I had a similar issue. I don't know if it was old age of the points or what. But when the car got warm the metal of the points expanded and the points gap closed (this is a guess). I managed to get it to a mates and recapped them and it was fine.

I ran a 4AGZE with an SC14 and bigger injectors on a single inline walbro 225 tapped into the stock lines. Worked fine. Never had surge issues. I never tracked it though. A small 500mL surge tank would help.

Gave it a "detail". Might scrub up with a cut and polish.

You can buy premade headlight relay kits on ebay for about $20. Might be worth a look. All you need to sort is a trigger. They work out cheaper than buying relays and plugs. Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/122121990123

Finally got pulled over. So in all my shitboxes I've destroyed/owned the most modern and stock one I've ever owned got picked on :D Cop was a champ though local guy just had more of a casual conversation than a talk down too. Needs mod plates, shorten the blast pies, and he reckons lose the rear wing as its a bit long $121 fine and one point. But the car is on a list now. Still not a bad run considering lol
