the last time i cleaned up a block ready for a head, i spent about an hour with a razor blade and some metho peeling all the crap off the top of the block (mainly remnants of the old gasket). not sure id be too keen on bringing an angle grinder anywhere near an alloy head though, wanna be a soft wire brush thats for sure:P

did the gasket blow in the same place as last time? also get yourself a straight edge (decent metal ruler) and put it across the top of your head and shine a torch from one side, that will tell if its warped or not. light will come under the ruler if there is a gap. in my oppinion your best off getting the head checked everytime you take a head off (with the intention of putting it back on...), unless you know for sure that its not stuffed. it only takes a very small warp to lose a bit of pressure on the gasket, and pop goes another headgasket! also how great is it that you can pull a k motor head off in like 25mins....

i was fairly convinced you were talking about a steering box! and wondered why a corsa would have a steering box! but yeah muffler, just take it to an exhaust shop, and if they say they can't do it....they suck. go to the next exhaust shop! twinky has it right, just a few minuites with a welder and an angle grinder and a few rubber ring mounts and you'll be away again.

yeah definately sounds like a calibration problem. if you are getting the signal to change with the positing of the throttle, then as mr taz said just a matter of calibrating it. .....Hopefully!!

oh i like that. what amazes me, is surely a good percentage of people in politics are somewhat inteligent. can they not see the flaws? or is there something they arent telling us..... damn i need to buy a real cheap car quick, then when ive saved up for a brand new turbo 1 series BMW, get my $2k.

heey that mx73 lip looks sweet, not seen that before, i like it. the 4afe isnt a bad engine in standard form, but just remember its a 1.6L economy based engine, though the efi will make it run nicely. if you want to get keen on the engine, a cold air induction will help things a bit, but i wouldnt expect miracles.

saw a bloke with a R33 skyline GTS-T.....with a GTR badge on the back....

to be honest i can see why the cop would think it would be "totally defective" hehe. got a nice list of parts there. is the chassis straight?

just had a read mate! this car is fantastic!! when/if i have kids, they are soo getting a PROPERLY modded car. i love that airbox, and how youve got that huge filter in there. very nice design. i wonder why you never see such a thing on 4age's with quads? i guess the brake booster is in the way a bit. interested to see how that jaycar air/fuel thing goes, how do you calibrate it? ill have to look into it..

correct saw it on monday night. very very good movie. i don't enjoy many movies, but this one was quite excelent.

geez v8 in a ke10? that will like double the weight of the car! go all out, go on...buy a millington diamond. still 4clr, 2.5L, and make your car so so fast. (cost a bit though...)

heres soemething that is lame, but is currently grinding my gears. I'm at work, and i just remembered a cool song (karma-1200 Techniques) so of course i look over to my ipod and start scrolling up the list to the top where i would have almost put money on the fact that i had that song. but alas its not there :jamie: oh yeah but on a real topic, the current leaders of labor and liberal. That is all.

copper on the other hand is worth scrapping! my dad is a marine electrician, and he has a drum in the workshop where he throws all the excess wire in there. every few months goes down to the scrap hard, gets a few bucks, maybe $30 each trip? not bad for something that you would normall throw away. you should give these guys a ring http://www.southerncrossmetalrecyclers.com.au/index.html get some real prices! you wont find prices on websites, because the prices are variable. so id say they change each day etc.
-
just have to be careful that you don't get a set of roof racks that make a phenominal noise at 100km/h.... dad has some aftermarket ones on his hilux, and anything over 80km/h and the noise is incredible. gota take them off and only put them on when he wants to actually put anything on them. his are just basic square section design, where as some of these newer ones are shaped like an aerofoil....though not sure 2 aerofoils on the roof would suit a ke70:P

nice post sandshoe, Problem is, the politicians prolly don't know what ethanol is let alone what is involved in converting a car to accept it. "taking old cars off the road" is easy, very easy. and like you say, makes it look like they are doing things. when in fact they arent, they are meerly offering to give back a miniscule percentage of the rediculous tax money that is collected. i think one of the main problems is that politicians are only looking 3yrs in advance, do just enough work to ensure that they are voted in the next election. so funny/frustrating to see the ramp up of road works close to an election, who are they trying to fool? id like to see a political party, come up with a proper say 50 yr plan, infrastructure, water, sewerage, cars, whatever, but of course why would they? when the next election is only 3yrs away. Funnily enough we were just talking about this stupid cash for clunkers scheme in the lunch room, had a good laugh thats for sure. though my mate was pretty happy as his old falcon is not even worth $2000, but he'd happily take $2k for it. oh yeah i tried ethanol fuel in the 4age once, by mistake, damn thing did not like it one bit.

that polo is cool! I'm heading up to caloundra on friday night to check out the super special stage. that polo gonna be running there? ill look out for it.

as bad as wiki is as a source, but its all i can find atm, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Prius#Fuel_consumption mentions numbers from about 4.7-5.7. so yeah i guess its closer to 4L than 6L. and in aus there is alot of highway driving, so i can only assume the milage would get a bit worse? i dunno. all i know is that i like that new ford fiesta econetic diesel, gets something rediculous like 3.6L/100km, and thats just a normal diesel engine, no stupid batteries or fancy electric engines. light weight is the key to fuel economy. but hey thats just my oppinion. to bad the econetic is rediculosuly expensive, like 23k or something? oh and it would be BLOODY SLOW. but hey you can't go fast and not use any fuel!

my understanding is that a lifecylce analysis on a prius reveals that the energy saving of the prius will never out weigh the extra embodied energy associated with building the car. so overall the prius uses more energy (and thus carbon yada yada) over its lifetime, but the media will never look at that... funny thing is the prius only gets ~6L/100 or so, small diesels kill that....and arent some of you blokes with 4k ke70s getting close to 6L/100? i was listening to great debate the other night, and both sides of politics were just talking utter bullcrap on almost all topics. they are just trying to win votes. complete misinformation on almost all topics. damn i hate the way politicians go on, all talk no action, and in general the talk is utter garbage. why arent there any knowledgeable people running the country? say scientists that understand what they are talking about? not just being fed information through filtered sources, and had it worded in such a way as to be pleasing to the ears of the ignorant voters? hmmm....

hey dude sorry forgot to reply to your sms, was busy with my hunk of junk till late......and its still not back on the road. the windows look great, good to see them in a car. yeah they looked really dark, was annoyed i couldnt use them. glad you can use them!

not a bad idea i guess, older cars in the general public are not very well maintained. there are exceptions of course, but in general if you see an older car its usually pumping out smoke. and then there is all the emissions you can't see i guess.. funnily enough i see alot of mid 90's cars (especially excels) pumping out smoke....mmm quality. though it would take alot more than $2k for me to give up the ke70. $4500USD though, now that is a bit more tempting $2k isnt that much when you start talking about newer cars, cheapest new car is what...a hyundai getz? at like $14k? so thats about 14% of the cost.

theres only one microswitch on the hand brake module. there should be one single wire that connects to it. which runs under your carpet the wire is put to ground when you either pull the handbrake up, or release it. unsure which one, but yeah its just a switch on the lever.

haha sweet pic man! just need to photoshop out that supra, and photoshop in the rest of your tailgate. just read through your thread. really like your car. must go alright with the mods you go there. i like what you did on your swaybar, good to see some innovation!

if something is "coold" does that make it good? thanks for the comments. surge tank i got from...a website called "tweakit" about 90$ i think. hmm yeah my camber tops are in good condition, thats what i thought it was too. but on inspection they are nice and tight. spherical bearings look pretty schmick. this rattle is fairly bad, to the point where at first i thought it was my wheel that was rattling, figured i musnt have done up the wheel nuts, but they were nice and tight... ill rip the strut out (again...) tomorrow arvo, and pull it down, and get the damn thing so tight it wont know what hit it....

well for me my pay has been somewhat irregular over the last year (uni student working when i can) so some weeks i would earn heaps and get taxed heaps, other weeks i would earn not alot, and not get taxed alot either. i just did my tax last night, expecting about 1200 bucks back, forced saving if you will. but i don't see how its a problem to "thank tax time" for the lump sum of money. maybe the system is flawed, but its what we have to live with. and when i go and buy something with my tax money (some new wheels and tyres are looking good), i have no problem in saying "thanks tax time". and whats with the "new members trying their best" ??? I'm a relatively old member compared to some (3yrs more than blzbub666) but young compared to others....I'm looking at you teddy, and I'm happy to say: 'yeah can't wait to get some new wheels, thanks tax time!'
