  1. when was the last time you changed the oil? and what oil did you put in? and what oil filter do you have in. some oil filters have the anti drain back valvy thing, (no idea which ones, but others might know). my 4k used to do exactly as you describe, i put it down too just being old. just don't rev it when you start it.
  2. nah ill let you research a bit more before i do up a list for a 4age conversion! i hear that "4age into ke70" is the second most google'd term, second only to "sex". if you search for some of my posts from ages ago, I'm fairly sure ive done up a list before...... also check ae86dc, plenty of good info on there.
  3. well i got sidetracked. have just returned with a coffee and a biscuit. Should keep me going for another 2hrs 27mins.
  4. 4age into ke70 costs 4-5k to do it properly. i can itemise if it you like, but there is alot more too it than most people think. I'm not saying sr20 is a bad idea, but you need to be committed. it makes much more sense to sell corolla, buy an s13 for 5k, add a few mods, and you will have a more reliable sr20turbo powered car. also 16V bigport 4age is good fun, but i would be inclined to go for something a bit more powerful if i did another engine conversion. go a smallport 4age as a minimum, 20V would be the way to go for N/A. or go a GZE. all have varying additional costs.
  5. lame thread. Removing interior is stupid on a road car. but now that we are on the topic, i would like the opinion of rollaclub, should i go and make another coffee? i had one 1.5hrs ago. coffee is free, it is only instant coffee, there are also biscuits in the tea room, they are also free. I do need to go to the toilet, maybe i can go to the toilet, then go and make a coffee and get a biscuit. what do you think?
  6. also... 7k-10k is alot of cash to put into a car. so you almost have to do a good job to have any hope of having it lasting and be reliable. no point having $7k worth of project car sitting in your front yard, that never drives and always broken, because you did a half assed job.
  7. depends how much you like electronics..... you could run the spark using a cheap ECU? an MS1 mega squirt is like $150 in kit for these days. figure out something for a Crank angle sensor (cheap cheap), then you can run whatever ignition curve you want. but getting the thing re graphed is probably the most sensible option....
  8. no dramas. we put a ca18det into my mates ae86 a few yrs ago, did pretty much everything DIY (found a few good parts along the way to make life easier) it was a rocket to drive. and it was pretty much a stock engine with a bit of extra boost. unfortunately all CA18's are stuffed these days, and require rebuilds. one day i'm going to do a proper sr conversion into something old and light. as much as i hate to admit it, the SR is a brilliant engine, the power it can make for bugger all mods is great.
  9. you don't need the whole halfcut though to put it into your ke70. if you were going to be transfering it into a silvia, then i woudl suggest a halfcut. but in a ke70 you are going to be throwing most of the half cut in the bin. you dotn need powersteering stuff, aircon, intercooler pipes etc. you only need engine and gearbox, ecu and loom, the rest is custom made. given you are a noob, ill give you a quick starter list on what you need to consider. -engine, gearbox, ecu, loom - if you go an early redtop SR, id budget around $1300-1500, if you go a late model black top, expect 2000-2500 (especially if you go the s15 6 speed) -engine/gearbox mounts - if you can weld, can be very cheap, if you have to get someone else to do it, expect about $500-600 -wiring engine - DIY quite easy, paying someone $300 maybe. -intercooler piping, DIY easy (buy exhaust bends, weld it up), paying someone, could be $500 -exhaust, something decent, about $600 -tailshaft, custom made,400 -differential, if you go and mod an R31 diff, with an aftermarket LSD, expect upwards of $2500k for the conversion -fuel system, full surge tank setup, $300-400 -hydraulic clutch system (either an ae71 pedal box, or custom) - allow say $200 now onto suspsension and brakes. sooooo many options here, but i would be allowing $1000-1500 for suspension, and $1000 for brakes, assuming you go for brand new/overhauled stuff where you can. now add all that up you get about $7k paying people do to stuff, probably $5 DIY most of it, and add %50 (10k or 7.5K) and that is about how much its going to cost to do the job properly. you really need to research alot for something like this, understand what options there are, and make your decisions based on your budget, your needs, your skill level. good luck eh. if you do everything i stated well, do a good job you will have one wicked car to drive. have a look at NISROLA's build thread for inspiration, not a ke70, but a sweet sr20 conversion.
  10. sweeet another corona quad user! very nicely done mate. love the paint. i think you had better take some photos outside somewhere, show off that paint work!
  11. haha i was a little confused...... i got the 3 way adjustable 27mm one. cause everyone knows that if its adjustable...its better. why i hear you ask? it just is.
  12. pending my recovery from having 4 wisdom teeth removed on the 29th....count me in. assuming you will allow a dirty nissan to come along! that micra is bloody awful.
  13. sounds like an intake air temp sensor. if you are hell bent on putting a pod filter in, just put that temp sensor somewhere near the pod. i hope your going to run a cold air intake to your pod, or you may go backwards in performance!
  14. yeah not the same as the one i bought. But yeah i could have got it off ebay for about 250-260 delivered. but my paypal account is playing up atm (i got hacked a while ago...), and i don't mind going to a shop if i can just pick it up on the way home etc, and i have a spare Saturday to install it this weekend, so i wanted it asap, not waiting for money to clear or slow postage etc.
  15. supercheapauto... go in on Saturday, order an adjustable whiteline sway bar for the s15. only reason i go to sueprcheap is my mate has a trade card, 10% off. i order it, and am told i must pay more than 50% upfront (special order, expensive item etc), i say fare enough. EFTPOS 100% of item, total of $293.00. all good, walk out reasonably happy with my purchase. get a call yesterday, they can't get the part. their suppliers are unable to supply it. and all they can offer is a refund. why? they don't know. they RECOMMEND i try autobahn, which is the shop next door. weird how a shop next door can get the part, yet they can't. "Everything auto and much much more"....my ass! So i have to leave work early, drive down to the shop (40mins from work), and get my refund. they can only give me cash refund, so now i have $293 cash in my wallet and no swaybar. and wasted a good 1hr driving around in traffic yesterday arvo to collect formentioned cash. i ring up bursons today, i ordered it over the phone, it will be here Thursday. i haven't paid anything yet. and its only $267 (with no discount card) i can see why people are boycotting shops and buying online!
  16. haha that bus video was awesome.
  17. Just buy a recaro, super comfy!
  18. a minisule amount of air that contains unburnt fuel, coming out right next to your hot exhaust.... i think that will matter. thats called a bomb!
  19. those photos make it look pretty horrible. just a late model celica with a different front end.
  20. sorry matty, not a fan of that corona at all:P this is pretty: http://www.comp.co.uk/gallery/pics/FORD%20ESCORT%20MK1%20MEXICO%20ML1580%208X15.JPG prolly cost $12k for a rusted out standard one these days.
  21. superpro available....everywhere.
  22. hehe. i have 2 brand new (or very close to, look pretty good to me.) 12a housings in my garage. along with a polished front cover. ive had them for years, and i would love to build up a turbo 12a and put it into something old and classic.... really annoy the purists. 2 door datsun might be the choice;) given the ridiculous amount of awesome aftermarket parts available for the 1600/510 cars.
  23. ah cool. so long as its not recognisable as "ke70daves old ke70" thats fine my me! peter is a great guy. seemed incredibly genuine. and his white ae86 is beautiful!
  24. well i bought an s15 in November last year. so sort of dirty nissan .....with the intent of turning the ke70 into more of a track car, but i just didn't have the time:( and the poor blue car was just sitting there wasting rego as i never really drove it at all. the s15 has absolutely no character though, where the ke70 was full of character. that's what i'm going to miss about the ke70 the most i think! to be honest id like to start another project, but maybe something a bit more classic. ke70 was cool, but nothing really special (no offence all you ke70 owners!). if i could get my hands on a 2-door datsun 510 that would be sweet, or maybe an old 260z? something with some cool classic lines..... even an old ford cortina maybe? escort would be cool also. and it would be the kind of project where i would do it all properly, spend 4 weeks on painting, not 4 days. since the ke70 never came off the road for more than 1 week in 5yrs, all the work i did on it was always quick, would have been nice to spend more time and make it perfect. unfortunately at this stage project cars are out, as not much room at my current rental, and fairly sure I'm not allowed unregistered cars anyway. thanks mate, i think i bought a good percentage of the parts off you for this thing! no real name as such..... i always refered to it as "the ke70" or "the blue car", or back when it wasn't painted "poo car" or "poo ke70".... when i first met my girlfriends mum, she called it "the old blue car", and i quickly snapped back, "more like 'awesome blue car'"....so 'awesome blue car' sort of stuck in that family.
  25. lets just make one thing clear here.....dyno readings CANNOT be compared to other dyno readings or factory quoted figures. well they can, but are potentially +/- 25% or even more different. use them as a ball park figure to check if you are getting about the right amount of power, but 180-220 is what, 20% difference? thats pretty close. there are just to many variables. there are heaps of settings inside the dyno, that know one ever really considers when quoting figures, i don't even know them all...but if they aren't all set to be the same, you will get different readings on two identical dynos next to each other. dynos are used to make comparisons ON THE DAY for tuning purposes. do a run, change some stuff, do another run, check the AFR's, make sure it actually made more power COMPARED to the previous run, repeat this process untill you find the optimal settings that produce the most power ON THE DAY ON THAT DYNO. then lock up the ECU and your done. you can't then take the car across town to a completely different dyno, and expect the readings to be exactly the same.....
