The best thing I ever did at uni was quit. I was not willing to become pale and work indoors my whole life. I do not regret the fun times I had, or even the time I spent. It lead me to a clear decision. I always knew my technical aptitude was decent, but felt I should go to Uni at age 20 after I did some other more interesting things that were more passion than career. One was photography, one was skateboarding. I hated the uni, I didn't have to commute or travel, It was cheap to do, and I had a job at a Skateshop so I had a nice little life going but I just had to get out of the uni. Once I considered my options I decided to get a cabinetmaking apprenticeship. This took about 4 weeks. I was older, 21 by now and really wanted to do it. I worked hard, was never group training, and I had to move around a lot due to shady bosses and idiots that I couldnt stand working with (carrying). i worked at 4 places over a total of 3 years and one month and walked away qualified. I was so keen to finish I completed 8 weeks of TAFE in 8 days. Its amazing what being motivated can do. Id give some advice if you are going into the building industry. don't trust any employer when it comes to money, super, holiday loading and appropriate conditions. I was scammed by 2 of the 4 employers. The only real decent guy was the last one, but we were just 2 completely opposite people, we didnt exactly clash, but I just didnt feel at home there. Do not sign up to any group training organisation. There are a million reasons why. If you really wanna be on a broom for 4 full years then go right ahead. If you do not make an immediate impact at a workplace (in a good way) your days will be numbered there and they wont bother to train you well or put any real interest into you. Sign up to a private employer, expect that he will rip you off. don't be afraid to move jobs, ask for more responsibility/training and work hard. Make bets with your boss, I found this was a good way to make extra income. When I was an apprentice, I was able to supplement my income some weeks by betting the boss I could do things by a certain time. $100 bucks is a lot when your on 6.10 an hour. Lastly, do not whinge, do not moan, do not complain openly about your pay at work. Everyone pays their dues. Its a certainty that the moment you open your mouth to whinge about the 6.10 you get each hour, the nearest tradesman will say, oh yeah, well I got 4.10 when I was an apprentice so STFU. They don't go handing out trade certificates to any one.

Bigports love cams. Its pretty cheap compared to 20v camshaft swap once you have the ecu. Sounds like you should go for a bigger motor.

As the video proves its not just me dealing with Toyota factory rust. I wanted tunes last night. So in went the old CD player and I decided to be neat about it so I made my own wiring plugs just like Toyota. I will run power feeds sometime soon so that I can hook up the vidigauge too. Its all gonna fit where the old radio used to. Shift lights and all.

Thanks David. I sort of want to have it all pretty tight within 2 weeks. Might play with the vidigauge next. Should be nice. I really just want to hook up an o2 sensor and see what it says. I noticed that the little tin cover somone made to block off the 02 sensor hole in the headers leaks a bit, so I will probably just chuck an o2 sensor in there. I'm missing music too, but my rule is I don't install a stereo till I'm satified mechanically. Sorting out all the little noises takes time, rattles, securing things that flap round with wind etc.

Further to this I would replace ground cables and resand the connections. At the very least remove the old ones and see if the current has been arcing through the grounds.

Ive measured them, the hilux bar is like an enlarged version. Longer, a bit taller and much heavier.

I rolled a shocky through the gap to fold the lip and that just tore open. Seems it was some metal, some bog and a whole lot of bitumuen body deadener. No Biggie. They will be beaten out and rewelded soon enough. Probably just a few more weeks and I can get the 15x8 southernways on all round.

I have fixed this problem before with a new clutch master, mine was leaking and when I swapped it the squeaky noise stopped. I can't really explain why, but this worked for me. I replaced it because it was leaking, and the loss of the squeaky noise was a nice bonus.

Yet more fine tuning has been done, and its been so rewarding. Brad came over today and switch a wire to stop the motor cutting on the windscreen washer. I swapped from the Silvertop style throttle linkage to the blackstop style. Its firmer under foot, smoother and has less play thanks to the fewer moving parts. Its so much better its like night and day. Then I adjusted the bonnet so it sits completely firm and doesnt vibrate. Also played with the throttle rest adjustment. Ive got it idling well under the 1650rpm it used to, most likely around 1000rpm. I also played with the idle air bypass screws by feel since they were completely removed when I cleaned the throttles in the parts washer. I just didnt hesitate or overthink it, just put a hand on the motor and smoothed it right out. The most effective thing that I did was adjust then recalibrate the tps sensor. Once the map was reset it became a completely different animal, its crisp and its almost not in need of tuning. I still will, however, since it will be such a simple exercise.

If your a qualified anything and being paid under $20 an hour, you are shit at what you do. Bearing in mind what you do is look for the best place to work and do it well. Nobody has a gun to your head saying work for that kind of crap money. Youd be better off working for yourself.

Nobody (except you) seems to care if you are right or wrong, just accept the information and don't try to make personal excuses, its undignified. We are all here to learn and all wrong and right at different times. Its a good opportunity for you to wrap your head around it instead of saying (allow me to paraphrase) "I may be wrong but I might give it some thought later". Just read it, think about it and learn it. Its dead simple, and its better to think about something and understand it before you go correcting people. Opinions are a different matter entirely, as they are not governed by the laws of the physical world. This concept is. So you will run 320mm rotors that actually require 17s? Most corolla relevant brake upgrades are able to fit in 14s or 15s. (and will still look a bit odd in a 16 or 17). Yes you feel a large difference in driving with a large rolling diameter. 1. slowness. 2. smoothness. 3. lower rpm at a given speed limit, might even get to use a different gear in some situations. Its quite a good dynamic change for certain applications. It will also raise the vehicle of course.

Thank you gents, thats the goal, tidy and stock at first glance. He went and painted it flat black i don't know why but I don't really care, its less noticeable and I'm happy how smooth the diff bend is this time, however its a tiny bit too smooth, its just able to clip the panhard rod at the top of the rear left suspension travel. ive been meaning to dial in more compression damping, so I will try that. See if it slows its up travel. I will have to lower the front 5mm too.

Might want to check your facts and assumptions there. If the mass of both vehicles is the same, and the same amount of power is used to rotate the axle, the car with the smaller rolling diameter will accellerate faster (assumng everything else is the same). Its the same effect as going from a tall diff gear to a lower ratio. If you could explain where the magical extra power comes from to turn the axle I'd be really keen to find out. You will have a higher theoretical top speed with a taller diff ratio (which is what your google buddy calculators are telling you), but you will get there slower. You need to strike a balance to achieve the best result for your application. For example, a lot of people with 4 speed street driven dailys may opt for a slightly taller diff ratio to take some burden off of the engine and slow its rpm at 100klm/hr. This will increase fuel economy, and slow the possible accelaration. Tha same car being set up for drag will have a fairly short ratio by comparison to maximise acceleration so that the car hits its top speed after no more than 395m if possible.

Its more responsive from low revs and it still pulls hard at top. Feels much solider than before. Much nicer to drive. Its not like its got 312s and massive lift to flow for, its a stock head with 256? duration cams. No need to get too carried away with peak figures on this type of setup. They had 4-2-1s from the factory...

The thing goes great with the new exhaust. Its running a tune that had a different sized exhaust, different headers, different size throttles and different trumpets but f@$k it goes good. I can highly recommend going to 2 inch pipe even on a press bent exhaust. It so grunty now. Exactly what I had hoped, and with a tune it can only get better! There was a dyno day on next to the exhaust shop, I was tempted to drop in and see how many kw it made.

If you are thinking you will use flat or round extrusion, its not billet. Billet generally refers to carving something from a solid block of metal. Anyhow, smart aluminium, capral, etc... There are online catalogs that will give accurate sizes ad specs. I have a mate here with the skills to make one, he was thinking about doing one for the ae71...
