  1. Stock 5k has 21cc pistons. Not 8cc which the dude was talking about using.
  2. Also depends if the car still has the original motor. Many don't, and have had bits mixed and matched over the years. During the 90's low kay Jap import k series motors were freely available (and cheap) and were a common option rather than rebuilding the original motor. My ke15 and ke16 have different PCD's and nose center hole sizes on their water pumps. Water pumps aren't really something that follow a set rule.
  3. :abuse: Don't think so. Taz, you are not accounting for the difference in cylinder volumes. 3k=291.5cc, 5k=372cc. If you pulled a head off a 10:1 3k, and threw it on a 5k with 8cc pistons, you'd end up with around 10:1. Same head on a 5k with flat tops would give around 12.5:1. I used Dyno2000 which makes it quick and easy to work out total needed combustion chamber volume to achieve a desired compression ratio.
  4. Herpes? Backpackers? Remember... don't be a fool, cover your tool.
  5. I'd say daggy but kinda cool would be a better description of the ovlov. Like a set of beaten up volleys with toe holes. :D Thinking a Subaru Outback for the next car for the missus within the next year or so. 4 cyl rego, reasonable on fuel, 4wd so surefooted in the wet, and a decent amount of room being a wagon. Oh yea, will need to be a manual and have a towbar to pull the trailer. Jesseb369 I'm still not sure what I want to do with the '16 yet. I'll throw some pics up in the 4sale thread shortly. No big rush to get rid of it.
  6. Will up his rep as a hack driver, and push the gbox kill count up though. Ever think that the dude who comes first, maybe just plain and simple, has more talent?
  7. Valve guides/stem seals.
  8. Blue smoke is burning oil.
  9. :blinks: Yea right. Imagine the billions of dollars of taxes the government would lose out on if everyone gave up smoking and takeaway. They might appear to take the moral high road, but that is all it is... appearances. As for so called car enthusiasts in groups being targeted by cops, well there are plenty of other options. A true motorsport enthusiast will take it to a legal venue, whether that be drag racing at a drag strip, motorkhanas/autocross/rallying/hill climbing through an approved car club, gokarting (both bitumen and dirt track), speedway etc. There are heaps of legal ways to get an adrenalin fix behind the wheel.
  10. You forgot the rattle can flat black paint job. :blinks:
  11. Ratlook.... :blinks: More like a paddock basher/shitter/parts car.
  12. I get the opposite, I often get people of all ages asking me what it is. Most people are surprised when I tell them it is a corolla. The ke15 doesn't have any corolla badges (apart from the sprinter badges) on it which I like, keeps them guessing.
  13. Maybe substitute a set of diff gears out of a locally assembled datsun 120Y (BW diff) into a ke55 BW housing? The 120Y's have the 3.89 gears you are after, and they both share the Borg Warner BW68 type differentials.
  14. Why? The whole point of the upright conversion is for a straighter, smoother intake path for sidedraft carbies. ie. Less flow restriction and more room for filters. Look at the following pic and you can see a couple of obvious flow restriction points.
  15. With the stock 21cc pistons, yes. Not with aftermarket 8cc pistons.
  16. With the shallower dished pistons use a normal flattop 3k or 4k head and skim to desired CR. Keep in mind a stock 5k with 9.5:1 CR has a total combustion chamber volume of 43.71cc (including head, piston dish, and gasket volume). A 5k head (~16cc std) with the 8cc dished pistons gives around 13.5:1 CR. Good for overheating and popping head gaskets. A normal flat top head has around 30-36cc in the head. Head gasket volume is around 5cc from memory.
  17. You want a manifold vacuum source. You could tee into the line to the vacuum booster for your brakes.
  18. Universal High Energy Ignition Kit looks like it would be better suited for a simple upgrade if you are happy to retain your points. FYI I've been running a similar kit for 5-6 years or more with the same set of points.
  19. Smallport 3k's, all 4k's and 5k's share the same valve stem seals. It is the early k and 3k bigport motors with the mongy o-rings for valvestem seals. A half decent 4k in a ke1x will own a 6 cyl falcadore.
  20. It is a 5k Evan, read the first post. ;)
  21. Bosch Ignition Parts GB, GH, and GJ Sigmas and some Bluebirds share the same dizzy cap as the ke55 and ke70 corollas. Notice that points and condensors aren't listed for them. ;) Bosch dizzys are a modular design. A lot of parts are interchangeable between them.
  22. Looks like a 4k Bosch dizzy which has had some of its innards substituted from another car which had a Bosch electronic dizzy. Sigma maybe?
  23. It depends on how the the adjusters are orientated. ie, looking at one axle, you can pull the adjusters out and swap from side to side. One adjuster is right hand threaded, the other left handed.
  24. There is a threaded hole (or two) on the face of the drums. Screw a 10mm (head) bolt in and they pop off real easy. ;)
  25. Think when I adjusted my drums recently I had to turn the adjusters upwards (screwdriver handle down). But then again your adjusters could have been installed the opposite from what mine are.
