  1. I havent specifically done what you are talking about, but i have been invovled with high compression turbo, which is what your real issue is going to be. you can forget any idea of using a standard ecu, high compression forced induction is ALL about the tune. get it right and it will be one sweet engine, get it wrong and catastrophy awaits very soon. Anything that can go wrong goes wrong quick in high compression. destruction of my mates 12a turbo 6 days after rebuild is a testament to this.... I would be inclined to avoid the sc12, too old. Try and get a modernish turbo on there, or at least one that you can get rebuilt. but either way a you either have to figure out how to mount the supercharger + piping or turbo + piping. I have seen an sc12 with standard RWD intake and it looked real neat. so it can be done. Injectors: plenty of options as the injector is the same as lots of others, the FC rx7 injectors are 440cc (4age smallport is 200 or 210cc i think). the 7mgte might work, either way get whatever you choose cleaned and flow tested before you use them. Your an engineer, time to start looking at this like an engineer:P http://www.not2fast.com/turbo/glossary/turbo_calc.shtml That calc is a great way to design turbos and fuel requirements. takes a while to understand, but its very good. Pick an aftermarket ecu and make a new loom, get new plugs for everything. Makes for a very neat and clean install. Your experience with trying to "fix" your current loom is a tesatment to the fact that stuff around with 25yr old looms on a modified engine/car is a complete and utter pain in the ass and not worth the hastle! haha. good idea to go with individual coils while your at it as well. intercooler and exhaust, well you just have to get creative, a small front mount (400x300 maybe) will fit between the grill and bumper, get some or make some pipes to suit. Did this on an 86 and worked a treat, DIY gasless mig intercooler pipes sure are ugly, but sure work good! And before all of this you find a tuner that will tune it for you, or you buy a wideband, a knock sensor + headphones, and spend weeks tuning it yourself. Its great fun and rewarding, but does take time and dangerous if you get it wrong!
  2. yeah i tend to agree with altezza. i replaced a set of shocks in a N14 pulsar and even they were quite difficult to push down. Felt like jelly on the road though. But i think thats just pulsars in general.. do both shocks feel the same? both uber stiff? Throw them in give them a go, you will know pretty quick if they are rooted. On an old corolla rear shocks are uber quick to change anyway! A patrol is designed for 4wding so i reckon they will be simliar to installing 40mm steel pipe between your shock mounts.
  3. this is a HUGE problem.... Sorta ties in to what i was talking about before where borrowing money is just too easy. House is 400k, so they get a 500k loan to buy 100k worth of stuff and renovations to put in the house before they move in. not to mention that their $1200 fridge costs $2500 after 30yrs.... and while they might have been pretty comfortable paying off a 400k loan, 500k is right on the limit. 0.001% change in interest rate, and they can't pay it. Had they had kept the 400k loan leaving a bit of fat in their budget and slowly over time bought new things for the house (put up with old stuff for a while), an interest rate change just means they can't go out for dinner that often, rather than defaulting on loan and losing house. Comes down to too much greed from banks, and i guess also people living outside of their incomes or right on the limits in order to get nice stuff. (Stuff that isnt even theirs as the bank owns it all!) My parents tell stories of their first few months of living in their house involved litterally sitting on milk crates and watching a tiny TV they got for a wedding gift that was sitting on an upside down oempty paint bucket that dad was using to slowly do up the house (house still a work in progress 30yrs on, but damn its looking good).
  4. Id say air intake temp is one that needs to be done to make it run perfect. either way its best to have no codes up. I think on the FWD 20vs its usually in the airbox, i dunno what your intake setup looks like atm, but just put the sensor close to where its sucking in air. got a photo of this dizzy relotation kit? where did you relocate it too? onto the front of engine?
  5. just stay away from the handbrake!
  6. You gonna give me a passenger run if i drive out on sunday to QR?
  7. if you have a T engine (3t most likely) then you would have got a T series gbox as well. maybe even a T series diff? or an S series. my understanding is it was only the ausi ones that got the borge warner.
  8. I don't think the weight is that big of deal. its probably an 800-900kg with a k motor, whats another 100-200kg? 1000-1100 is still a damn light car. and i would have a guess that all the hilux diff, rol cage gearbox will probably almost equal out the extra weight in the engine bay and the overal weight distribution front to rear wont change THAT much. To do what this guy is talking about properly, about the only thing left with anything to do with corolla is going to be the badge. a quick list assuming you go for the big v8 and associated stuff to make it an all rounder car. -new engine -modified firewall -modified trans tunnell. -custom engine mounts adn gearbox mounts, i wouldnt be supprised if you have to do something with the oil pan -A hilux differential is going to need all the mounts from a standard ke diff transfered. tailshaft to suit. then find an LSD to make it work. pick a good final drive. -you are probably going to want to make the rear suspension a bit better, either with a panhard rod, or howeever else you stop leaf springs from going from side to side -choose your rear brakes based on what fits on a hilux, either way they are going to be bigger -massive front brakes to suit, including all new suspensions (carefully thought out suspension to cope with the extra weight) -something new with the brake master cylinder perhaps -custom made hydraulic clutch (or leave it if you're going auto) -a small roll cage perhaps, either the rear half or the whole lot. something to stop you dying in the event it all goes pear shaped -and all the other stuff i havent mentioned that will probably take twice as long as all the stuff mentioned already. By the time you have done all that, essentially no corolla left. do_eet. Get out the welding and the grinder.
  9. With the way you are communicating to us, knowone is going to put in any effort to help you. Stop putting "hahah" on the end of all your sentences. I and others are happy to help, but not without some effort on your part.
  10. I tend to agree with the term "anyone can buy a house", IF they put their mind to it and/or seak finanical advice/guidence if they need it. Easier said than done, as I'm yet to do it, but I'm working towards it and the goal is in site. I am only just starting out in real life i guess, but i have discovered that if you don't waste your money on crap, you can save alot of money pretty fast.... And living on a minimalist budget and bringing down your lifestyle to meet your goals isnt that difficult if you are committed. I think credit cards should be outlawed, and you shoudlnt be able to get a loan unless you can match the loan with savings perhaps. Its far tooo easy to get into heavy debt, and if an individual gets into heavy debt, then its not suprising that these people stay in debt for a long time. Yes its an indivuals decisions to get into debt, but the temptations are too big. However in saying all of that, i do belive in helping people that havent had a good start in life or who are genuinly struggling and trying to do the right thing. Who decideds who gets a good chance at life or not? There are people out there that would have grown up with absoluatly no concept to living without centrelink payments to keep their family afloat, alot can't hold a job because they really have no idea how to, the only role model they have ever had in their lives was a father/mother who never held a job either, who probably had the same role models in their life. there are people that woudl have absoluately no idea how to create a simple budget to even keep track of the centre link payments they get. The old saying, the apple does fall far from the tree.. don't belive me? go and find someone who works in something like Child protection or other sort of welfare groups/organisations. My fiance is a child protection officer with the government, the stories she tells of how kids are abused and neglected it is absoluately no wonder why they have a difficult time in life. Now to tie this into what the government can do, preventative programs and not for proffit orgnaisations need heavy support to pick up these kids/young people at an early age and attempt to get their lives onto track (drug, alcohol, finanical adviced budgeting etc) . if we can sort out the kids/young adults at a young age, in 20yrs time there is a better chance they will be in a better position. I don't want to sound like a preacher, but out church just opened up a very small organisaion down in logan somewhere i think, and amung other things they run a program that does free school homework sessions for kids of parents that probably could never do homework, or refugee kids that genuinely want to learn but struggle a bit with the language. From all accounts the extra ~30mins a day of free one on one tutoring makes a HUGE difference to these kids everyday lives at school. not jsut in their academics, but in their personal development as well. And this is just one example, there are so many of these small organisations that are making a huge different to individuals, but i don't belive get the support they need to be used to their full potential.
  11. here is half your problem. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4age-ecu-ae86-ae82-mr2-/221133180147?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item337c908cf3
  12. one day i will have a mk1....one day..... :( wicked mate, lookin' forward to more progress photos!
  13. why are there so many auto ones of these around? or are all the manual ones smashed at the wreckers?
  14. Assuming the current wheels are 14x7 +8 then yep, to stick out 6mm more it neesd to be 14x7+2. dare i say it, 6mm slip on spacer?
  15. just gotta watch the wreckers tyres as its possible that they have been sitting in the sun for months. Tyres don't like being sat in the sun for months.
  16. hmmm... I would be a little hesitant in bending it, as they work in tension and compression, putting in a bend will only weaken it. you could bend it and put in some reinforcing, but then you might struggle to get enough clearance. tried it without the lock spacer? perhaps you just have to live with a bit less lock.
  17. perhaps there are some other castor rods from other cars that are bent? and are long enough to be bent? Whats does an xt130 castor arm look like? or any of the other coronas in the 80s/90s? might be worth scouring the wreckers for something. Even if you have to redrill the castor arm hole in the LCA thats not a big deal, just don't do it too close to the existing holes...
  18. External oil filters are great in that one rock will take it out and destroy your engine quick smart.
  19. That ae86 is a photo shop.
  20. ma61 wheels are apparently 14x7 +8 sounds to me like the combination of the slightly positive wheels, lock spacer and ps arms creates too much lock and the tyre hits. You could weld a lock stop onto the LCA to stop the steering arm going to far. its quite possible that everyone with this setup rubs the crap out of their tyres on full lock.
  21. What does the carby mob recomend for the jetts? based on the fact that it is a reasonably high performanceish 1.6L. you will probably get pretty close if you tell them its a 1.6, but its best to get it dyno tuned once its all running. as the condition of the engine, exhuast you choose, and if the engine is modded in any other way will change the jetting requirements considerably.
  22. How much castor have you got dialed in?
  23. The big question is budget and personal ability.
  24. yerp, i don't like politics. I don't know what you do about it as that is how democracy works though. If policy was created that pissed everyone off, but was actaully good for the greater good but in 5-10yrs, then that goverment would be voted out, and the oppisition woudl be voted in beacuse they promised to remove it, even though they probably know its a good idea, they just said it was a crap idea to get into power. lets say for isntance, tomorrow the govnment stood up and said we are completely banning cigarettes from Australia. i have absolutely no doubt that the oposition would jump in and say "if we get into power we will reverse it" even though they may not agree with what they said, they just want to disagree for the sake of disagreeing so that all those people that would have voted for the original goverment will now vote for the opposition based on this one policy change. (note i don't want to sound like I'm bagging smokers, do what you want, just an example) It seems to be that the pollies arent intesrted in making decisions that are good for the country, they are only intested in making decisions that the country likes so they get in next time. (thiough i guess you run the risk of the other end of the spectrum, when you have a dictator with full reign, and i don't think that ever ends well) Although i think cambell newman has gone at it a bit too hard and fast, and maybe hasnt been that well thought out, its great to see a politician putting his repuation on the line and actually doing something that aims to have long term positive effects (at the expense of short term negative) rather than the aiming for short term positive to hopefully stay in power at the next election. Hats off to him for having a crack at it. See how it all goes....
  25. got a set of scales? Be interesting to see what they weigh with no tyres. also 165? maybe if you want to cut cheese. 7" is 195 territory. does 195/55/R14 exist?
