Machined stock flywheels can sometimes crack or even fly apart. Remember they turn at up to 8000rpm for a K motor!! Custom billet flywheels are still light, but have more integrity to hold themselves together. Easiest way to remove the flywheel would probably be to remove the gearbox and leave the motor in place. :) Here's a couple of quick vids just to let you know what could go wrong too.... :hmm: at comentry on first vid.

Aparently there has now been to rule changes for top fuel in NHRA due to this accident: 1, Parachute release swtches must not be mounted to the fibreglass body of the car, but to the roll cage or something else solid. When the body flew off Scotts car it took this release with it so he couldn't deploy the shoots!!! 2, The "1/4 mile" for top fuel is being reduced from 1320 feet to 1000 feet. More info here...... http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti.../686860405/1580 and to quote somebody from ar.com.... ......I LIVE MY LIFE 94697/500000 mile at a time.......for those 10 seconds or less.... :(

Got the head off the other day. Life is sooo easy with the speedflow stuff now. Took all of about 45 to get it off, but you'll see why!!! :( I had a small exhaust leak, which was progressively getting worse, few days after dyno its was starting to make a rattling sound that I was starting to think may have even been detonation! :D So I was thinking this may have had something to do with the head gasket going. After getting the head off and closer inspection, it looks like the gasket was pretty well rooted befor the EFI stuff was even running. Couple of water holes in the gasket were quite rusted out (but these were the ones where theres a hole in the head, but not in the block or gasket), then once it had some boost in it was all over red rover!!! :( The gasket was actually starting to get pushed out the manifold side of the head!!! And as for the exhaust leak, once everything was removed I noticed 2x of the turbo intake flange bolts were loose, 1x had wound itself out 5mm, and 1x was missing all together!!! So I'm hoping this was all the rattling/detonation sound was, and also explains why I lost a bit of response! ;) I'm quite dissapointed in myself for actually admitting that I think a major contributing factor to the head gasket rusting so badly, so quickly is that IIRC I have never put coolant in this motor combo!! :D Couple of piccies..... This is why I have basically no lag, as well as about another 20cm of silicone, this is the extent of my cooler piping!! Top pipe is obviously the intake..... And this is why the head came off quite quickly!!!! :D .....

Gotta rub the primer anyway mate! :( I do intentionally do that sometimes - Make primer run, atleast you know you've got enough on to fill any little holes!!! :(

How do you transfer vids into the group Jip? And if you do, does this change the address of it, hence disrupting links?
-
The torque converter come off the flex plate, not the gear box. If you want to removed it there is a little plactic cover that clips into the backing plate. Remove this and it gives you easy access to the bolts that hold the torque converter and flex plate together. Turn the motor over to get all of them. Only tool required is a a ratchet with an extension and 10mm (IIRC) socket.

Just had another idea......see if you can get the whole rear panel from a hilux!!! The you have half of that work done and the window is already sealed! :)
-
Try maybe a hilux ute rear windsreen. Reason I say that is it should be about the right size, and hiluxs are everywhere, hence making it easy to find and cheap!! Then if you ever break it, can easily find another. For the same reasons I would also suggest a commo ute one, but don't know how size would compare......and who wants Holden parts in there toyota!!! :) :yak:

Fuel consumption is dependant on your right foot,........no matter what car you drive, and what configuration of motor. I can drive my 13BBP RX4 to Hobart on 25 litres. Do that in a Commodore!!! :)

Dip in boost pressure is from the same thing! When the clutch slipped the motor unloaded slightly and made less boost. :) Well thats how I see it anyway. :yak:

Right.....people need some reminding about what this thread is for, and what is not permitted here. Firstly we should be greatful to the admin staff for this thread even still being open, as trading is not permitted in regional forums. They have allowd it to continue if we can abide by certain rules, which at the moment hardly anybody is. What this thread is for: If you find or hear of a corolla or K relevant part, that may not be advertised here, let your fellow rollaclub members know about it by putting up a breif description of part, price, who has it, and how they can be contacted. If you (BEING A ROLLACLUB MEMBER) have parts to sell yourself, then put up an add in the parts trader *with appropriate info* just like any other member does. You can then put a link to your for sale thread into this thread. Same goes for parts wanted. What this thread is not for: General discussion. > We can start a "Tassie general discussion" thread if you want!! Technical queries. > there is a whole technical section for this, with KExx, AExx etc specific info. Or this is sometimes done in members rides and projects. Personal projects. > We all love seeing each others cars, and what everyone else is up to and planning....but this is not the thread for it. If you want to share your project, then go and start your own thread in the "rides and projects" section. Now....what is going to happen to this thread? The last couple of pages of this are terribly, but there is some info there that will otherwise have to be re-typed (this is mainly to you Rob74Coupe). So I will leave it there until Friday morning giving you to opportunity to cut and paste it into the appropriate sections. If this isn't done by friday, it will all simply be deleted. I think I will also go through the whole thread and delete most of it (all un-needed posts), and I may also clean it up on a weekly basis as parts are found or sold. PLEASE READ - The reason why I have actually written all of this up today is because of this PM I recieved from a Tassie member...... Hi Simon, How's it going? Just wanted to let you know that the corolla parts thread in the tassie section seems to have broken out into a discussion (newbes). I guess we've been lucky to be allowed to have a parts thread in the local section, it would be a loss if it goes. .....which I totally agree with. Please don't spoil it for the rest of us!! [/rant] Simon.
