So I went and saw this rig. Its awesome. Was a very tidy vehicle before but the motor just makes it!

Seems really odd to me, as every single ra40 manual I have ever seen features either a w50 or w40. I know you need a liteace housing off an L series gearbox to make it work from memory. May as well use the liteace clutch too while you are there. Should be cable aswell.

I have access to a couple of aurion motors and some auto 1gr housings and they don't connect. Having never looked at a lexus 6 speed pattern from a gr series motor I cannot say. I'm pretty confident that a 2wd hilux box will not connect to the smaller Aurion v6. Aurion motor pattern is almost the same as 2azfe, which is sort of a rotated s patetrn but different around the bottom of the housing. Its all down to the camry lineage. If I were looking at a lexus v6 motor for my corolla it would be the 2.5 litre thing from the IS250 JDM version, with 6 speed of course. Looking at maybe 4-5k landed here but then you need a hell of an aftermarket ecu to run the 4 VVTi systems at once. Or you need to do a hell of a wiring job to make a standard ecu work in a non standard chassis. i think you would have to integrate the full electronics to make it function.

Count the Aurion motor out. Its not going to mate to a rwd tranny, not even the GR series Hilux tranny from what i can tell.

My money is on a some dodgy spacers to make the insert work under the shock. Perhaps they used shocky washers and they have crushed down over time. Just get real spacers made that fit the profile of the shock and the tube. Id buy Konis if I at all could. From all the research I have been doing I'm finding that serious motorsport types will laugh you out of the room if you have anything less than konis. TRD, KYB and Tokico do not rate a mention in grip driving circles. Buy the best dampers you can! Its this simple. Go to the monroe catalogue. Look up the size of the 'body length' of the dampers you have. Compare this measurement to all the other dampers with the same diameter. Hint - popular choices for this model are: st185-205 celica fronts, sw20 mr2 rears, sv21 camry, there are more but those are the ones most people get. I'm using st185 konis. They are good but I wish my strut tubes were a tiny bit longer so i can sit in a slightly different part of the stroke, I'm a little higher in the stroke than Id have preferred had I modified the tubes myself. The body length of the st185 or sv21 dampers is around 332mm.

You might want to look on club4ag also, I think that site is american. if I was looking to get a rwd gen rolla in the US Id grab myself an AE86 as you had them in massive numbers. There really are very few people with vintage corollas on here from the states. Welcome!

I'm sure Mazda will sell you a new engine just like any other manufacturer, it will just be expensive and you will have to buy a domestically delivered rotary, such as an RX8 13B-MSP. I'm sure the bang for buck is better from a Cosmo halfcut or the like...

I can say having had 205s on 8's on all 4 corners for a few months now, its awesome to drive. It has a slight stretch, especially according to the older tuning crowd circa 1970s. I just think its has a slight amount, which is enough to look good. The grip levels and predictability of the vehicle are awesome compared to even a 195 205 front rear mix with similar offset. I can highly recommend getting the a wider rubber on your rims, its wonderful to drive. I get that you get an increase in track, just not as much as you could get with a wider tyre. Beating gaurds out is a bit tricky but with help from some friends anything is possible.

Its sidewall flex that results in grip. I don't know how stiffening it with extra pressure or stretch would help. I also 100% disagree with your statement about wider rims equalling more stability with a strectched tyre. If you stretch a tyre, the edge of the tread is a decent distance inside the edge of the rim, so the width increase is mostly visual. Like Oh what a nissan feeling said, you can put a 205 on a 6. I just think a 205 on an 8 is a good balance of a few things you want: a good looking wheel and tyre, grip, fitment on the car and clearance, and economy of buying tyres.

The issues I see are fitment, as far as clearance of the car body. It needs room to move left and right as well as fit under. You are looking at 2 inch extension of the gaurd minimum if you have the ideal offset that goes within a half inch of the body on the inside. If you run a mismatched tyre size you can create a few other handling demons such as understeer as stated above, and I personally think the car has more poise if it has equal levels of grip on all corners. You can neatly fit 8's on all corners in a neg offset that looks good and gives enough rubber. 10s are ok if thats what you want. Id prefer 10s all round with massive rubber over 8/10 if handling at all costs was required, but a 10 is a big ask of a standard ae86 stub axle which is the smallest size available. I just feel 8's are the right choice for the chassis, until you are looking at 500hp or more really.

You should have bought TRD ke70s motor, it was pretty full house as K motors go! :happy:

10s on the rear will cause more problems than it fixes. How much power are you planning on having?

Yeah mate, I had 6 runs, and they are all listed in my thread. I had a couple of better 6 foot times. I don't think they count reaction in the time for testing purposes.

Went to Willowbank tonight with Timbo from around the corner from me. He has a JDM Kouki Levin Ae86 with a smallport. I lined up him, a vt v6, a vn manual v6 and a HG Sedan. Only the HG sedan managed to beat me. Timbo was mad keen for a first timer he probably did about 10 runs. I did 6 as follows. Hi everyone. I did a PB at Willowbank tonight. 15.511 @ 88.19 MPH (141.93klm/hr). 60 foot of 2.238 with a .302 reaction time. I was mostly concentrating on reaction times, I got it as low as 0.061 on one run but only managed a 15.626 with a 2.230 60 foot time.

So I am going tonight. Who is gonna come and film me racing a smallport ae86?

Hi Roland, just wondering why there is a gaurd vent on only one side? Does it help draw air for your intake? Looks awesome. :cool:

Yeah sam he already ahs the diff and driveline connected so he should be able to swap housings and connect the 4age.
