  1. Clearly the guy is looking to get his hands on his old setup.... I'm guessing if he wanted to build a new one, he would just.... build a new one.
  2. wanting.... i meant Wantirna haha. Close enough to rowville!
  3. this is like a duet. The philb coln duet. Phil collins duet?? I also run hydro, it's big, it's aggressive and I didn't muck around with lame duck compression like 9.8:1. I went 11.5:1, loads of lift and overlap. And I never have to gap tappets. Ever.
  4. Traction Tyres are good operators but they're a fair way from Carnegie, out near wanting if I recall.
  5. keep those updates rolling!
  6. The spring chop is the wrong fix. It ups the rate and these don't run a lot of preload anyway, you will possibly choke bypass flow. I don't think 80PSI at high revs (?) is an issue, filters will be rated to 100-150psi. Check to see if it has bulged out, if not I wouldn't worry about it. I would at least get the head looked at to check runout on it every time I pull it off, alloy heads warp easily. As for timing, just checking that you don't have too much advance, this could cause issues. Again, I would definitely check plugs before spending big dosh on an O2 Sensor unit. that setup will be 250-300 by the time you get it here. That will only really tell you if it's running lean and at what revs. Then how do you fix it anyway? You'll probably get a dyno tuner to do it!! You can get a good indication of how the tune is from the plugs, then for 250-300 a dyno tuner will dial it in, set it all up and off you go.
  7. Shortening the spring will increase the spring rate and still result in high oil pressure.
  8. Forget the o2 sensor for now. Google how to read spark plugs and perform the most cursory check there is for lean mixtures. Spending 300 on a wideband is a luxury not a necessity right now. Thatgauge will still require a wide and sensor and the right controller. The wrecker won't have these. Narrow band is probably less useful than reading your plugs. A couple of key questions. Have you had it dyno tuned? What timing are you running? If you have pulled the head a couple of times, are you getting it planed? A warped head will kill gaskets And lastly, have you identified the failure point on the gasket each time? Can be hard to do with a fresh blowout, but it would be important to see if it's in the same place each time.
  9. Could you be a little more specific. Does it actually start? Is it starting and running poorly? Timing won't change randomly like that without external influences. Also, poor timing will still start and run, albeit badly. Did it actually fire when you sprayed stuff down it.
  10. Was this abbots old car?
  11. Just port the 5k for 150 I had my ports matched to my sidedraft mani and head planed. They ended up bigger than a 3kbp anyway.
  12. I run 11.5:1 or thereabouts on the standard ACl jobs. No problems. I had it dynoed so the tune is good. I also support filfderricks comments, beefing the head gasket up isn't actually addressing the problem, it's really just sweeping the problem under the carpet.
  13. DOubles will just last longer. You won't see any extra gains or performance, and you'll probably get 100k krs out of a single row anyway.
  14. The worst thing about TV in the bedroom is that you'll inevitably fall asleep with it on and get the worst night's sleep as a result. Might have to get one of those aero-boxes for my GTI for the full eurospec look...
  15. DUDE, let me get this straight.... you will get rid of your big one (loungeroom) and put a small one in the bedroom? Biggest mistake you'll ever make. Take it from a TV hater.
  16. The main reason for more grunt out of the 3KB will be the compression ration, plain and simple. Alleged 10:1 vs the 4Ku 9:1. There is no point sourcing a 4Ku block over the other blocks. It is the same block, with the same bore and stroke. The only difference for the 4KU is the dished pistons, which will render your 3K head useless. 3K bigport heads are overhyped and suffer 'talk it up' syndrome If you're really keen on a 4K buy a good clean running one, pop the head off and have some work done. Up the compression slightly planing it and get the it port matched to your manifold, it will likely cost only 150. You probably need to spend that much on your 3KB head anyway. 5K's rev, anyone who says otherwise is talking guff. The reason they feel less revvy is because they've got a rubbish distributor advance curve suited to vans and the like
  17. Go out and buy yourself a 5k,get the 5k head ported to match your manifold and bolt it.onto.that
  18. The last two I got were $100
  19. Hey mate, good progress in spite of the knee! Just wondering, how do you find the dremel cutting discs for steel? I love my dremel but i had my doubts about them being any good for panels. Do you go through bucketloads of them?
  20. Yeh even the KE20s had collapsible units, so you should be fine.
  21. wait up a second, I'm confused by the last post.... Who is taking the pi55 out of Microsoft? Edit - I see now, PS4 announced. Yes!
  22. All I can say is yes, don't buy cheap crap. On The other hand, I wouldn't go buying miller or Lincoln, the Yankee machines are too overpriced. Now I will say, look into the Token Tools units. Sure, they're built to aprice, but 5 year warranty and from all reports their Australian support is very good. Their tigs are a bit plain Jane but more robust build than the cig or boc units. I had two pipe welders working for me running the token ac dc and a dc caddy. They were welding 100-250 mild and stainless pipe, not problems with these token units, and hed be running the caddy for about 4 years, no problem. His only issue was e standard hoses and fittings were a bit cheap but easily fixed.
  23. yeh that's the thing, you still need to mod your oil pump, sump, engine mounts, shifter and cross members before you get uprighted. Plus carbies. As for the aussies being shit broke, somehow I don't think so but hey, far be it from me to argue with ya!
