Just to clarify, my comment was in reference to adding roof racks/cargo pods as a fashion statement, rather than a functional necessity. IMHO, if you're buying a supercar & want to transport cargo, you're buying the wrong car. I tend to live life with my tongue in one cheek & my foot in the other.

That's been working for me so far, I would like to use gears other than first & reverse though! :laff: I'm glad I don't take this all too seriously, didn't drive that well results-wise, but had enough fun to not really care. I placed 29th out of 49 Outright, 32nd on Handicap, 10th out of 17 in Class A (beaten by an AE82 Twin Cam by ~15 seconds all up) & 4th out of 7 in Novice class. The next round is at the Saleyards in Bendigo, which from what I've seen/heard about the surface, should be good!

Blue Thing: The Daily / Motorkhana Hack (Now Efi)

More shots of Sundays antics, damn this is good fun! Except the early wake-ups on Sunday mornings, damn they suck! Thoughts on where the rollaclub.com sticker should go? Top of windscreen or top of hatch glass? :hmm:- 539 replies

Which video? If BT, blame my friend, if other cars, blame me! :laff: As you may be able to tell from the launches, a 2A-C does not exactly light them up. Loads of grip, no torque to really do anything with it. :( All good Stu, things happen, I will drag you & Godfrey along to one sooner or later! :P *cough bringthedatto cough*- 539 replies

Blue Thing: The Daily / Motorkhana Hack (Now Efi)
carbonboy replied to carbonboy's topic in Rollaclub Rides
Yeah, 'daily driver'... *cough cough* Steering feels a lot heavier to turn & the road noise at 80-100km/h would get annoying after a short time. Didn't want to do much more 'comparison' to road tyres on public roads with an air temperature of -1 degrees & the weight of two people, 4 spare wheels/tyres & tools in the car. I'd also like to note that these tyres are ADR/DOT approved & had plenty of tread before the wear indicators, my tyre guy wouldn't have put them on the wheels for me if they didn't. The purpose of driving on the roads with them was to clean all the clumps of rubber/rocks etc stuck to them from their previous use off so I had a nice.clean surface. Worked well! But once off public roads & in a controlled environment, lets have some fun. Who needs a 4A? Oh wait, me, now that there's some new competition. :D- 539 replies

There's a fair reason why I'm not beating Batch yet, he's just plain faster & a shipload more experienced than I am. For example, this is his run at 'Gate Slalom': And his 'Loopy Slalom'. The tyres helped but I'm going to need a 4A-GC to have a real chance, the 2A-C just doesn't have the torque to use second gear effectively :( As always the rest of the playlist (both in-car & outside footage) can be found here:

Discovering I REALLY REALLY like the 'Plumb Crazy' Test: Getting the inside rear off the ground in 'Manoeuvering': And again in 'Gate Slalom':

Well things didn't break (this time around) & the really good news is the rear tyres I retired from street driving duties are still good for another event. Sweet! Having the semi's on the front seemed to help, rather than a 4 wheel undeersteer/oversteer mutant-drift-thingy when using the handbrake, the fronts gripped & the rear was quite happy to just fling around. Didn't help me too much, drove rather horribly overall, but did manage to beat my usual 3 flags & a WD. Only 2 flags today! *fistpump* Had a friend of mine come along to see what this is all about, if it didn't float his boat he could always watch novices at a V8 drive day crash a Commodore at turn one next door. Thankfully he liked what he saw & got some footage from outside of the car. Which means twice the footage to edit/upload, but oh well. It's great to see what it looks like watching yourself drive, I can tell you that from the inside of the car, I had NO idea I was getting the inside rear wheel that high off the ground! :blinks:

I'd dare say your good name is safe LRS, at least, I'll still buy from you. Seems like a perfect example of what NOT to do, go for it!

Don Mettrick Apologizes For The Xbone Failure

Damn I love that tune. -
You're right, but I'm hoping you're wrong, if that makes sense? Given that I have about an hour total experience in a car with semis, I'm thinking that I should just drive the courses. Rather than adopting my usual disregard for flags style.

For it to run 100% correctly, the factory carburetor is the best option. DGEV - electric choke would probably be the best bet from those three though. Do you mean adapt side-draught trumpets to a down-draught carburetor, or do you mean change to side-draught carburetors? Yes you can change to side-draught carbs, although you will need an adapter/custom manifold for them (depending on what type you choose). The best setup is the one that works & makes YOU happy.

It was a beautiful day out today, bit of a fresh breeze coming off the water but thermals solve that problem. Yeah, a Mitsubishi Lancer that's not an Evo & still cool. This one may be familiar to a few people... Random guy driving by taking his kids to soccer asked if he could come back with his other ride, "Sure!" we said. This was his 'other ride'. Yum. That is all. TExx  Crown  Arty-farty shot, with a touch of luck with the timing. I am so doing this all wrong... Blue Thing: The Daily / Motorkhana Hack (Now Efi)

I'd kind of always said I'd do it as a bit of a laugh, now it's actually going to happen... Dunlop Direzza 03G's in a 195/60/R14, after a bit of persistence, someone within TCCAV was able to track me down some semi-slicks in a 14". Should make the next motorkhana a little more interesting. Next thing you know, those MRP coilovers will be going in!- 539 replies

WMMH - Having a late night on a Friday & still being sound asleep when the the phone starts ringing & wakes me up at 9:30am on a Saturday morning. This doesn't actually make me happy, this usually makes me rather grumpy & rapidly decreases the callers life expectancy. What does make me happy is that they were calling to inform me that they had located some good condition, cheaply-priced semi-slicks in a 14" size. WOO HOO!!!

The way I figure it is, if I give the person doing the work a basic list of things to do, I'm sure their experience will find more that needs to be done for me. Finding time is a problem lately, so not much will happen with the block until the cylinder head goes out the door, the rods/pistons can continue to sit in their little cardboard box.- 539 replies

Did some experimenting with the valves & different chemicals to see what cleaned them the best. Kerosene, petrol, solvent de-greaser, Coles brand oven cleaner & gasket stripper all failed me. In the end, a wire wheel on a bench grinder FTMFW! The gasket stripper in conjunction with a nylon brush however, did a pretty good job on the cylinder head. Clean enough for me to go over it & make up a list of what it needs done, acid dipping to clean out the oil/coolant galleries is already on that list. Machining the block-mating surface if required, crack testing & a leak-down test to see if I do a decent job of lapping the valves is the remainder of that list at the moment. Fingers crossed I don't find anything amiss along the way!- 539 replies

You'll be right, just park next to my Blue Thing, she'll make your car look a million bucks! -
Can you upload a photo of what you've got? I'm looking at an exploded diagram of a 4A-C & can't quite figure what you mean. :(

Club meeting time again this Tuesday, at the Emerald Hotel, Clarendon Street, South Melbourne. Meeting starts at 8pm, food, drinks & banter at the bar starts around 7pm.

I highly suggest you take a look at what it takes & more importantly, what it costs to get a 4AGE to spin RELIABLY to those kind of RPM & reconsider your thinking. Don't mean to be rude, but I think you're dreaming a little. Got the feeling this topic has been covered before too :hmm: A boosted 4AFC would be interesting, would probably make 4AGE power, but would cost more to do as all the fabrication work would add up. Lower compression is what you'd need for that, which seems to be the opposite of what you intend to originally build.

Slight change of plan, this months CC&D has been moved to RMS Titanic in Williamstown. It will be held on Sunday the 16th of June from 8:00am to 10:30am, on the corner of Nelson Parade & Kanowna Street in Williamstown. The donuts will be fresh & the coffee as always, will be hot and tasty. For a Google Maps link to the location, please click here: http://goo.gl/maps/Av3gt . The venue of Classic Garage had unfortunately been double booked & so a change of destination was needed.
