  1. a quick google of "Alfasud" reveals an alpha romeo? it also revelas that its a flat-4 (boxer)? might be a tight squeez fitting a boxer engine into a ke70. there is a bloke on ae86dc that is putting a boxer engine from a subaru into an ae86. pretty tight squeeze, but thats a 2L, so maybe the Alfasud engine is smaller. ive never even heard of an alfasud, but how cool is the wagon version. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...rdiniera_01.jpg
  2. haha damn thats what i was going to post. the smaller your turning radius, the greater the problem with lockers, as you are experiencing. and to be honest there is not alot you can do. anything you do that will increase your handling will in fact make the effect of your locker worse. since handling mods are designed to hold the wheels firmer to the ground, and your currently problem is that you have TOO MUCH grip in the rear end, and thus the locker is causing you dramas. sarcasm or not mr altessas suggestions are completely correct, all those things will help your cause. take out the your sway bar, put softer springs and shocks in, raise your car, fit skinny tyres, crank the pressure in them. then you will feel less effect from your locker, since your rear end will have no grip at all and the inside wheel can spin/scrub as much as it wants. but your car will handle like poo at speed. you can either have your car driveable in carparks, and aweful at speed. or handle well at speed, and undriveable in car parks. which one would you rather;)
  3. i think 'oh what a nissan' was having a dig at murd 55, since he is apparnently a real spray painters apprentice. i do love the "acrylic is sh*t" comments, with nothing to back it up. classic internet forum activity. isnt 2-pack illegal to spray with out fancy PPE and other equipment, and you have to run any extracted air from your booth through water and then dispose of the water properly? something like that....either way its nasty stuff, and i prolly wouldnt touch the stuff in my garage. though my mate did, and hes not dead yet. we'll see how he is in 30yrs:P also there was some mention of getting "runs" in the paint. when spraying we found it quite difficult to get runs, we tried painting on a few old panels first, and unless you held the gun completely still for a second, it was quite difficult to get a run, you just need to keep the gun moving and your sweet. and the paint was drying so damn fast anyway, i swear it was drying in the air before it even got to the car!
  4. yeah i did a cheap spray job a few yrs back. prolly spent 300 in total (borrowed a compressor, bought a gun) i used metalic (so had to buy some clear coat as well), which is rumoured to be "harder" to paint, but the bloke at the paint shop said it was the same....and we didnt find it "hard" to paint. though i have no painted non-metalic, so who knows...maybe it is harder. i think the finish on mine is a bit "flecky" so we prolly did something wrong. but its all metalic blue now...and shiny...and has lasted a few yrs now in the sun.
  5. just so you and others are aware, austarlia post will send wheels no dramas. put them in a box, one wheel per box, and no worries.... max weight of australia post is 25kg, and i can't remember max size, but its pretty big. and prices are fairly reasonable, i sent 3 x 19kg boxes from QLD to NSW which were about 40x40x50cm. and it was only $70 for all three boxes. only real pain is that you actually have to go to ausipost shop to send them. but they are open on saturdays for a few hours.....
  6. so the vote goes from ke10, up to ae111. (maybe higher?) so thats a 1k rwd up to a blacktop 20v fwd. and from ~1960 to ~1997?* *my stats may be wrong, but you get the idea...
  7. too right! i think ive finally convinced my dad that i have the ability to maintain my old ke70. after 4yrs or so of modifying/maintaining... quotes such as "just put it back to stock and bloody drive it" are quite common in my house!!
  8. i don't really understand these threads. who cares what we think, its your car only matters what you think. ae94 and ke20 are completely different cars. on is ~1990, other is ~1970. 20 yrs different. one is a somewhat modern engine (potentially EFI? dunno much about ae94) the other is an old K motor with about 4 moving parts in it, and unbelievably slow in stock form. one is FWD one is RWD. one is a fwd run about car which will go forever if looked after, the other is getting on 40yrs old so i reckon "classic" car is a good term. getting the ke20 up to any sort of performance level is going to require some serious work. are you up for that? they look cool in stock form, but thats about it:P the k motor is....slow...yet reliable. your current A motor will kill it (even if its the carby version...) the 20V will bolt into your ae94, no such luxury with the ke20. what do you expect us to say? read some members rides threads on ke20's, if you like them, and feel you are up for the challenge, then go for it. if not, keep the ae94.
  9. I'm not sure if its putting a 351 into a ke20, i think its more your trying to wrap a ke20 around a 351. good luck with getting it legal, talk to an engineer. they are the ones who decide what is legal or not. like reddwarf sais, the internet can't sign things off.
  10. id say so, http://www.kingsprings.com/contact_us.htm ring them up, or email them. i have a few times, they are friendly and helpfull.
  11. see look rust does make you go sideways
  12. yeah those pics are sweet as. ive spent the last 30mins reading about HDR, its pretty neat, but also a pretty simple idea. all in the post processing it seems. assuming your camera can take the 3 or 5 different images. that how you do yours?
  13. that is a very nice corolla mate. i like those HDR picks, I'm going to have to buy a camera that can do that.
  14. did you take into account leap years twinky? taking into account: leap years, the natural frequency of western australia (where t18drits lives), combined with the effect of both the inverse reactive current and the modial interaction of magneto reluctance and capacitive duractance. I calculate the time for rust to completey ruin a car to be 3624.6666667 days.
  15. best bet is to rip the head off, take it down to a machinist and get them to check it out. if its not warped or bent, you will only be up for the cost of a headgasket. ($100 or so perhaps) if its warped or bent, then you may be better off picking up another engine, or maybe just a new head. last time i got a 4k head reconditioned it was about $450. how is the rest of the engine, did it blow smoke or rattle? and how did the headgasket blow? overheating?
  16. yeah i tried advancing the timing alot on my old 4k, hardly made any difference. and it just made it run worse. i think stock timing is supposed to be about 8 BTDC.
  17. what course are you doing? i did engineering, and given class sizes of 500+ in lecture theatres, and tutes are optional....there was no attendance issues!! i think i only had 2 courses that required attendance, and the attendance was only worth 5% of the course. i hear alot of teaching/social science courses penalise you heavily for not attending, as the tutes are "discussion" based, and you must participate in the discussion in order to pass the course....its a better way of doing i i reckon, i skipped soooo many tutes and lectures over the years, since there was no real reason to go...but then i would have to cram all that knowledge in at the end of the semester.... (not recommended!!) btw this glandular fever sounds terrible, i got a few mates who had it, i hope it gets better for you rollaboy.
  18. well i thought id let you know how this went. i ended up with the federal 595 RSR's for $142 each fitted from option 1. and dammmnn they are grippy! got my wheel alignment done within the same week, pulled some camber out to preserve the tyres (my commute to work requires 20mins of highway driving, good for chewing out tyres with negative camber) the tyres are also fantastic in the wet, pushed them fairly hard in the wet the other night, and although they did eventualy understeer (as expected) it was controllable and predictable. straight line breaking is great in the wet though. so overall i am happy with them, just hope they last a while. only real drama is that they are so sticky they pick up EVERY rock on the road and flick it under my car....can be a little annoying on gravel patches!! haha
  19. yeah thats pretty low already mate! wait till you get some wheels/tyres to fill up those guards. ive had cut springs in the back of my car for ages, but i have short stroke shocks so the springs can't physically become un captive. i see no problem with it, especailly in the rear where you have the whole spring....tower? that the spring sits up in, spring seriosuly has no where to go. i run mine with the cut end "up". and the un cut end on the diff. i don't know why people ever run it the other way around... new shocks are the key, stiff enough bump so you don't hit the bump stops, and short enough stroke so the springs don't become un captive. the front howeer, I'm not a fan of cutties in there, as once an end of the spring falls off the spring seat, its all over! having said that, my mate in his 86, we cut the springs all round, didnt change the shocks for a while, knew it was "bad", drove around like that for a while, i think we even got it airbourne (or close to), hit this huge bump on one of hte mountain roads, springs were perfectly fine...
  20. nasty bit of rust there! good to see its manual. please don't paint it matt black :rolls:
  21. looking good chris!! love the look of that bottom end.
  22. did you go to Shibuya during the day? when we were there it was peak hour, raining, and there was a few political parties yelling and screaming, must have been election time. the noise and the volume of people was phenominal. those photos are awesome btw, where are those ones at tokyo taken? tokyo tower?
  23. let me rephrase what makes you want to ask, as in order to have asked this question you must have some doubt that the springs will handle your drifting. so why do you think the springs wont handle the drifting.
  24. what do you think will happen?
  25. not seen this thread before! cool car mate, i love those carbys. you make that inlet manifold? looks like you are having some fun on the track too.
