  1. Remember that the fuel rail returns to the surge tank and you aren't on full throttle at maximum revs for very often. We had a 600ml surge tank on a ca18det and it was more than enough. Nice and compact too. I used the same size on my old 4age. I suggest fitting an intank lift pump from a commodore as the lift pump, there is a tutorial in the FAQ. Nice and silent and neat. Then use an external fuel pump that suits your engine power requirements. Using a pump that is enormous is a waste of money and all you do is heat up the fuel by pumping it around and around the engine bay. And often you can over power standard fuel regulators with huge fuel pumps.
  2. sr20det? or sr20de? turbo or no turbo?
  3. The best engine swap is one that you can do successfully, quickly and make it reliable so you can enjoy it. No point swapping in a 4agze if it never gets on the road and if it does its always breaking down. If it's your first real go at mechanics the 5k is a good way to go. Nice and easy and from all reports is a decent upgrade.
  4. Sr20det into a ke70 is certainly not a ground breaking excercise, would be alot of fun. There are many ways to skin a cat, as they say. Where are you located? Why so much Volvo stuff? I'd be going for an r31 rear diff as that has discs already and will take an aftermarket kaaz diff. The difficulty, time and money is in the details. Note: nothing bolts in, everything is custom.
  5. That is awesome.
  6. What front bar is that? Looks awesome.
  7. Why such a harsh comment Matt? Bearing upgrade or not, most bearing failures i'd bet are due to improper installation. get the preload wrong and you'll flog it out in a few kms. The other thing is, bearings cost like $40, and take an hour or two too change. If you need to change them twice as often as normal, that might be every 50,000 instead of every 100,000km. Not a big issue i reckon. Also buy decent bearings, not china specials, i have been burnt a twice buying cheap bearings.
  8. How many people have issues with the bearings on the ae86 struts though? I put new ones on my struts and never changed them again. id Vote minimising Unsprung weight over a bearing size upgrade.
  9. I rarely hear good stories about tuners from people that know what they are talking about. How much is dyno Matt and will it fit in your shed?
  10. Not a bad list!
  11. What about scrub radius.
  12. You got about 3mths to get this thing dialed in. Then ill be back in australia and I'm coming hooning! Must be exciting to see all the parts working as intended.
  13. Congrats matty!
  14. Out of curiosity why you want heavy steel wheels?
  15. don't give up! Its goung to fire and its going to be awesome. When I was playing with ecu trigger settings I found it helpfull to draw a detailed diagram of the trigger events and firing order etc. Stab in the dark here but since you have 2 clrs firing is it possible the other two outputs are not setup correctly?
  16. I think you want to choose based on shock absorber. I never had a problem with correct length non base adjustable. I dunno what the shocks are like in the brands you mention but id be inclined to diy some struts around some good known shocks, bilstein, koni or even start with some kyb (cheap), with the option to upgrade later. Ive had too many expensive branded coilovers/shocks that have had bad shocks..... The sw20 rear kyb excel g shocks are like $200/pair new. The diy option will cost you more though.
  17. I had a facet and it never shut up. Ended up replacing it with an in tank commodore pump adapted to a ke70 tank and then everything was silent. I did a write up when I installed it, may be on ae86dc.
  18. How exciting. The anticipation!
  19. Very nice project!
  20. nice! Love the front window sticker. How did the car perform?
  21. A but of oil on the knurl when pressing makes a world of difference.
  22. Looks like number 1 injector isnt squirting properly. Swap them around and see of your nasty spark plug changes cylinders. Then if you can tell an injector is no good get the 4 of then cleaned.
  23. Me thinks you needs to read more of the internets Engine - 4age either from an ae86, ae82 or ae92. if you go the one from the ae92 you will need to cut and reweld the inlet manifold to point it the right way, the ae92 is the better engine. Gearbox - ae86 or ae71, called the T50. the t50 from the celicas will not work. Pedal box - ae71, or custom make something. You just need a way to operate the clutch hydraulic master. Gearbox cross member - ae71 only, the ae86 or ke70 doesnt fit. Wouldnt be hard to make something though. Flywheel - Comes with the engine. though research weather the ae92 smallport flywheel fits inside the t50, i can't remember. Clutch-buy one brand new to suit your engine. Clutch fork - ae71/ae86 Throw out bearing and carrier - ae71/ae86 Clutch fork clips- ae71/ae86 Clutch master - ae71/ae86 but the same clutch master came in many 80s toyotas. don't pay a premium for it, no more than $50 brand new. Clutch slave - same as clutch master. Clutch hard and soft lines - Idealy ae71, but any rwd toyota of the same era will probably fit pretty close. or just bend up some brand new tubing. Buy a new soft line. Pending which gearbox you get which dictates what side the clutch master is, you may need a banjo fitting on the clutch slave to avoid the soft line hitting your exhaust. Drive shaft - ae71 if you intend to keep the standard ae71 differential, you will need an ae86 one if you use an S series diff (don't use an S series), you will need a JDM ae86 or Ausi T18 tailshaft if you intend to use a T series diff. Fuel pump - either go a jdm ae86 tank with the intank pump, or use an external tank with an internal lift pump and use a surge tank. Do your fuel system once, and do it correctly. Spigot bearing - part number 6001 i think, just a basic bearing, suits the engine. cheap as. Loom - comes with your chosen engine. Ecu - comes with your chosen engine Exhaust - either use oem RWD jdm ae86 4age extractors for the ae82/ae86 4age, or buy some aftermarket extractors for the ae92 smallport. get a proper exhaust made by an exhaust shop for the rest. Illest stickers - Minimum 2
  24. Wicked.
  25. Yes that is all well and good, but finding a suitable shorter shock absorber insert for your now shorter ke70 strut tube is the issue.
