  1. Uh huh! Ive used a 3 phase 500 amp MIG with remote. Absolute Heaven! You can weld shit 2+ inches thick and then go to something only a few mm thick and still have the same awesome weld quality. On the other hand the cheap 120 amp 240v machine I tried was a royal pain in the arse!! can't get enough heat into the big stuff but didn't adjust fine enough for the small stuff. The one reason I don't own a MIG is because I can't afford one thats good enough to satisfy my needs. I would HIGHLY recommend you do a welding course (adult learning type course, few saturday mornings) at TAFE before you consider buying one.

  3. My brother was/is doing Mining engineering at UQ. I think hes thinking of changing courses though. From what I understand the first year is the same for everyone, then you split off into your chosen field.

  6. And its a tiny bit annoying when people ask for a "good cam" without specifying what they want the motor to do. For all I know its a speedway car. 320 degrees duration and 10,000rpm peek HP Fully Sick Bro! Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. The FAQ actually does have good info on camshafts, but apparently no one uses the FAQ anymore....

  8. It wont cool as good as an external oil-air cooler. Commodores have both the radiator heat exchanger AND and external core for the transmission. If price is an issue, go rip an old tranny cooler off something at the wreckers. Otherwise you can pickup a B&M oil cooler new for like $140.

  10. A 5K is gonna be your limit then, unless youve got about a grand to spend on a 7K.
  11. GT4s are WAYYYY heavy. Like almost falcondore heavy. The ST205 is 1500kg!!! The ST185 is a bit better at 1400kg. The weight is the big thing that put me off GT4s (I was planning to buy one, but got the silvia instead woohoo 1180kg!)

  14. Short answer is there arent any. You really need an engineers certificate for any non-standard engine that wasnt a factory option.

  18. If youre that hard on gearboxes just slap a big fat dog engagement gearset in there. Ive seen a standard box withstand 260kw drag launches for a low 12 pass so they can't be that weak. He was even trying to break it (as he was going to an aftermarket gearset).

  24. AFAIK ANY injection that came on the T motors is absolute rubbish. Use side draft webbers...
  25. And a custom AWD AE82 would be much easier to insure wouldnt it....
