  1. Did you match the kit to the model number on the carb? One of the screws on top of the carb has a little plate with the model stamped on it.
  2. Wow thanks for your input. Yes it bogs down on acceleration. Tomorrow I’ll go to the wrecker and hunt another throttle plate (or whatever it’s called) maybe the hole carb. Failing that I’ll just drive the car off a cliff with me still in it coz it’s driving me nuts. Or invest in a 32/36 or side draft.
  3. Ok well the primary throttle shaft on my ASIAN 3k carb has a bit of play. Now if the engine is off and I pump the accelerator so the pump jet is squirting you can see fuel starts to seep past the throttle shaft on the outside of the carb. Is this normal? I’m wandering if this could be the cause of the stumble on acceleration? Whether the engine is idling or at any rpm, when I push the accelerator down the engine drops revs before increasing revs/ acceleration. In some cases the engine could stall. This is seriously hindering performance and I’ve tried every thing I can think of to fix it. Carby kit, clean carb, adjusting idle mixture, timing, plugs & leads, filters, compression test, manifold & exhaust leaks ect. Even put in a new head gasket but none of this helped. Anyone? I’m going insane. I’m going to hunt down another throttle plate anyway just to be sure.

This sounds interesting but I’m not 100% sure what you’re talking about. Would you care to elaborate please?

Those engine specs sound good. Like the wheel and tire combo too. Kind of muscle car look. Reminds me of this car.
  6. Didn’t realize this thread was Feb 2008.
  7. P.S Thanks for the help guys. Just to let ya know my intentions for the engine. Max power and speed! You see, my good friend George has a 13b mild port with 48 weber in his Capella. He thinks “If it aint a rota it aint a motor”. Another mate has an EG Civic type R. He say’s “I change gears at 9 grand”, “V-tec this and V-tec that”. I just feel the 4age is the mighty engine everyone forgot about and want to give them a run for their money. Can’t go turbo coz this is an NA battle. Wanna do some drifting too. I’ll make a project thread soon.
  8. Hmmm didn’t think of that Philbey. Thanks. 16v heads have 2 X 3cm inlet valves. Total area of 14cm squared. 20v heads have 3 X 2.6cm inlet valves. Total area of 16cm squared. 20v must make power higher in the rev range than 16v? Yes I think to 42mm ST throttles will do nicely. Think I’ll go Small Port though. Not seeing any benefit of the Big Port when the throttle area is smaller than the port area. You see I need to decide which head coz they both need a recon.
  9. Nice! 200+ horse power in a ~700kg car = Lots of fun! And from a K motor. Love ya work.
  10. Thanks Kiahn Wanted to use my Big Port head and go all out. Already got some silver top throttles. As you say might be too small. The biggest issue I thought was that the port area on the Big Port was actually bigger than the area of the 42mm throttle. So like might be choking flow. Anyway might just use ‘em on my Small Port head. Wishing I had waited for some BT’s now.
  11. Hi. I have a 4age 16v big port head I was considering putting Silver Top ITB’s on. Although after measuring the area of the inlet port v’s the throttle area it seems that the 42mm throttle area is smaller than the big port inlet port area. I’m just wandering if this would choke the head of its flow capabilities. Now I’m no mathematician so my calculations could be wrong. But this is to the best of my knowledge. Port area: Area of Big Port inlet ports = 14.93cm squared Area of Small Port inlet ports = 10.68cm squared Throttle area: Area of Silver Top throttle = 13.85cm squared Area of Black Top throttle = 15.90cm squared I measured the diameter of the ports with veneer calipers about 1cm inside them. I’m thinking ST throttles would suit Small Port heads and BT throttles (45mm) would suit Big Port heads.
  12. Have ya done the old tap tap on the side of the starter with spanner or hammer? Sometimes the brushes just need replacing.
  13. Would a black top head be much of an upgrade?
  14. Woosh or no woosh. This car is mad. Have you considered quad throttle bodies in N/A form? My mates Datto 1600 SR turbo is a barrel of fun on boost. Just wander what a high revving N/A SR would go like.
  15. Yeah which electrodes Trav? And what’s with the lime dude? I’m looking at waving the welder at my diff. I got an arc welder and a spare diff center that’s buggered to practice on. One thing that sucks about a locker is the under steer around corners. I just brought a ae71 that’s got a locker. Only driven around the block a couple time and it’s pretty weird. Side ways so easy but not sure yet if the amount of under steer will be a problem. It’s like it tries to push the car straight when cornering.
  16. As long as there captive there alright though aren’t they? (ie short stroke struts) I’m liking this project. Will tear tires to smithereens. Don’t 18rg’s have a pretty short stroke? Should rev high then right?
  17. We all need to find a balance. Cars/hobbies can consume us sometimes. On the other hand others need to understand our passion. It’s an age old problem. You’ll work it out mate. Good on ya for not giving up.
  18. Dude whats going on? Did ya crash the car? Loose ya licence? Whats up man?

You’re living the dream man! I’ve always wandered. How much horsepower can those dyno’s read? What I mean is, can you strap a top fuel dragster to one? Most I’ve seen is about 2000hp.
  20. Did any one find a cure for the caliper/ sway bar issue? I remember someone saying they mounted the calipers the other way round but didn’t see any evidence. Then someone said they had adjustable control arms but again no evidence. Longer control arms would be cool coz there’d be more room between the caliper and sway bar plus the extra camber would come in handy. Does anyone else find they wear the outside edge of the front tires on ke10? I’m guessing it’s because I’m always strapping it round corners and don’t have enough camber.
  21. Here he is. Check out what happens to rusty at the end. It’s funny as. But remember kids Just joking. Thanks for the info on struts. Set my mind at rest.
  22. Do you have any links to the YouTube vids of rusty. Obviously the purple interior is just a bit of fun. Some people don’t have a sense of humor. I like what Master P said “they hurt’n and I’m alright my n%$*a” I’m trying to decide on 86 or Corona struts for the ae71. Why did ya choose Corona?
  23. Well each to his own but the dudes name is E70driftpig so I’m guessing he’s building a drift pig or at least into drifting. And it looks like most of the suspension is sorted which is probably the major part in a kE70 build. KE70’s are like a cult car for drifters made famous by there cheap and effectiveness. IMO this rusty old Ksev’s is tuff as it gets. Look’n pretty is for girls.
  24. I got 46mm long as apposed to my big port 60mm long if that’s the measurement you’re after. Are all small ports the same?
