  1. I have a 609 in "Dirt". Don't actually have any up-rated valve springs (yet), 32/32 weber, extractors and a 2 inch system. I also have a 3k head on to up the comp a bit. IIHO picking a camshaft because of the noise it makes at idle is a bad idea. If thats the only thing steering you away from the 621 then maybe you should re-consider your choice. :y:
  2. Hvae you had a good look at some products pages such as this one.... http://www.camtechcams.com.au/cat/toyota.html
  3. LRS seems to have given you all of the tech info you really need at this stage, so I'll give you my opinion of the motor as that would be the same engine that I have in my Hiace work van. I keep thinking to myself when driving it lately that one of these engine would be great in a daily driven/weekend fun car. If you wanted to buld a more serious drift/track day car then I'd look at something else, but for what they are (a industrial engine) they really are quite good. Have good torque from the big capacity, although this would limit the top end a bit hence the 5200rpm peak power. They do however get up an mumbo once the VVTi kick in (which is very noticable - mostly in the way it roars!), but don't be thinking the variable valve timing is going to get you 9000rpm like a honda..... remember its is an industrial engine. I think one of the other things that makes me like it more (and I can't believe I'm saying this) is actually the auto gearbox!! Toyota obviously spend a lot of time perfecting this and it shows. Ratios are well set up (about 50kmh in first, 110kmh in second, and third keeps going to around 150'ish!), shifts are almost un-noticably smooth and just the way in which the shifter is set up tops it off. Its bloody quick for a work van. I been playing in the slip-lanes in Hobart lately with it hehe, last week I only just got beaten by an NA silvia, but that was probably only casue I had 3/4 of a tonne in the back!! :y: Also gotta be a bit careful in the wet with it. most of the time in first gear (with the back empty) it will light up when VVTi kicks in. Actually Yesterday just as it started raining I floored it in first and it didn't spin, but then it shifted to 2nd, lit up and sent me down the road sideways!! So yeah, would be good in a "fun to drive daily" like KE, but if you want to go more serious then look elsewhere. Might also be worth visiting some aution yards to try and find a written off Hiace or Lux, I dare say this would be the cheapest way yuou're going to get one, and you'll also get the ECU etc as well as a gearbox and diff.
  4. So what is the purpose of this car? Is it a paddock basher or a registered road car? Best place to start for ideas would be having a good look in the rollaclub rides section at what other have done in KE2X's.
  5. Schweet. I'm in no major rush for it so I'll word you up next week maybe. thanks mate. :y:
  6. Nah not local sorry mate. They always get snapped up pretty quick. They do come up for sale on the mainland quite regularly though like the link I put in your wanted thread. :y:
  7. Any engine conversion is possible with enough research, time and money!! Getting a 4efte to bolt up to a K50 IS however impossible. :y:
  8. Oh and if you're using shitty 2x piece ACL gaskets then that would also be half your problem, cause I'm guessing it burns out between ports 2 & 3 where the gaskets but up. Go to Bursons and order a permaseal EM30 which is a 1x piece steel gasket. If you get a "valued customer"/trade price you should be able to get one for around $12, which is actually cheaper than the shitty ACL ones. :y: Not the best pic, but the top head still has an old EM30 stuck to it. Note the inlet ports are big-port sized, but this doesn't in any way effect using one on a small port head......
  9. I reckon your problem is 2x different thinkness mounting flanges on the weber manifold and ex minfold. The weber manifold is probably slightly thicker, hence the ex manifold isn't getting pressed up to the head at tight as it should be. This is pretty easily fixed by skimming the bigger one so they're both the same thinkness. I had the same issue with a 7ke manifold which was 12mm, and my turbo exhaust manifold flange was 10mm think. Didn't realise until I tried to assemble it. Inlet mani was firm and the ex mani wobbled around. Saying that, extractors still wouldn't be a bad idea. They're going to give you better flow and release some more potential from the sidies. :y: You will still need to check the above when doing this though.
  10. Yeha that would probably be the same stuff I've seen my mates buy in a metre length to cut and drill through to make body lifts in 4x4's. So there's a possible avenue on where to buy it - 4x4 shops. :y:
  11. How the hell did you do that?
  12. Really good. He's just over 4 weeks old now and was weighed in at 1003gm yesterday. Over 1kg :y: Might get moved back to the LGH in another month or so. I personally think the baby bonus in installments is a fantastic idea. You still get the same amount, its just that 'less responsible parents' can't piss it up, gamble it, or spend it all on cars (in our cases  ) in one hit. Also deters the brainless teenages that were having babies just to get the lump sum bonus.
  13. Cool, I'll wait for a reply from him before I rely on it. thanks mate.
  14. and for anybody who wants there own.... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/S...n-215428780.htm Just gotta ship it over the "ditch".
  15. Where they high tensile bolts? Better for it to come disconnected from the diff than the gearbox end!!! The previous owner of my sierra some how managed to break the rear extension housing of the GB (which had the same effect as a broken front uni joint) which let the jack-shaft free. While it was still being turned by the diff it flapped around under the car and tore a rip in the transmission tunnel!!!
  16. Hey All, Just wondering if anybody has an engine stand they wouldn't mind lending me for a week or two? I'd just buy one, but I'm a little strapped for cash with current situations. Maybe thats what I can use the first baby bonus installment for!!! 8/ Did I remember seeing that you bought one Casey????? Cheers, Si.
  17. Yeah they can vary heaps in price depending on what vehicle, age, where you buy them and weather or not you get a trade or "valued customer" discount. I figured if I said $50~ he would be stoked if he walked out of a shop spending less than $20. Remember being in Bursons once and another guy was buying some. Bloke from Bursons said "I can't do them any less than $40 each" and I thought to myself thank god I don't have your car (whatever it was)!!!
  18. Chin up mate, she'll get used to it and get over it. We've just had a our first kid and there been absolutely no mention of me selling 1 of my 5 vehicles!!! Just buy her a new washing machine or something and she'll get off you back for a month or too!! 8/
  19. Yes. They're supposed to be auto adjusting, but its obviously not working properly. Maybe double check (by looking at the other side) that everything is were it should be and theres no springs etc missing or detached, or the thread isn't seized up somehow. If its all hooked up properly and still not working then it can be manually adjusted through a slot in the backing plate. While your there you might want to replace the shoes ($20) and the wheel cylinder too if you're keen around $50-80 depending on how much your parts shop like you. 8/
  20. well there you go, hence the "as far as I know". Now I know for sure. Is this maybe because the '55's actually use a GM auto box I wonder? Cause I don't think a ke30 has a '70 shifter position when it has an auto box. I'll find out and then add all of this info to the FAQ. 8/
  21. Can you see this..... http://video.google.com.au/videosearch?q=3...hl=en&emb=0 ..... in the meantime Philbey?
  22. Love bongos. 8/ Soooo nearly bought one a few years back. Me and a mate were going halves. I was paying for the rotang conversion and he was paying for the 10,000 odd watts or ICE. ......shit happened and we got more intersted in turbo'ing things!!
  23. Yeah forgot to mention.... When I fitted the tacho in the dash I obviously had to do away with the stock fuel and temp guages, as well as the charge and oil lights. Lights are now just under the boost guage, I have a water and oil temp guage and my fuel cell doesn't have a level indicators so I'm all good.
  24. Took me a while to find these...... http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=3sglevin&view=videos I want one. 8/ Anything that goes past clubmans that quick has to be a hell of a lot of fun!!!
  25. You'd want to run atleast 3/8 for your 308 mate. 8/ An engine that size I would probably run 1/2 inch!
