  1. Go for the mags and a bit of stretch fit. :D Do keep it sensible though, with a huge amount it is not only unsafe but you will have trouble with the cops.
  2. Hi Nick, You will also probably need a bit of filler, and a pressure pack of acrylic gloss black or similar to use as a "guidecoat". When you are repairing a panel you can spray a light mist coat of this, and then wet rub it with a flat block and 400grit paper. The black paint will be left where all the low spots are on the panel. Guidecoat shown here; I will also suggest that if you can get your hands on a "speedfile" that will really help get things straight. http://www.northerntool.com/images/product...s/117365_lg.jpg If you block back your repairs with a long board it really helps get the whole panel true and reduce ripples. Other than that, access to a good set of hammers and dollies and a welder. Cheers, Dougal
  3. Nice pickup, keen to see this take shape. Your plans sound good. :)
  4. Cool. I'm keen, hopefully my car will be painted and legal when the time comes...
  5. I'm also curious to hear this. I understand primer is porus, but from all I have been told wet rubbing is the thing to do from primer onwards with acrylic...
  6. Agree with Hendo about the Commodore green. I have spotted a few of these in the flesh and thought it would be quite a nice colour on an older car, and it has not been done to death like Atomic Green (yet).
  7. Thanks, I'm thinking about building a plennum for a dedicated gas setup, on a 5k for my Ke20. (Every bit of research helps).
  8. Looking shmick mate, nice work. ;) Keen to see this completed.
  9. I'm also a fan of the standard colours, I think there were a number of good ones on the early Corollas. LOL ;)
  10. Thanks for the kind words mate. I'm currently still in hospital but all was successful.
  11. Sweet KE10 mate, love the stance with the convos and bit of stretch.
  12. LOL. I know I dream of owning one, it sure ain't reality though!
  13. Sweet rig mate, well done. I was admiring this at Hanging rock, nice to know a bit of the story behind the build. I've heard Stainless is obviously more durable and a bit more attractive, but the cost is a limiting factor. I think you can get by with a Mild Steel setup or a mix of the two, but if you have the cash Stainless is better.
  14. They look like 4 spoke sprintmasters as people have said. Look good, I would not mind a set !
  15. Top job mate. I like the red piping on the seats, it breaks things up nicely.
  16. Hey Tally, love your plans mate. Good to see more early model rollas being built with inspiration from the period Jap street scene! If your interested; I know the white that originally came on my car had the code H2, this was then re-released in 1990 as "Peak White" with the code AA. Keep at it man. Dougal
  17. Looking great Rob >| Out of interest, what is your new plenum made from ? Is it alloy or steel ?
  18. Thanks Matt. Yeah that's why I'm trying to just keep plugging away. There are still a few imperfections in the body that annoy me, and I'm sure it will just get worse with time. I find that when I'm really sick of working on one area and feel like I'm going nowhere, it's good just to give it a break and move onto another panel. Will see what I can acheive next week (got a call today to say the operation will be next Saturday).
  19. Sweet. Man I'm looking forward to driving mine ! (even with only the 3k)
  20. Here are some pics from more work on the bonnet; Guidecoat: Rubbed back: Filled: Highfill: I'm still not happy with the repair on the centreline of the bonnet, this has proved to be quite tricky to repair. I will leave this for a bit and think about what I'm going to do about it. In the mean time, there is plenty more to do !
  21. Here are some pics from todays efforts. I finished baremetalling the base and sides of the doors, treated the rust and hit it with a lick of etch primer.
  22. Sweet, I bet your gonna have a handfull of fun !
  23. Looking good mate. :D I understand your frustration with the bodyline over the rear wheel arch, I've had the same problem.
  24. Hey guys, here are a few pics from recent progress. Unfortunately it's much of the same tedious work, but I'm slowly getting there. My operation will be sometime in the next few weeks so I'm aiming to do what I can before then. Once I am recovered I plan on getting the paint finished by late June and be focussing on getting a roady. (I'm taking the semester off uni). From there the plan is to do some of the suspension work after rego and get a nice set of rims for it. I have been inspired by a number of cars from Indonesia, Japan, Sweden and Norway to go for a period sporty/race look. So in the long run I plan in getting some more pricey mags and might run a mild amount of stretch on the tyres. I'm also thinking about other mods like flares and the like, but thats a while off. Engine wise I still plan on building the 5k, but am leaning towards a straight gas conversion (yes I'm stingy on fuel lol). This would mean I have a lot of the gas gear there for when I transfer to the next engine a little down the track. The second engine at this stage will be either a 4agte, or possibly something more period correct like a 2tg. Thanks for reading, will try to update a bit before I have my operation.
  25. Looks great Matt, nice that you have it all sorted. I bet you are enjoying driving it ! How does it pull compared to the 7k ?
