  1. don't mean to be rude but... where the hell do you find a decent GTiR for $8k? and i would rather a GTiR over a WRX anyday, sorry but I'm not a fan of changing clutches and gearboxes every other week, even if GTiR's do have weak g/boxes, I'd still rather the power & reliability of an SR20 over a WRX anyday. And just to get in ahead of anybody coz someone is bound to comment, yes, i have driven, and worked on both.
  2. it wouldnt b as dear as you think to insure as you think, i got a quote for full comprehensive insurance on my KE70 (the only stock bit left is the steering :) ) and the worst quote i got was $1200 a year for $12000 coverage, and I'm under 25. Also, whilst GTiR's are front heavy, they can b made to handle well, you just need to get used to driving them differently. You have to b on the power all the way through a corner, if you back off, u end up in the bushes ;) Either way, while it would be a pain in the ass to set up an AWD rolla, it would b pretty cool... personally, i'd just buy a Kultus (Susuki Swift AWD) :D
  3. early T18 ones are the closest fit, still take a heap ofc work 2 make fit tho... i did it but :)
  4. welding metal is easy, welding metal panels can be a bitch coz the more heat you use the more the panel will warp. Just keep the amps down and practice on some spare panels 1st
  5. i had AE86 ones in my last KE70, they bolt straight in, I'm only 5'10" and i had problems with hieght. Just a thought
  6. the reason i ask about the seats, if u havent had them retrimed yet, is that I found KE70 seats to be a little high and quite pissweak ( i broke 2 but i am 150kgs) In case you hadnt thought of it yet, AE86 seats bolt straight in and are about 2-3" lower but still pretty weak (i broke 2 of those aswell :P ) and RA60 celica seats also fit with a bit of modification and are lower, stronger and have a much sportier shape than KE70 seats. I've got RA60 seats in mine and i havent broken 1 in 18mths of driving, just a thought, i'd just hate to see you put all that effort and money into stock seats and find that u either break them or find them uncomfortable, nice work btw :D
  7. Just to satisfy my curiosity, are those seats standard KE70?
  8. I think that the N/A SR that runs a turbo and pumps 200rwkw that was spoken about earlier is a red silvia from WA, he gets about 100,000kms out of each motor and the car was in a hot fours nissan special.
  9. Straight up, the man was/is a legend :P I had the opportunity to meet him on several occasions and my dad worked around him for a good 20 years, he is a true gentleman both on and off the track. He ALWAYS had time for the fans and crew that helped him achieve what he did over his career. He could drive anything and drive it well, he had the unique ability to drive around faults and problems in the cars he piloted (how won in a common whore didnt he :fuzz:). On top of all his abilities and achievments, he has done more for australian motorsport than almost anybody alive or dead, and as previously stated, even if he was taken to soon at least he died doing what he enjoyed, driving hard and fast. Again, the man was a legend and a true aussie champion, he will be sorely missed and fondly remembered. Long live the king 1945-2006... You will always be remembered :y:
  10. not goin AWD, i don't know all the details and i only see him once a year so a members thresd would b pretty pointless, i will start 1 up if he does something tho
  11. on a side note, that WRX into Excell coment reminded me, apparently it is possible to fit a WRX motor into a KE20, my dads mate is planning to do it in the next few years and according to his measuring tape, it will fit. and b4 anybody asks he checked and you can still get the spark plugs out
  12. option 1: ST162 GT four celica with ST205 GT four running gear, bigger brakes, complete rebuild with tougher internals, something bigger in the turbo department but not to big, nice set of fat 15" rims, nice clean white paintjob, 2nd generation MR2 turbo gears, full coilover suspension. and have fun :lock: option 2: my KE70, resprayed, retrimmed, with the LSD in it, rear disks new g/box and a 200kw atw N/A SR20
  13. I cop it alot, especially on the freeways coz apparently there's some unwritten law stating that a KE70 corolla shouldn't b able to overtake. I just ignore it, they can piss and moan all they like, unless they're actually hitting my car what do i care, and if u get out with a weapon of ANY description u are asking for trouble, dad did that about 12mths ago to a bunch of guys who tried to carjack him, he threatened them with a bat, they ran off like bitches, and about 2hrs later dad got charged for bein in possesion of a deadly weapon. I'd either ignore it, or like misssydneycruisin said, contact the appropriate authourities :y: P.S. don't take there photo, it wont stand up in court coz u havent asked them permission or told them your takin there photo, and your likely to piss them off more
  14. I noticed u said before that u were thinking of putting some 14" mags on it, just as an idea, try 14" pre RA60 celica, corona or tarago steelies on it, get the centre caps and some chrome dress rims and they look pretty good with some low (lower than stock anyways) profile tyres. Good offset to, and cheap as I paid $100 for a set of four with dress rims, center caps & tyres :y:
  15. Yes, take plastic off and cover everything metal, it can't hurt it, thats what ive doe 2 all my cars, no rust yet
  16. this is correct accept for 1 thing, the AE71 pedal box has a brace that pushes up againt the firewall to stop flexing of the clutch assembly, also the pedal itself is different and has a different mount for the hydraulic master. And in answer to the original question, u can make a sprinter clutch pedal assembly fit, but it is not fun at all, it takes a fair bit of stuffing arount and the clutch master ends up slightly towards the passenger side in stead if where its supossed to be :)
  17. I recon the easiest (read: easiest not best) way to do it would be to get a SOHC head with similar bore centers and diameters to a K motor and go from there, prolly b alot of stuffing around with water/oil galleries and head bolts though :)
  18. I would generally stay away from putting it on external painted surfaces but for the rest, drown it in fish oil. Both my dad and I have used fish oil on all our cars and we never have rust issues unless there was rust there to start with. By what I've been told, fish oil has an acid in it that accually eats into the steel a litle and protects it from the elements (if youve ever seen trucks driving around the city with xxxxx acid on them but not a hint of rust on them anywhere, it that acid). Dads been using it since the 60's and its worked well for him, he swears by it, stinks like a bastard but. :)
  19. I recon tokico, unless u fell really rich, in which case go ohlins. speakin of which, does anybody know of an ohlins distributor in NSW?
  20. I recon its much of a muchness really, from a safety point of view i recon that there on par cos even if old skool 1's lock u in harder, they're usually really old, worn out, and they only protect passengers if the idiot in the seat has enough brains to put them on. On the other hand, inertia reel is easy to use (so the drunken idiots in the back are more likely to use them) and looks neater when theres no-one in the seat. In the back however, no seat belt is gonna prtect your head and ass front the back of a stiffly sprung rolla, in my car at least, u sit in the back at the risk of head injury ;)
  21. as said the splines r the same but the little circle thingo that deactivates the blinkers is different, the celica/corona has 3 little holes in the boss for location, where as the rolla has 2 holes. just make sure it has provisions for that, or just drill another hole...
  22. This is just an idea at the moment but how many members would be interested in a track day at Wakefield Park (just out of Goulburn, NSW) and i don't mean just drift either, I mean proper timed laps to see whos the quickest, legally ;) At the moment I'm just gauging intrest to see if its worth organising something. Thanks :P (P.S. if this is in the wrong section I apologise)
  23. its not that the fuel pumps shit themselves, mine tended 2 get hot and stop but when they cooled down they worked fine. According 2 my mechanic its because VL external pumps don't like 2 suck fuel, they work better when they have a small pump putting presure up 2 them
  24. I know it really isnt contributing to the thread in any valuable way but... I got a steering wheel just like that, yours is the 1st other 1 I've seen, found mine in a wreck in a national park :) nice work btw, very cool :jamie:
  25. I got an S14 SR20DE in my KE70 if u havent already, use a clutch master of a sprinter, thats what i used, works fine, reasonably firm (my mum can work it) and not to much pedal play. for the brakes: step 1 use corona XT130 corona struts, hubs and steering arms, 89-96 hilux 4WD 4 spot calipers, peugeot 604 rotors. File the holes on the rotor out slightly (like 2mm) to suit the corona hubs, mount the calipers using about a 1-1.5mm spacer on the mounting bolts, file out the caliper slightly 2 clear the rotor and they bolt 2 a rolla ball joint and tie rod end. Step 2 2 options here, option 1: get a spring made up 2 suit the corona spring mount on the strut and a rolla top hat or Option 2: use an AE92, AE82 or SV21 camry strut insert and a 40mm (ish, you'll have 2 work it out exactly) spacer, cut the strut leg down 40mm (again 40ish) and put the 40mm spacer inside the strut leg, weld thread back on the strutleg for the shock retaining nut. Get a weld on coilover kit from noltec or koni and weld it onto the strutleg, get an aftermarket coilover spring (i used 350lbs) and put it all back together. Should look something like this :) and with the brake master cylinder, i used a MA61 Supra one, it is possible 2 split a KE70 booster and redrill the holes to take a toyota four stud master, its a bitch (especially to get back together) but ultimately its worth it coz u can use several different masters till your happy with the result (hilux, landcruiser, cressida, celica, etc) alternitively u can use a starion master and not mod the original booster. The modding of the booster is a bitch of a job but, so if want u i can do a booster for u for $100 if u send me a booster 2 mod :jamie: and just use the rolla ones and some adjustable strut tops, with the corona struts u don't end up with massive pos camber and if u wanna use the car on the street and not have wheels haging waaaaaaay out, stisk 2 the rolla ones. i got a few pics of what mine looks like under sr powered rolla on www.rollaclub.com in rides and projects if u wanna c what it looks like with standard LCA's, corona struts and adjustable strut tops
