Where Do I Find A Guide On Installing Ae71P.box Into Ke70
rian replied to chrisfindlay's topic in General Mechanical
Just try it, it's not even hard. Take your entire dash out to make your job easier, even the de-mister tube thingy. The only hard part is drilling the hole for the master cylinder and the 2 extra studs. You just need to make a template out of carboard or something that aligns off the 6 studs at the back of the pedal box, mark where the extra wholes needs to be on the template, put the template up to the firewall and align the holes, then mark the extra holes you need to drill on the firewall. Then drill them. Oh and drill out the spot welds on the clutch cable bell-mouth thingy where the clutch cable passes through the firewall, then pull it off, you won't be needing it and it get's in the way of the master cylinder reservoir. -
What? Nah man shells are in the ocean/on the beach/around a hippy's neck, that looks more like a car or something?

Wow 7kg/mm will be super stiff. You're not going to daily it are you? Because I have 5kg/mm springs in my KE70 and it sucks for dailying. What damper (make/model of car) are you using in the 48mm strut by the way?

Broom broom.

^Hey that looks like a car? Is that a car? I think it's a car.

Not at all. I now have 4 tailshafts lol, the T series I bought ages ago, the auto KE70 tailshaft that was originally in the car, the manual KE70 tailshaft you gave me and now this new AE71 tailshaft. But this one looks right, 22 spline yoke at one end, what looks to be a Borgy flange at the other, I didn't measure the length or anything but I'm pretty sure it is an AE71 tailshaft. Pretty keen to actually be able to drive my car!

Got an AE71 tailshaft! If this doesn't work with my setup I'm going to be very annoyed. Next update it should be a drivable 4AGE KE70!

Might have found an AE71 sedan manual tailshaft, hopefully it's not an S series tailshaft like what the last guy tried to sell me...

Looks amazing! Much cooler than a Corolla, I wish I got into Minis instead of Corollas :(

Ahh I see

^ʞ©$ɟ yeah, what are you going to buy? I'd get a Honda, something with Vtec.

Awesome news! Any vids? ;)

^Thanks for the input Stuart, I have a feeling it's a few issues that are causing the high idle problem. Today I discovered that the intake gasket was missing a big chunk (yes I had bought all new gaskets for this engine but wasn't planning on replacing them until I knew the engine was running and I wouldn't be constantly pulling off the manifolds etc) and was causing an air leak. I also discovered the timing was out, and I figured out how the idle up/cold start valve works and how to remove it. So I think all these things were contributing to the high idle, plus not having any coolant for the coolant sensor to read the temperature of. So most of these issues have been sorted: the cooling system is mostly plumbed up, the gaskets are being replaced and I'm going to borrow a timing light next time I come down so I can set the timing. The other thing I did today was install a water temp sensor, I'm really happy with it. Here's how I did it (excuse the shitty camera phone pictures, my camera is in Brisbane): Removed this bung from the AE82 4AGE external thermostat housing (AE82 4AC external thermostat housings have a TVS sensor here which you can also remove if you're using it in a 4AGE swap): Replace it with a 16x1.5 to 1/8 npt -27 thread adapter, I cut the adapter down a bit because it was too long: Then use some thread sealant and put the water temp sensor into the thread adapter, then use more thread sealant and put the thread adapter into the external thermostat housing: So I'm going back to Brisbane in about an hour, next time I come down here I should have this engine running smoothly.

A 1.6L engine would mean it is an AE71 panelvan (4AC engine). If it's a 5K it would be a 1.5L, but a KE70 panelvan. AE71s are a lot more valuable than KE70s because they are a much better base for the popular 4AGE conversion, plus I've heard AE71 panelvans come from the factory with the same struts and brakes as AE86s. $3500 is about the price good condition AE71s sell for, but we all know they're not worth it....

all you really need is a lil bit

212mm flywheel would be from a bigport 4AGE, so get a pressure plate or clutch kit for a JDM 4AGE AE86, that's what I did.
-
Yes you do, just plug it in and it will go!
-
Indicators look good! I wonder if they'd fit T18 bars...

Yeah bigport and smallport should both use the same 1-wire 02 sensor, same part number according to Bosch. I haven't got the engine light hooked up but I'll do that tomorrow. That's probably the easiest way to find out what's going on. I've had a few more goes at getting the engine running properly but no luck, I've discovered that the engine is not hunting when the TPS is disconnected, but it's still idling very very high. Sounds like 3000+ rpm (i'll hook up the tacho tomorrow). The engine smells pretty bad of fuel as well. I'm going to check for air leaks around the manifold and throttle body tomorrow.
-
So that wouldn't be the cause of the problem?
-
^Yeah way too pricey for me, i'm poor :( . Okay so this car runs now, but not so well. Basically the engine is 'hunting' or whatever it's called at idle. It seems to be revving really hard. Here's a video: Has anyone had this problem before? Here's some info that might help if anyone feels like figuring this out: There is no coolant in the engine/cooling system. ECU has been disconnected from power for quite some time (maybe it is reprogramming itself or something?) The throttle body was completely closed while the engine was running. I didn't let the engine idle for very long, does anyone think it would eventually go back to an steady idle? I didn't know how high it was revving (tacho not plugged in) but it didn't sound right so I just turned the engine off. The engine was not doing this when it was in the AE82. And just to confirm, this is the wire for the injectors from the interior loom isn't it: Thick black wire with red trace, single pin plug And this is where i plugged it into the engine loom: near the coil/ignition module thing If anyone has had any problems like this please post it up. Thanks.

Roof racks look crappy on KE70s, no exceptions. It's possibly the silliest trend car fags have come up with.

How many pins on the plug in the sixth picture? That could be the AFM, and in that case the yellow in the forth picture would be air temp sensor I think.
