Fuel Pump Adn Regulator Selection
Taz_Rx replied to camerondownunder88's topic in General Mechanical
Ah, with ya now. That was a holley you say? Pretty sure my holley red doesn't have that. :hmm: -
haha yeah pretty much all dyno runs are done in 4th as its a 1:1 ratio :lolcry:
-
Is it a K40 or K50. KE70 K50 and T50 shifter housings are interchangable so theoretically one of those AJPS T50 rebuild kits (for like $50) would fit the K50. :hmm:

Fuel Pump Adn Regulator Selection
Taz_Rx replied to camerondownunder88's topic in General Mechanical
That just means the pump won't put out anymore than 7psi. Whats Tom's getting at is if you're using carbs that can be quite pressure sensitive Cam's "Solex need exactly 2.84 to 4.98psi" then is neccessary to run a reg to reduce the holleys 7psi. If you were using say a down-draft weber which are much less pressure sensitive then yes, the internal relief valve would be adequate and you could get away without a reg. -
Yeah that's an early 3k dizzy, they're the ones that are easy to lock up for boosted applications. I don't think the screw really adjusts that much, maybe 2* at most, so don't stress too much about it. From memory the vac advance is supposed to give you around 8* so you can check that with a timing light pulling the vac line on and off.

+1 Pump in boot, reg in the bay. Its not like they take up much room, you can even mount them somewhere on the inlet manifold if you want. Yeah Sard is realy only EFI stuff. Personally I don't think it would suit an old skool engine bay anyway. :no2: Here's one of the carters I was talking about BTW, come with a holley reg too by the looks of it.... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Escort-Mazda-etc-Electric-Fuel-Pump-Carter-Gold-/260683049482?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb1ebaa0a -
Yeah need to have your fuel tune a bit rich if anything, then you'll know you're safe there. You'll normally end up a bich rich anyway with a blown through carb, atleast in the midrange anyway. Ignition is a bit different though. Locking the dizzy is the easy way but a bit crude really. You basically just need to retard the timing a bit whenever you've got some boost. Depending on how much you want to spend something like this can be good.... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MSD-6-BTM-Boost-Timinig-Master-Blower-Supercharger-671-/270655203566?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f044ea8ee ....The have the usual 6A CDI features but also have a built in boost retard unit. You can dial in 1-3 degrees of retarding for ever pound of boost you run.

Fuel Pump Adn Regulator Selection

I can never recommend Carter pumps enough!!! I've got a Holley red in my mazda so I'm also familiar with holleys, but if I ever had to get another pump for it I'd swap it out for a Carter. Why? Well for starter the mounting bracket is far superior to holleys simple bracket, which hence makes the pump a LOT quieter. They're also self priming which give you a lot more options in mounting locations. You also don't have to run the risk of getting a mouth full of petrol proiming the holley if you ever run out of fuel. Prices for both a pretty much the same too. You would want a Carter "green" which has the same sort of specs as the holley red - 70 odd GPH @ 7psi. As for regs, as Tom said you'll deffinately need one. Get yourself a holley as he mentioned or if you want something a little bit pretty you could get a Mallory like what I have in the RX4. You can screw a guage into the second outlet of either. -
a ke30/55 shifter won't fit in a ke70 box, you need the ke70 one or one from a T50 actually fits too. Clutch and flywheel can be from any ke30 through to ke70, with a k40 or k50. Just make sure you don't get the "some 5 speeds" (as its listed in some catalogues) clutch kit as this is for a K-T50. And :hmm: .......better go try and remove the bellhousing from a K40/50.

Amen brother. Sounds like you have prety much the same opinion as me..... "Any topgear is good topgear".... espeacially compared to some other programs they call enterainment these days. :rolls:

I've run over 20psi on both the 4k and (current) 5k I've boosted. The 5k is still going strong in Tar and that old 4k bottom end get accasionally thrashed on a "come play in the dirt day" or fishing trip etc. It all comes down to have an adequate tune that won't hurt you engine, not just how much boost you run. Unfortunately you can't run say a switchable boost controller on a supercharger. Otherwise you could have a couple of settings. Mine give gate pressure (about 6-7psi) and then 18psi at the flick of a switch...... not that I ever switch it off 18psi!

Hmm yeah that one will be filed away for future reference Trev. I don't know what Evan has deleted but he's done a good job of providing the requested info. :jamie:

Ah, I'm thinking of the AE95 awd wagons. What Tercel had the north-south?
-
Were you talking to one of my mates - Matt about a CA conversion for your car? Josh's old blue wagon?
-
This might have been what you were thinking about...? http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/29426-beginning-of-my-suzota/ Ok, so this one aparently has a tercel awd system...... but weren't tercel's still east-west! :hmm:

1, Needle and seats don't have to be changed. I just did because it was very simple, quick and free. All small downdraft webers use the same thread N&S. So i used a falcon weber N&S in a Fiat weber. I probably would have filled the bowl twice as quick with that in it. Fuel pressure needs to be slightly higher than boost pressure (when on boost), otherwise the fuel will get pushed back to the tank. There a thread in the general mechanical tech article called " how to set up your fuel system". 2, Yes you can go too low. a 4k head on the 5k (with D dish pistons) will get you down around the 8:1 mark which is about perfect. Unna..... google. :rolls:

fixed.

+1 why? Corollas have light as steering. BTW I think Dave means "More air" no "my air"
-
Any corolla shock will do you really mate. KE10 through, 20's, 30's, 55's, 70's TE and AE86's are all interchangable. So you could runs some TRD 8 way adjustable like I have if you can find some.
-
:rolls: As I said in the off-topic thread, compare what you saw last week to this..... ....not a well shorted show thats now like 12-13 years old.

Its easy to make the fluid go side to side or to the front with cornering or brakeing G's...... gives you a bit more appreciation of how much poke its got when it can slosh the fluid to the back of the resovoir like that under acceleration!!

One of my favourite RX3's.... Same race from trackside...
-
Ouch...... two less RX3's in the world! :sob:
