A stock 5k bottom end will handle 7500rpm easy enough with trips beyond if neccessary :) Could wind it off the tacho.

OK, this has gone quiet so I'll post up one I am personally involved with. RACV Energy Breakthrough http://www.racvenergybreakthrough.net/ None of this wimpy 6 hour stuff, we are going twice around the clock. Yep 24 hours of racing for school teams. Heaps of classes, hybrid, human powered or electric/petrol only vehicles on two tracks. don't think that school made means POS. Some of these things are seriously high tech. Carbon fibre/kevlar composites are getting common. Have seen back to pit telemetry being used. Both track have speed limits put on them (nudge nudge) to control the speed somewhat, even so a good team can clock nearly 1000km in 24 hours. I know our beasty can clock 70km/h................ So if you are doing nothing on the weekend 24th 25th November, come up and say g'day. I'll be managing team "RUN A MUK" on the Holden track, hopefully having an easy time of it - although some nasty issues are cropping up with the old girl during practice :(

A family member did the cheap and nasty method in his Mazda and it was a prick of a thing to drive. Notchy, hard to shift. Basically it was a pig. Turned me off shortened shifters ever since. A mate had a proper short shifter in his Nissan. Mush nicer to drive, but still too short a throw for my liking. About 5cm total distance between gears......

No, hydrolics are fine. Used to run a reground 5k cam with hydrolic lifters with no issue. Just gotta ask yourself how many revs do you want to pull. With the standard 5k gear, I had the shift light set at 7500rpm and would regulary exceed that. IMO changing to solids is a waste of time and effort unless it is an all out race engine.

Only ever had to run a helmet once for a motorkhana, at the Bendigo saleyards. Thought it was weird before the start, but when I was hitting third gear I started to understand why...............

Great day today. Was good to catch up with kickn5k (Stuart) for a chat and finally put a face to a name :) Last race was worth hanging around for, lots of panel rubbing and offs to keep me entertained.

Had a ripper day. Heaps of pics with the young fella and the drivers. Love or hate 888, but they looked after us. Even let us into their garage for a pic with the car. Early start tomoz to get to Sandown in time for a pit walk. 8:30am and a 3 hour drive don't mix - fark you organisers................... Is your mates Jag number 10, the Bathurst winning car? Or is theor another one that I have not seen yet?

Debating if I go Sat or Sun. Taking the boys tomorrow for a looksy and number 2 has already told me he is going Sat as well....................... I'll keep an eye out as I loved the TWR Jags in 2005.

Would of thought that they would of been enough as I was only running two normal 3k carbs on a 3kb manifold. Guess I liked to hear my 5k howling in pain :)

To use mine as an example - it would wind off the tacho if I was feeling mean. The shift light was set at 7500 rpm. Something doesnt sound right with yours.

Woot, finally found the album with all of my Germany stuff in it :) Left it at work........ Anyway, found my lap times of the indoor track. It was 48.04 seconds :dancetall: for my best lap. Seeing as over 5 years have past since I was there, they arent comparable (but my pregnant wife did a 50.26 second lap :P ) Now I have the album I can throw up a few pics of what we were allowed to photo inside TTE and if you are really nice some pics from the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
