  5. it was honestly pretty scary, it's "only" a 14 second car but it was the first time i'd both driven and gotten up something with boost. just the way it comes on so fiercely the more you rev it, and it gets more scary the more gears you pick boosting in fourth and watching the speedo just keep winding, it turned me off turbo cars until i learn to drive alot better :y: my mate reckons you get used to it, and it just seems normal, even un-exciting to him now, but i wouldn't say i'd be keen to try racing or getting broad in a car with that much power, and that sort of power delivery i'll stick to na corollas for now ;)
  6. engine bolts in get the distributor curved if you have a different cam, but it will run on the stock one until you can afford it

  8. could also be high compression, they run 9.8:1 as opposed to a 5E-FE's 9.4, but the jap spec 5E-FE runs 9.8 so hmm. i must say, after driving that galant, i like the linear power delivery of a good na motor as well, so i'd go the 5E :P i've often wondered if those echo engines are any good. i know they sound TOUGH AS A MOFO when you put a decent pipe on them :bash:
  9. that totally owns, my friend who used to have a starlet is going to LOVE that story what's the H in the 5E? i've heard of guys with good 4E-FTE setups change to 5E bottom ends and actually go slower, food for thought
  10. a mate of mine has (had? it might have been sold by now) an import turbo galant with a bit of work done to the engine. one night a little while ago we took it out and gteched it with the boost wound up to 15psi. he was half full so i was driving. sooo much power! :P

  17. no performance or cruise bike over 1L is bad for torque not when it's only moving 200-odd kg, including rider, anyway

  19. 110mm backspacing on 15s clears a corolla strut, 120mm backspacing fouls obviously if you go bigger in rim size, you get more room to play with, if you go smaller you get less room to play with

  21. lol, glad you got a kick out of it the moral of the story is that everyone on oldrollas and on rollaclub is important, and the world of corollas would be very different without all of them, i just happened to be the person to collect it all into an easily readable format. hurrah for collective sharing of information :P

  23. i have heaps of time to help out intelligent people. but every now and then you find someone who's just so much of a lost cause it's not worth your time to educate them, because no matter how hard you try, you can tell they just won't get it this topic is also becoming an interesting commentary on me. keep those first impressions coming people
  24. i wrote the original faq off things i'd collected in and around oldrollas. it's how doug and fook and i all met, many years ago. the dude who started it, stewart, has gone to japan for a couple of years. we still keep in touch oldrollas is kinda quiet these days, all the people who talk alot are on here, all the idiots are either moderated or banned. it's still growing, i approve probably 5 to 10 new memberships every week. there's been a long history of low bullshit tolerance and not getting off topic, i guess they're all using the search function :P ps: that faq is now here on rollaclub
