  1. I think you are better off buying shock absorbers brand new if you can stretch the money. you can get some bargains at the wreckers, but if you buy new they will last years, you never know when the wreckers ones are going to fail. but if they look good, and they are cheap....then i guess its worth a punt. I suggest KYG excel G part number 343113, which suit a commodore of some kind (might be VN, i thought that this particual code suited some factory lowered version). they fit great, and they were only about $150/pair (have a chat to GSL rally sport, he is always the cheapest around) As for springs, there was some king springs on ebay for about 130 a pair. Problem is its hard to know how low they are going to be.
  2. You are always best off buying proper springs, you wont get cut springs through registration (If the mechanic has any sort of inteligence) Plenty of people get done for cut springs. plenty of people get away with it. luck of the draw really. Keep in mind if the cut spring is found to cause an accident your insurance will be void. This is the most worrying part of it all in my oppinion. As for falling out, so long as you have shocks that are the appropriate length and the cut end is pointing up into the chassis they wont fall out, its not entirely ideal though. Better off getting a pair of springs 2nd hand to save any hastles.
  3. And that is why playing with old cars is so good. If there is any evidence of deteriation on the points, i reckon best to replace them given they are only ~$15 or so. Points that look reasonable have given me unreasonable dramas before.
  4. yeah we try and keep a lid on mis-diagnosis as much as we can, but not always easy to catch it all. Be sure to let the mods know if you find stuff that is blatantly wrong and we can delete.
  5. What about if one valve is burnt? I had that once, and it was causing a bit of a misfire on that cylinder. And it showed up on the compression test that that cylinder was low on compression. The wet and dry compression test can be used to get an idea if the low compression is caused by rings or valves. You do the test like normal, then you put a teaspoon of oil down each cylinder and test it again. If you get a drastic increase in compression then you deduce that the oil is making the rings seal better, if there is no drastic increase then you can deduce that it is a valve that is still not sealing properly. (or the headgasket is blown across either the water/oil gallery or another cylinder, at which point the head has to come off anyway) 150ish across all four, you gotta be happy with.
  6. The valves are in the head, and if the valves arent sealing properly, then it will show up in a compression test.
  7. I don't use the facebook app, if i want to use facebook on the phone i browse to the mobile site in the web browser. Thus there are no notifications flashing up. and it doesnt require any permissions to stuff. There are some theories to suggest that stuff that is "deleted" on facespace isnt actually deleted, it is just hidden....
  8. If you are serious about a decent diff in a ke70, you would be hard pressed to beat this i reckon. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/68355-f-series-diff-with-trd-lsd-to-suit-ke70ae86/
  9. None "go in" without substantial modification.
  10. Best to give a proper brake shop a call. Where abouts you located?
  11. Woah! Very nice. What sort of paint you using? Looks fantastic.
  12. yeah I had excel g KGB (sw20 rears) and they weren't enough for 6kg. Better shocks were on my list too. Koni/Bilstein? :D
  13. What front springs do you have?
  14. 2 great cars!
  15. A good intercooler setup has a lot more positives compared to the negligible lag. The big things is to choose your turbo wisely. Most people that complain about lag are using the wrong turbo.
  16. We did ca18 into ae86 a few yes ago. We got the standard speedo to work, If I recall correctly the standard speedo cable plugged right into the ca18gearbox. Give it a google. And the popular Hyundai excell radiator worked well with either standard hoses or slightly modified ones. Google that too.
  17. Is all that legit?
  18. I ate too much.
  19. A decent fuel system can be $500 on its own (pumps surge tank good hose good hose clamps) tailshaft? hydraulic clutch arrangement?
  20. I caught the end of the speed week but didn't see the ke70. What engine the ke70 got?
  21. I saw someone riding one of these rediculously small motorbikes on coronation drive today, never seen one before. It looked like that black one in the background of one of your photos. Sooo small.
  22. Well done mate. And also well done for doing the job properly! Alot of people wouldn't have shaved that head and cleaned the block so well and then wondered why it blows again in a few months!
  23. Woohoo! Great progress. You'll have to take me for a spin next cruise.
