  1. If you keep it for just a couple of years they will all be getting driving licences and you will need it then!
  2. Gav your diff doesn't move sideways as that is working against the wide width of the springs. They resist sideways forces very well and only the spring hangars twist. They're prone to windup under acceleration and braking, so they axle tramp easier. The Ke70 has coils, so there is nothing to stop sideways movement except that panhard rod. You can stop the diff moving from side to side in its arc as it moves up and down by swapping the panhard rod for a Watts linkage. mitch-12 has one fitted.
  3. The answer to having the rear end step out (which I've also had happen in a FWD on a wet road) is to accelerate. That way you keep the nose in front of the tail.... People don't, because it takes balls, its un-natural to go faster when you want to stop, and it takes practice. So when your FWD slides out everyone is just a passenger from that moment on, its just that some are holding a steering wheel. I'd include most racing drivers in this, there seem to be very few who can drift a FWD happily. That's why I drive RWD.
  4. Lol!! Love it! Is this giving you a hint about the way you treat cars?? I'm not familiar with working on the AE92, but that suggests the front crank ol seal has gone. and dos this mean oil on the clutch to make it slip?? So the rear crank ol seal has gone too. Sounds like a new clutch and replace both seals, you'll only know when you pull it all apart. ..and some driving lessons at a racing driver's school!!
  5. Nah- they've lowered the bar. The endless hunt for more and more things to harass us over, fine us over, make us behave as they want us to... Its just a power trip from those in power. They know they could stop it all if they wanted to. Governors on cars that won't let us go over 40kph, even go back to a man with a red flag walking in front of each car. Sounds inpractical and inefficient, but so are most they laws they pass. They will continue the push to get us out of private cars altogether, its part of a bigger picture that sees us all living in giant apartment blocks in cities and using public transport while the green forestland outside is a playground for our masters....
  6. I bought a kit from the local clutch shop for $75! New plate, pressure plate & release bearing. Couldn't believe it was so cheap.
  7. Could be a lot of things... Welcome to the world of engine conversions! Do you have a wiring diagram of both cars? The whole AE86 workshop manual is up on the web, and I found the KE70 wiring diagram up there somewhere too. I have them lying around I think. Once you have both you can figure out where they join up, which won't be too bad if the 4AGE is still on carbs
  8. Here- http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/53287-4k-motor-few-other-bits/page__pid__541369#entry541369 Make an offer on a 4K that was up for $300. That's your starting point.
  9. As far as I know all of the K motors run on the same wiring, gearbox and diff unless they are fuel injected. The wiring for the motor is dead simple, and any later emission stuff added can usually be removed. There are differences in the length of the gearboxes, so a later (longer) 5speed gearbox will need the gearlever hole moving or the rear of the gearbox changing. You could get a stock diff from here, or a wrecker, and fit it easily. 5Ks are harder to find than 4Ks, you could get a 4K for free if you're lucky then strip it and rebuild it. The main thing is to learn all about doing motors up rather than having to pay people to do it, or just dropping something in. If you stuff up a 4K rebuild you've only ruined a few hundred bucks. You can bore the 4K out to 80mm and get a 1500cc 4K motor. Read all the member's build topics, the Wiki and the technical/engine building stuff. Start here, easy stuff to do- http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/42407-the-girls-ke70/page__p__445727__fromsearch__1#entry445727
  10. Actually, the way to tackle it is to chat to the local certification enginer you would be using and find out how many thousand he would want, plus what he would want you to do. That will explain where the $15-20k will go and give you an idea of the complexity. Then go and rebuild & modify a 4K so you learn about building engines. Rebore, 5K pistons, cam, head job, Weber or SUs or quads, extractors and exhaust. While you blast around with that you can be upgrading the suspension and brakes. Then do your first engine conversion with something cheap like a T series motor, and do the gearbox and diff at the same time. If you still own the car after that you can organise the 3SG-E. Make sure you get a post-2001 manual front cut, they'll be a lot cheaper in 10years....
  11. PM me when you have $15,000 for the project and I'll put you in touch with the garage in Sydney that puts 1000bhp 2Js into IS200s with very good results. He specialises in engine conversions and custom work.
  12. Its a poor law that will be abused by Police, get used to up their monthly quotas and will make life very dificult for the wrong people. It used to be that "there is no crime without a victim," but having given away our lives to the Govt we suffer under the slavery of victim-less 'rules' as distinct from crime and justice. When you burn the current system, get rid of the total welfare state mentality and take resposibility back from the parasites then a problem like hooning will be solved by common law means, as it used to be. Someone will take a photograph on their cellphone and take the guy to Court privately to show he was a victim of the behaviour. He will be awarded damages and as the victim he would set out the punishment with the Court's approval. That is how our ancestors built this civilisation we have been responsible for destroying. The upcoming civilisation, the Chinese one, may be quite different.
  13. help would be forthcoming a little more if your topic subject said something useful, rather than "Help wanted", which is guaranteed to piss off people who don't want to waste their time looking at some dumb topic they know nothing about...
  14. Hmmm.. maybe you could tempt me to sell you mine. What they say is true, its 10grand if you do a lot of work yourself, so you're looking at the $20k+, unless you could find a garage that has already done a couple of them so they know what to do. School holidays still?
  15. I've given my stock manifold away, but I'm sure they don't have water heating, they relied on the hotbox with the exhaust. How about a flexible intake tube to the back of the radiator, or just above the extractors to heat the air going in?
  16. Speaking of truck motors... The Opel Manta 400 that people like Henri Toivonen and Russell Brookes & Colin McRae rallied.... So big-4 agricultural engines can go! You'll see Toivonen doing some great work with one here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAb6ZJTnlZo&NR=1
  17. nice find! We're living in the dark orange zone!! Temp 7deg, dew point 2deg, humidity 90%.. a miserable day! The SUs have no heating and they run fine, although now I think about it I'm going to go right now & take off the cold air intake!! :laff:
  18. Yes, what happened to the clutch? Tear the fabric off? Rip the core out?? We used to have the clutch shop glue and rivet the fibre on, and double the steel center disc for the rally car.
  19. speedy why don't you get a set of quad carbs off a motorbike wrecker? They are compact and neat, you can make a manifold simply and they produce good power and economy.
  20. If you're not looking for screaming revs performance the 2Rz would be good. Plenty of torque from the bigger motor, a step up in efficiency from the 4K and more than enough power for a lightweight wagon. It makes more power per L than the 3R, and more than double a 4K!!. Pod air filter, cams cut & an exhaust system would match some aftermarket computer if you were keen.
  21. Hmmm.... Could this have something to do with it? The 2Rz is an FE motor, reliable, economic and emissions-friendly, great for a ute but when people go to the trouble of swapping an engine they go for a 'G' motor. The 2RzFE puts out 140bhp from 2.4L, while a performance Toyota G engine would get 230bhp from that. It really depends on what your looking for. The 2Rz looks better to play with, I see a guy can turn in 7.2sec quarters at 193mph with one... What are the 4WD guys getting out of their Hiluxes with it??
  22. Brisbane!!! I thought you'd get that problem here in Orange in the snow or the -5deg frosts.... I don't think the inlet will cool enough in Brisbane to ever drop the petrol out. It sounds lean, but is there something else causing this? Are you running a stock carb and a stock cam, and a stock exhaust with the extractors?
  23. Forget it! Ask a clubmember in Cairns to go take a look at it for you and give you a report on it! That's what Rollaclub is for!!
  24. Before you go up ask someone to take the plugs out and turn it over, either by hand or on a battery. If its frozen then you don't have to even think about starting it. My Armstrong Siddeley was like that, the rings froze to the bores. If it turns over, then I would take a tin of petrol instead of drawing from the tank, a fresh battery and some engine start. If it fires up then change the oil & filter. The carb is quite likely blocked up with shit, so the idea of a spare carb is a good one. Of course the clutch plate is quite likely rusted to the flywheel by now, so no clutch is the next problem.
