  1. I have, for maximum strength, ra40/ke30/xt130 corona style tie rod ends and adjuster tubes. They work with stock ke70 rack ends. This is with xt130 lcas which are +10mm a side. I have only 2 threads unused on the tie rod and rack ends. So you could easily go another 20mm a side without a strength issue as the tubes are long and mine are wound all the way in.
  2. What about my jdm voltage stabiliser? I'm sure it creates 9.756 sae hp according to my ass dyno. :laff: :bash:
  3. Agreed. I just wish I had a cage so I could be more aggressive with weight reduction. I think the 2 most valid areas initially to pull weight from are the rotating wheels and tyres and anything up high that would raise the centre of gravity. Perhaps the most valuable mod to lower the cars cog would be to replace glass with lexan as you TRD blokes have just done. I'd really like to do this if I was not on the roads. The battery thing is a big one too, I did consider buying something more lightweight, but then I decided I wanted amps for the electronics and to flick my starter fast so I went with a ridiculously big unit instead. I think in the other shell I will try and make it a lot more sportier for the bigger motor. That means start with a cage I think.
  4. and you will get the better gearbox with it and better brakes and driveshafts.
  5. Yeah, but it all depends on the hp available how far you go I guess, in a silvia, it could be a lot. Its all about optimising without too much overkill.
  6. When it comes to handling I think you need to consider the gyroscopic effect of the wheels and tyres spinning at different speeds as a varying directional force (thanks to the steering), and then also the static unsprung weight of fixed components as a secondary consideration. Potentially the momentum of a spinning wheel and tyre could be massive, and as such the gains would be greater if you consider that a 3 kg reduction in the spinning mass can result an a far lesser maximum momentum once its spinning fast and pointing in a certain direction. This would result in a more tactile response to the handling input and less work for the steering. So maybe its primarily more important to have lighter wheels and tyres and axles rather than worrying a whole bunch about the lightest static components such as calipers, stubs, housings etc. Just a thought...
  7. No they're real high in an ae71 chassis too. :bash:
  8. Thats it, makes quite an appreciable difference. Ive never had anyone even try to engage that feature. Kellam obviously doesnt even get it, and Novak wouldnt have known about it if I didnt tell him as adpatronic was new to him when I got my tune. Once I got the wideband I quickly discovered the benefits.
  9. lol @ sideways action.
  10. transient throttle control.
  11. Been playing with the adaptronic, just found a feature that allows me to make the efi behave like FCRs with the power jet that enriches when the throttles are cracked open over and beyond what the tuning says it should do at any static point, its really helpful! Response is amazing, scary when you punch it out of a corner now, I love it. Monster is growing longer claws...
  12. I believe youve built some excellent cars in the past so I'm keen to see what you come up with. :hmm: I just enjoy the science of it all I think. Test this, log that, learn a process, make changes, test, look at the data, make corrections, retry, its all about making the most of the hardware I already have before I invest in more capacity. Which, with what I have equates to working towards a seriously refined tune and I think the possibility of a 15.2-15.3 second pass. I might try putting some taller and softer springs in one day and really letting the rear squat down, plus the 20psi in the rears, you never know maybe a 15 flat. That would make me happy.

  14. I managed to almost equal my previous times. I should have dumped some air from my rear end and softened the suspension up but I was too lazy and uninspired and didnt manage better than 15.6. Plus, I was hoping to get a few runs in but I got there at 730 to find the lanes backed up to scrutineering. I got 2 in and that was all there was time for. Bit of a shit night, plus the adaptronic application had a little tizzy right as I was about to lunch the first run and I wasnt able to datalog it, but the second run was quicker and with better shifts and i was able to log that one, I'm still a bit rich from 6000-8500. Ive also put the rev limit up to 8500 just so I can still get similar speed out of each gear as the 4.3:1 rear end that I was used to is broken and I'm using 4.5s now. I found out that the car is best launched at 6000rpm. I got my best 60 footer ever. I think it was 2.125.

  16. Just got a laptop so I can datalog with the car. I got a Lenovo thing brand new for $225. Its great, just a 10 inch screen and a 250g hdd, 1gig ram and an intel atom 1.6ghz chip. Should be ideal for travelling around under the car seat logging data. I'm taking it to the drags tonight to see how the afrs are up top. I opened my rev limit up to 8500 to try and get more speed in each gear, so i need to watch the tuning and make sure its all sweet. The map reads like it should drive fine but I need to test afrs to really know. Ive also finished ducting the slot next to the radiator. Looks Good. Hopefully it shares some cold air around.
  17. I already have one, sorry Dougy. So is anyone else going to join me? Prices go up next month, so come out while its still $40.
  18. OK guys, I'm definately attending the next test and tune night on Wednesday the 20th of July (tomorrow night). Come out if you can!
  19. Most valid gravedig ever, keep up the good work.
  20. As it stands, I can hit the cold rev limit on a long night time drive on the highway, so to make my tune work I need it to be a bit warmer in there. Once you go faster the problem gets worse. Anyhow, the mod is completed, it worked awesome, just need to finish the ducting to get the most out of it. I now have approx 4 degrees cooler inlets temps unless I'm stationary.

  23. Only spirits had colour coded grills, so i say leave it, respray the red even. It looks a bit 80s but that is the point. Oh the memories... and gold wheels on a red car looks pornographic if you ask me.
