I`ll second that it sounds great from the outside when you open her up. Just don`t get the cannon with big tip (like leigh`s twinky sorry dude but its real bad) . With a resonator i put a 18" long hot dog on my ke 11 to knock a little out of it for the engineers cert and it droped from 106db to 85db i think and I'm considering leaving as it brings more induction noise with my twin carbs. I have a 5k 4-1 extractors 2" pipe 18" long reso with an offset 2" muffler, but all systems sound different on diferent cars. stu.

As i said dude on the weekend we have two perfectly great drive-ins on the peninsula. On the recent rollaclub Great Ocean Road run. I encountered a problem, when i tried to start my 5k powered ke 11 it was like the batt was dead(motor wouldnt turn). Then Cam(mr moparman) suggested we pull the plugs and see if there was any fluid in the pots. Which there was and lots of fuel in there(about 100-200ml) came out of the plugs which was causing a lock. Emptied the pots she turned over a few times then fired. If i had of done this with a locally produced engine say ford or holden 6cyl or v8, i would have been towing it back from apollo bay to frankston :) would have been pricey, as it would have either bent or broken the conrods and the crank. Gotta say alot for the engineering in these engines. Just thought it may be a good discussion topic. stu.

wow got lost in torquay and caught in bad traffic close to home and whent to a mates. Filled up in lorne on the way there $20 and then last night after a wash $19 to fill again so $39 all up not quite a full tank. sorry to give ya`ll that info, but given the run is prob now half of kms ive driven in the car and not wanting to get matts weekend off to a bad start before it began, i wasnt keen to push it too hard. Hey Jarrad easy way to check if its detonating bad is to check the plugs, and see if its melting plugs or if they are light(as leighs are with his so called exhaust)lol. it may be running a little lean. Then check for leaks of any description. hope its sorted for the weekend. stu.

yes like he said, but also in saying that if it was an over rev on a down change you may have stretched the pin hole of the piston. When we used to make v8 supercar pistons and they coped an over rev down change it would rip the bottum out of the piston out. A bee`s dick loose(like 5 tenths of a thou") pin in a vl commo will rattle at 3000-4000 and then stop. Hope its pushrods Eagles have custom pushrods for chevs but they`ll fit anything as they get diff diams and custom lengths to suit. Good luck with your prob not wanting to scare you just givving different options. stu.

Side draft twins sound amazing. I have a set of twin 1 1/2" su`s on my 5k and the echo through steets is great. I think other than the carbs i have a close setup but i can't give you an idea of economy as my speedo is way out and i drive a v8 as my daily so of course id be a bit biased when i say its really really cheap to run. With tunning her the setup tune was $86. its a shame you don't live hear as they(mammi motors) would pretty much tune it within 2 hours they charge $66 an hour plus parts, not a plug just giving you an idea on what you should be paying. One last tip look around for the shops that do older rally cars they always run twins. good luck with your project. stu.

When i started working on my ke 11 i realised that the 5k in the car is not the same engine thats out of say a liteace, For starters it runs 10.2:1 comp, a 5k-c waterpump needs modifying to fit the old pulley and so on. When i reaserched a little the only thing i could get anything from was the super long electrode plug and a denso plug book which does say the comp ratio is 10.2:1 it says its a 5k-j out of a KE 74 corolla any info pics would be great. The reason i ask this is after aus day long weekend its time to make power and I'm not real keen on modding her too much if its rare ill just buy a 5k-c and go from there and stash the other one away. thanks in advance stu.

Correct me if I'm wrong but i thought that gze pistons must run oil squiter cutouts too or is that just for the 3sgte. I just thought sets i have made had in the past had the cutouts about 45deg from the pin on the bottum of the skirt. i may be mistaken your thoughts Cam?

Just realised that my car is not happy with the heat its not that it runs hot, if it sits at idle for a bit i get a vaparisation issue but either fix it or drive around it. and then try to find where the brake fluid is going and all my bugs are solved, so the ke11 is a definate starter looking forward to it.
