  1. Aaron that looks great!! Are you certain you want to put the rub strips back on? Just the car looks so clean without them and the thing is putting them back on after removing them is quite fiddly, particularly when they distort or sagged after removal... Keep up the good work anyhow!
  2. Nice ke70 logan, just needs the chrome trim rings refitted and a left hand mirror!
  3. Good stuff Sam, it was like yesterday we were speaking about rego on this and that was when, 6 or more weeks ago. Ill pop around and check it out this week or weekend for sure! Take me for a drive !?
  4. Ke70 Series one flat front labelled XX is called Tumut Blue. Series two slant front was called opal blue, probably a change in the tint for the new model hence the confusion. So tumut blue should be on the records.
  5. Good to hear Sam, can't wait to check it out  Like I said before, ke70s in your area of town are so fun to zip around in. I have a ball when I take mine out for a drive. We'll to take them on a run somewhere!
  6. Thats the one Josh, the auction is still going when I saw last. Good original car in the silver, wheels don't look too bad either. Keep the updates coming!
  7. I know what your saying Willis, they are fun cars, basic, easy to get parts off the shelf for and with a little shopping and patience conversions can be cheaper. Clearly there is something more appealing about an e7 instead of s13 as people are prepared to spend what we may consider as expensive to buy such an old car. Particularly if they have spent $15 thousand in a s13 all kitted out 5 thousand for a Corolla is petty cash to them. These are the cars you either have the money for or don't, not everyone wants a jdm drift machine, or rat rod e7 as the masses are becoming, so finding something untouched will become a rarity and will therefore appreciate and stabilise with time.
  8. I'm suprised the ke10 and 20s havent inflated like their Mazda, Datsun/Nissan Holden and Mitsubishi rivals. There have been a few nice ones come up from time to time in a tidy original condition at half the price of the rivals. With time appreciation and demand will increase and so will asking prices.. Rightfully so. Mazdas, Datsuns, Escorts, Cortinas, Galants, Sigmas, Geminis for over 20 years have been dominant amongst enthusiasts, have a look at fast fours and rotaries from the 80's or similair magazines. If you could grab any one copy you'd regularly see one of those cars, whats odd is the Corolla which was prominent from the beginning didnt really catch on the same way, until in recent years. Its one of those things where trends, tastes and demands change and its something were experiencing now. Of course people will jump on the band wagon and ask 6 thousand for a garaged fresh ke70 or ae71, or 10 thousand for a ke30 which was parked in a Melbourne Home for 35 years, their old, original, untouched, unrestored (needless to say they may need a mile long list of things to be fixed) but these arent percieved as a cheap mode transport anymore, nor are they marketed that way. These cars are aimed at people with the $$, Of course a kid every now and then will pop up on here trying to make a quick buck but thats life, We've all seen it. As Matt mentioned, someone who may have grown up with the model who really wants something like examples which have surfaced would pay that money. Particularly if they were unable to afford it earlier on. What was once a cheap point a-b trolley wont be down the track if things continue the way they have, this market of Corolla prices from ke10 to ae71 is developing so expect to see what you may think as unrealistic prices becoming a common sight. My 2 cents.
  9. The current ones are non genuine maybe, possibly replica?
  10. Thats come out awesome and its not even finished yet! I understand your comment about spending time wet sanding and polishing hour after hour, did it on the ke70 and still the photos don't it justice. Looking forward to seeing the finished product, Keep it up!
  11. Glad it gave you a bit on idea, its a bit of fiddling around. If you were dead set for it it'd be possble but flat fronts come up every now and then for sale as a complete car or just front end parts. /\/\/\ Jakes got a good point, the panel vans have the front DX trim level, the scuttle panel you have already matches so it'd be guards, headlights, grille, beaver panel, front bumper (as it sits flat against the beaver, not curved like the adm flat front). Make sure you get the rear bar too.
  12. Short andswer - no. Front guards need a little cutting where it meets with the base of the a pillars and front doors as the t-18 has a lower windscreen angle down to the guards. Scuttle panel below the windscreen needs to be replaced too as the slant front has a different pressing compared to the flat front or te72 (t-18) front. Being a slant front the headlight, grille and beaver wont go directly on, you'll need to redrill the radiator support for adequate mounting or ultimatley chop and weld he te72 radiator support on. Its more intensive but atleast the front end will tidier as far as gaps and fitment is concerned. Also t-18 guards have the rubber bump strips recessed into the panels at a different height, ke70/ae71 don't have this as the bump strip was just stuck on... it wont match up or look right at all.
  13. Car looks great as always. Have you considered a rear muffler off a r31 Skyline or Pintara? While they are considerably large (length and height) there should be adequate room to accomodate it with some modding of hangers which I'm sure youll be capable of. They seem to have the l o n g twin pipes from the back. You could always have a play with one when your at pick a part next ;) Edit heres a pic of I'm talking about.
  14. Its hard definetley, but well done on having the mind set of planning ahead and saving. A concept which is foreign, very foreign to guys your age. Atleast you are trying to make something better of yourself. I don't mean to sound serious but Ive seen and heard of this so many times. While it may have been 3 weeks of pay you spent in 4 days, you can honestly say you didnt need to ask for that money from anybody because its yours! Its worse being in a position when you need to borrow... And no don't do work for free, why should you. At the end of the day your only bettering the person who asked for the help knowing you wont take the money. If they offer you some $$ take it because they'd be paying more to have a qualified gardener, tree lopper or whoever doing the same thing anyway.
  15. That should be good then, I know him and ive seen pictures of his 86 resto. Another twin for mine!? So are you still going with a stripe, or are you happy to let stay stay plain for a bit?
  16. The cost varies depending on which dealer you purchase your filters from, yzze1 (Thai made) for my ae92 is around $16.00 and the larger japenese unit for the ke70 is around $20.00. Two dealers in Melbourne denied having the larger filter for a ke70 as there too old! So I just get mine from Cannon Toyota in Heidelberg, been doing this since jan last year so the guy knows what I want =) I had ryco on the ke70 before, whether the car was started daily or not the oil light would glow for 4-5 seconds until the pressure built up Either cold or hot start. The small difference of cost between that and a genuine is small, so its Toyota for me.
  17. Welcome Jay, that must be on of the latest model ke72 wagons to be produced judging by that front end! Looks great. By radiator cover you mean the black plastic which surrounds the fan? If so its important to have that particularly if the car has a/c like yours. Your wagon is one of the few to have a steering box set up, in Australia the sedan wagon and panelvan (Ke70 and Ae71) model code featured rack and pinion steering. The te72 (T-18) featured a steering box. I wouldnt get too carried away with fitting a ae86 dash cluster in, I believe they are a different size and the shaping of the lense wont fit flush with the rest of the surrounding assembly. You should be able to obtain one from a higher trim level ke70, ae71 or te72 which should plug straight in. As for repair manuals, I can't see why one for an australian build ke70 (Gregorys publication) wouldnt work. Its mainly cosmetic differences anyway. Keep up the good work and keep the photos coming
  18. Looking forward to seeing the finished product, DPB or another Dan? Were you going with 2pac or acrylic?
  19. Glad you got hold of that brochure, makes the car more complete with a bit of history! Looking forward to seeing some photos!
  20. I'm thinking it may be due to the depth differences of the two bars. Ive only had this series two so I can't compare it to anything else. But going by eye the series two sticks out more.
  21. Mystik raised a good point, make sure your replacement bar has all the bracketry with it because there may be differences between the two units. Series one has more lines running through it, it also has two ventilation ducts at the very bottom as well. This type of bumper sits a little more flush with the grille and headlights (doesent stick out as far as the series two). This is the series one: This is my series two, This type sits out a little further, sits lower to the ground, has a larger air flow area and larger indicator units.
  22. Sell what you've got, put a bit of extra money aside and buy a seca sx (ae93) with the 4age. Fairly common, ideal base to start with, p plate legal in standard form which responds well to mods. Its not worth the bother of swapping all that gear into a lower spec one, as I said they do come up fairly frequently its a matter of finding one you want.
  23. 3.9 is ideal, I ran that in my ae71 when I converted to a manual and the difference was considerably noticable as opposed to the 3 speed auto and 4.11 diff gears. Still good top end speed and response and fuel economy.
  24. Ive got that rubber, was destined for my ke70 but after seeing it plain and clean I quickly said no the idea. Good condition, cleaned up and rebacked with proper autobody double sided tape. Was off a wagon so the right hand rear 1/4 panel mould is one piece (could be cut into three piece), unlike the sedan which is three as it goes through the fuel door. If your interested pm me and well take it from there.
  25. Good first car you have there, I also had one never missed a beat. But seriously its just easier to acquire a proper twincam which has naturally the 4age, efi and the associated loom(s), efi fuel tank, brakes, suspension etc, etc, etc and go from there. Just give it a good service, new plugs, leads, oil, oil filter, aircleaner, fuel filter and it will be more drivable. Perhaps think into the handling side of things on this car. Sports shocks, springs, bushes perhaps, they are fun car to drive spiritedly in stock form so I'm sure with those additions it would only get better.
