  1. damn that looks dangerous. I'll start tomorrow.
  2. Are you making an engine dyno......
  3. you shoudlnt have to touch it. remember, what you are doing is: taking an engine from a late model corolla, and shoehorning it into an early model corolla. you need to remmeber that it was never meant to go on there, so therefore its not just a matter of plugging and playing. you need to work out what you need to do, work out how it works on the original car where the 20V came from and figure out how you can adapt it to your ae92. also search ;) http://www.twincam.org/topic/11274-air-con-for-corolla-ae92/ heres another one that may have some good info. looks like he asked a slightly different question to you, but from all the info there i think some of it will help.
  4. heres one on the speedo drive http://forum.twincam.org.au/topic/1698-speedo-cable-20v-into-ae92/ What do you mean steering column?
  5. yeah but about 4hrs after i do that i will be pulling out the rear ones....in multiple bits!
  6. I had never owned an EFI engine before i got my 4age going. I was a little underwhelmbed by the outright power of the engine, only a 1.6L after all. But it was very fun as others have said. and i think it was the consistancy of the engine that i was really impressed with (which is an EFI trait, not necessarilly a 4age trait). the 4a is a zippy quick engine, not necessarilly a fast engine. And it is these quick and zippy engines that are the fun ones. my subi is much faster, but it certainly is knowwhere near as fun.
  7. The overregulation of this country is getting out of control, seems everytime you want to do smoething there are 10 hoops to jump through and the goverment puts their hand in your pocket at every hoop. I'm only a youngen really but the more i live and discover this world the more i am seeing how rediculous this is. But it seems australia is a fair way along this path of overregulation and i have no idea how anyone can turn it around without some sort of revolutionary type action. Since we are on a car forum i guess one good example is the position that goverment has taken on Speeding. They have everyone convinced that so long as people do 100km/h and not 107km/h (and even 102km/h in NSW i think?)this will stop people dying on the streets. Imagine what would happen if tomorrow the transport ministor stood up and said "nah we were wrong, we are binning all speeding cameras, and focusing on driver attitude of young drivers, road conditions and compulsary roadworthys every 6months to ensure all cars are actually safe, with huge fines for driving a car with bald tyres. and people who have more than 1 at fault accident in 2yrs are subjected to an intense driving test, and if they fail they arent allowed to drive. so sorry about all you who got speeding tickets, hopefully this new system works" Can you imagine the uproar from everyone who got speeding tickets over the last~60yrs or whatever? The govmt isnt exactly going to give all the money back.....as they spent it already. it seems EVERYTHING that can be regulated is WAY OVER regulated. Which i think is having a deterent effect on alot of people to steer clear of activities which is probably what they want.... I undertsand you need some regulation, to sort out the idiots, but its gone a bit to far. The solution? not sure. Do i care? sure i care, and i too have very much considered going overseas just to try another country out (canada looks good, mainly for the skiing!, I'm sure it has its downfalls as well though). Do i feel like i can make any sort of difference to change this? No way. Any suggestions are welcome.
  8. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/WHITELINE-18MM-ADJUSTABLE-REAR-SWAYBAR-SPRINTER-AE86-/200501954065?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eaed90611 contact GSL rally sport on here. I'm guessing it would be around the $230 mark going on other percentages of prices.
  9. The well modified subarus aren't advertised on the internet and they are low profile. its only the crap ones you can hear a mile away and look aweful.
  10. We aren't that bad.
  11. Thats a very nice job. the only car i have been invovled with mph was a 68 premier with a linear spedometer. we put masking tape over the top of the MPH and used a nikko pen to write the kmh. this is a much nicer solution.
  12. I don't care if monday's blue tuesday's grey and wednesday too thursday I don't care about you, it's friday I'm in love
  13. make sure the coil is grounded through the body of the coil itself, it needs to be bolted down.
  14. As much as the method goes against everything i know that is right about welding. I LOVE the backyard approach, and i would probably have a go at it myself:P
  15. i think its a pretty interesting test of the cars ability though. Such a huge and powerful car looks like it behaves fairly neutral with very limited grip at all 4 corners. imagine if you did the same to an SS commodore. I suspect you would be facing the wrong direction pretty damn quick. I like what he was saying about the car being over tyred for "fun".
  16. i want to have a go at this.
  17. ^^Thats horrible... Ive almost decided to delete my facespace account, tired of the garbage on there and tired of everyone knowing stuff about me before i even tell them. and annoyilng i never actually post stuff, its always people posting stuff about me. "so and so with David bryant @ movies" next day, get a message from some random person "so how was that movie you saw, i saw you went to see it in facebook"... its almost like you cannot have a conversation about something/someone without them mentioning something they saw on facebook.
  18. the Nardi classic wheel is quite possibly the best wheel i have ever used. unfortuantely the po-po didnt like mine and gave me a defect ticket for it. id have a nardi torino though, which is an aftermarket wheel with a padded centre, which i belive came standard (or very simliar ones) on the Mx5 and a few others cars. (early wrx as well)
  19. far out that photo up there is hilarius. I may have caused a stir when i burst out into laughter in a silent office. the sw20 shocks i reckon are close to perfect length for a pretty lowered ke70. I had them in cut down ae86 shock tubes.
  20. i can't help you with those questions, but thanks for posting those images of the crank balancer, very intersting!
  21. I have only recently discovered this show. just started season 2. soo goood.
  22. i could be in! defiantely in november though. heading off to NZ untill late october.
  23. err.... the dyno will tell you EVERYTHING. do run on dyno with vvti off. do run on dyno with vvti on. compare, if it makes any difference? there is alot to VVTI tuning, so i would be talking to a reputable tuner to get his oppinion on it. as its not just switching on vvti, its: -where in the rev range do you switch it on? -what changes to the fuel map do you make if you turn it on? (there will be some) -what changes to the ignition advance map do you make if you turn it on? (there will be some) but i cannot see any reason why incorporating vvti into your tune wont give you advantages, more air can only ever be a good thing, but its going to take alot of development in order to get the full advantage. same deal as the cat. if you get the biggest cat you can get, with the lowest number of holes, on a 1.6L i can't imagine it will lose more than 10kw. complete guess here. also, there is a HUGE difference between tuning for power, and tuning for emissions. if you are trying to pass the emissions test, you may need to get your tuner to completely rethink how they tune it. Tuning for emissions can be possibly alot more difficult than tuning for power. and some tuners might not even bother doing it. as for the power you expect it to make, that is not a completly answerable question, but here is a good start: http://www.not2fast.com/turbo/glossary/turbo_calc.shtml
