch and adjust as needed, quite a lot really. At least I can do it now I have it back! Custom radiator mounts A slightly more complete engine bay The main hoop and rear legs are permanent welded and sikaflexed in. The bolts are really for show. The nicely repaired boot floor: Rick does amazing headers and amazing prices on them, Ill never buy off the shelf ones again. I can also higly reccomend Mark at Best Rate Towing: 0411 315 228. Very good prices and service, tell em matt with the sprinter sent ya. So tell me what you guys think!

Picking it up tomorrow!

You might have a broken earth or a blown fuse, or possibly the ghost of a previous owner has become enraged by your hang ring and dildo shifter and is haunting you out of spite.

Looks sweet mate. Whats the stud pattern? 4x100?

aw10 is to aw11 what ae85 is to ae86.

Ca18 + Borg warner = scrap metal. -
Why the fe? When the GE is already rwd?

Looks good mate. Pretty rough cast on the manifold, bring it by the shed if you wanna polish it and if it needs matching to the carbs we can do that too.
-
Will do Chris, hell yes! :2thumbs:
-
Nope. Rick is making a few adjustments to it. The main hoop is going to be permanent. There will be a welded in bar between the shock mounts above the spring seats, The rear legs will be welded to that.

Ill be using a booster, its a street car. I finally have some sort of an update. My fabricator located a wheel well for me, so I drove up to petrie and met an ae86 owner called Josh. I also got some beat up old trims to restore so I will actually have some door cards. When your rear end is rocking horse poo, its nice to have a spare one.

Theres a vast array of different quality work out there with conversions. Id suggest you tackle something smaller, especially if this is your first attempt at a higher hp conversion. You want to do it properly or you will have issue with rego later. In my conversion, I looked for an engine that weighed the same as stock but gave a capacity increase, so I chose 2azfe from 02-09 camry/rav4. Its a couple kgs lighter than the 4age I used to run. While the engineering is har to do with this particular engine to mate it to a tranny, I researched for a long time and found a way to do it. I made mounts, manifolds for some itbs, crossmember. Enlisted the help of good and skilled friends and some skilled fabricators. I intend to tune it myself to save some money. Ill probably get it running on a base map, have it dyno tuned and then road tune everything under the curve. I'm pushing 20k already and I havenet even got an exhaust, tailshaft, or wiring done yet. Ill have it back soon with all but wiring and paint done. don't focus on your budget too heavily. You may be better off just spending the 3 grand you have now on some better suspension componentry to make it handle great and really get to know the good points of the ke70 and its nimble handling before installing a boat anchor in the front. Engine weight and shape shouild influence your decision. I'm not sure of a k engines weight, but a 4age is around the 118kg mark. My 2az is 113kgs. A 1JZ Might be 190kgs with all its extraslike turbos and intercoolers. Youre in v8 weight territory. As a rule of thumb, you might consider trying to have no more than 4 cylinders in a line front to back as then you wont be too far outside the normal balance of the car. Even GM is conscious of this balance issue; when they go chcking an ls2 or larger engine in the front of a corvette they add a torque tube and trans axle to spread the wieight out to the rear of the car. Its not something car designers overlook so its not something you should either. Especially if performance in a holistic sense is the goal. For 3 grand you could do the cheapest of 4age conversions, or work the shit out of the K engine, fit a 7k, Fit a 2tg if you can find one. You arent really going to find it will go far for some kind of 300hp upgrade with any engine. What about sr20 DE. NA version. Its miles ahead of the stock engine. EFI, not super powerful but about 3 times better than a stock 4k thats 30 years old plus. Its not heavy either. NO bs to make tuning hard like a turbo, just run it on a stock ecu. Honestly if you are looking for all the fun a 1jz can offer you need to fit it to a car with a straight six designed bay, like someone said above, MA series celicas, BMW e30, or maybe a mark2 rona or Nissan z car if you want to think outside the toyota box. Or just do some weight reduction on the soarer and drift that thing till it pops. Just track the shit out of it. Overcome the inexplicably heavy soarer chassis and youll be fine with it in that body.

Don't do it. Pick something 4 cylinder or v6 so you can still go around corners. Someone wise once said; Just because you have an engine lying around, doesnt mean it should be installed in your ke70. Choose something that will be road legal and steerable when done. A ke70 with 150hp atw will be as quick as a Soarer with a healthy 1j. You don't need all that power to launch a tiny car.

I made the comment for the ta64 but Tonys ke70 is equally as heroic. :clover:

Drove it 304 klm on the high way today. Return to Oakey to see family. I'd never put it on the highway before. It gets about 8klm/litre around town, bit higher if you babay her. It did 11klm/litre on the highway drive, which is great, exceeded my expectations. Didnt miss a beat and just purred the whole way. There were plenty of stops and starts at roadworks too. It feels a bit quieter on the highway than a ke70 due to much slicker aero I think. KE70 sounds like a tissue box cutting through the wind.
