  1. A 5k might be needing a mod plate. 3k's go alright, really no difference in performance to a 4k. The 3k's a bit revvier, the 4k's a bit torquier. Really there is SFA difference between them (unless it is a dished piston 4k which go a bit harder) in std form.
  2. I wouldn't have thought a 4k in a ke20 would be classified as an engine conversion. In Qld it is just an engine change. No mod plate required, just take it to main roads and they note it on their records. I'd check with your authorities though.
  3. If you've got money to burn, invest in something useful.... A pussy snorkel
  4. At higher RPM.
  5. Why would you need a GTI gearbox? Are you converting it to FWD? Probably easiest to go the proven route of a 4age...
  6. Apparently Sierra boxes bolt straight up. They have a separate transfer case. The dizzy is the hardest part, though you can buy right angle adapters. I'd be looking at a torquier motor to start with. A ke70 would be a fair bit heavier than a GTI. Maybe a Vitara 1600 motor?
  7. Good luck. Electric RC planes are one of my hobbies. That brushed motor is only good for around 200watts or 0.2kw.
  8. So what was the deal, camshaft out a tooth? Good to hear you guys got it running.

  10. Cool, yet another one. :bash: You over the ke20's? Trev if you were maybe interested in a type3 squareback, I saw one for sale at East Ippy the other day.
  11. Maybe check out the parts for sale threads on here (they come up from time to time), or ebay.
  12. They are pretty pathetic performancewise, single cam excels are quicker. As others have said, just drive it and save your money to go towards a better car.
  13. I'd be asking myself what do you want? Do you want the best possible performance, or do you want maximum pose potential. If you are after the best all round handling wet or dry go a 185/60... Wider tyres may look tough, but aquaplane more easily in the wet. Tyres are best matched to rimsize. Most tyre manufacturers recommend a 6" rim width for a 185 tyre.
  14. Agreed. Great for the drift kids that can't afford an AE86 though.
  15. The oil filter size has nothing to do with increasing oil pressure. Oil pressure is determined by the bypass spring that is incorporated into the oil pump.
  16. Mmm... RT55's the coolest toyotas ever made. Toyota just went backwards after the 60's.
  17. LOL, some people are touchy. STD's, the gift that keeps on giving.
  18. It isn't that hard. On TDC firing stroke on cylinder 1, both valves should be closed. No 4's valves should be on the rock. ie exhaust closing and inlet opening. Just remember one tooth out = 20 degrees of cam timing out (in relation to the crank). Worry about the dizzy after the cam is setup. Oh yea dialing in a cam involves the use of an adjustable cam gear (or offset keys), a degree wheel and a dial indicator.
  19. Looks like fun... NOT! I think it is a common manufacturing process with euro cars. Euro cars are a pain, wanting to put an amp in my E32 for the front splits, was thinking under the passenger seat which isn't going to happen. There are 4 electric motors plus a shitload of wiring in the way. The drivers seat has the motors plus a computer for the electric seat and mirror memory positions. Man theres computers and fuse/relay boxes and crap spread out through the whole car.
  20. "Phantom Grip" might be what you are after.
  21. Yea possibly. If you were to get pulled over by a main roads vehicle inspection you'd most likely be defected and have to take it over the pits. Gotta love pre-ADR cars.
  22. Mines the same, eats batteries. Actually grabbed it this arv to take a few pics and they were flat. Went to change them and the old batteries had leaked.... They were Duracells. Fortunately after a clean out and some new batteries it still works fine. Meaning to buy a new camera as mine must be 5 years old now.
  23. There's being different, and then there's having taste buds in your ass. This falls into the latter category. :D
  24. With a weber and extractors you only need connections to the carb and manifold for fuel, vacuum advance and the brake booster. Being a post ADR car though, you could get defected for removal of the pollution gear. Legally you are supposed to retain all pollution gear that the car came with. It is your choice though... The carbon cannister is a useful pollution addition that doesn't affect performance.
