Hey, I am very close fitting a newly worked 5k in my wagon and was wondering is there anything needed when installing the new engine OR something that i must not forget? Also, will i need to rebuild and recurve the distributor to deal with the new engine stats or will it be fine until a later date??? Thanks..... Any comments would be muchly appreciated!

heya all, i happen to have all the bits required to build myself a ae35 (ke35 + 4A-C) for free! i want to get it going with what i have but i don't have a clutch master cylinder. what i want to know is, can a ke10 brake master cylinder be used as a clutch master? i use to own a 4A-C ke11 and as far as i can remember this was done, maybe with some interal changes?? i know you all probably think I'm tight but i want to have the car running and be able to say it didnt cost a cent... cheers scott.

Hey All, Been going through the KE30 troubleshooting all the little problems, and the only thing left that doesn't work on the dash is the "Brake" warning light, that sits with the hand brake light. I'm assuming that its a low fluid level warning or similar, and also assuming that it connects to the sensor in the side of the distribution block thingo on the firewall. What i want to know is under what circumstances is this light meant to come on? There is currently no fluid whatsoever in the front brake circuit as i have changed to new front calipers that have yet to be bled, and the light still remains off with the ignition turned on. It's not a huge issue, but it…

Hey All, My name is Adam, and i'm currently in the process of fixing up a KE30 to be a daily driver. The problem i have at the moment is that the wheels i've sourced foul on the struts, and i imagine it will only get worse once tyres are fitted. So what i want to know, is do all the 4 * 114.3 RWD 'rollas run the same offset between the strut body and the wheel bolt up face, or will a later model hub (perhaps one that came factory fitted with wider tyres than a ke30) give me more clearance? If there is nothing available i will turn up some proper bolt on spacers with correct concentric locating rings, but i'd prefer to keep this as legal (and cheap :P) as …

hello gentlemen. I'm wondering if any of u guys have any info about putting a power rack and pinion steering in an early rolla. this is the final thing i will be doing to my ke30, if anyone has seen something similar done it may save me alot of measuring and research. :P

  9. Hello, ive just installed a 3k and 5 speed box into my 1968 toyota corolla. I encountered a problem when i realised that my stock ke10 tailshaft doesnt fit the 5 speed. So i ventured to the wreckers and bought a ke70 tailshaft (which is two piece; Unuseable). I bought this coz the spline off this tailshaft fits the 5 speed output shaft. i was going to take apart the uni and use it on my stock ke10 driveshaft, but alas, the uni is a different size and can't be swapped. All i need to know is what one piece tailshaft from later model corollas will fit the output shaft on my 5 speed, so i can get one and cut it down to fit my ke10. Or even better one that is the right size an…

How do you tell if a fuel pump is on it's way out? I've got 2 fuel pumps in my car, one is a facet to fill the surge tank, that's noisy and always has been, no problems there. The other is apparently out of a VL, and has always had a bit of a whirr to it, but I'm now noticing it a lot more, it's gotten a lot more noisy. The car still seems to drive okay, it revs alright and all that, doesn't appear to be leaning out. Is the noise an indication that the fuel pump is on it's way out? Also, looking through eBay (yay for eBay), there are so many fuel pumps listed up "to suit VL", but they're all different part numbers? They all look the same, is there a certain one th…

hi I own a 1984 Ke70 sedan. It drives perfectly for long distances untill you turn off the engine, then the car refuses to restart and when it does it constantly stalls and has zero acceleration. Even if you let the car sit still for a few hours it still doesn't work. However if you let the car "rest" overnight it is magically fixed and runs fine again untill u stop again. Noone has any idea what is wrong with it, the only thing i haven't done is try an exorcism. Can anyone help?

Cracked open 2 of my old T50 gearboxes today, one of them is a JDM AE86 box, the other is an ADM TA22 box. The JDM box has 2 missing teeth off the layshaft (2nd gear, I think), and apart from that can't tell very much. However, the oil was replaced less than a week before it self destructed, and the oil that came out previously had lots of sparkles. The TA22 box has lots and lots and lots of shiny sparkles. I replaced the TA22 box because it was making a hell of a lot of noise, and it kept popping out of gears all the time. Both boxes seem to have lots of little scratches across the wear face, and both of them also seem to have a bit of corrosion on the g…

Hi all, Just spent two two weeks rebuilding my carby and it was all jammed up with gunk.. would an oil catch can help this? If so could i just run the tube from the block in to an old "MILO" tin. Would i have to vent the gas back in to the carby? Since my block has two "breather" holes should i run them both in to the can?? might seem like a silly question but some body might have played with this before! thanks in advance..

Hey guys, Long time reader, first time poster. This is possibly the stupidest thing done, but has anyone put a supercharger onto a 4K before? I have a KE20 that has had a fair bit of work done on the engine (Only gets used on a track) and have a small (SC12) supercharger to put on. If anyone has any information on doing this, I would like to hear. Josh :D

Andrew, I promised you I would post you a picture of the 5K engine, to show you how clean it is now ! To fill you all in. This engine came from a KE55 that had been done up by someone, unknown. A 5K & K50 g/box had been added and the interior done up. Anyway the cancer set in, and the car was doomed to be a "paddock basher" in a large orchard near Caloundra, where it was used to "get around" the orchard, on muddy tracks. When Andrew & I saw it, it had grass inside the car (growing I think) and you have never seen such a dirty engine. The car had more cancer that the Qld Health system, and there was only one place for the body. Back to Japan, …

G'Day Peoples, Just wondering what type of spark plugs you guys use and how often you change them? Also.....do you think (say that you prefer NGK spark plugs) that their Iridium spark plugs are any more effecient in a 3K/4K/5K engine than standard spark plugs? Your views please.

An idea... Someone should try putting Falcon rear discs on. I had a brief look at the brackets, and without measuring everything, it looks like it wouldn't be hard to get to bolt up. The problems I can see are that the bracket may be too thick, and that the discs are 5 stud, so you'd have to get them redrilled to 4 stud. But the calipers are nice and beefy, cheap as chips, and the discs are BIG and VENTILATED.

I bolted on Haikals Nikki carb onto the wagon today, the carb is either off a Mazda 808 or a 1600, not sure. Anyway, everything bolted up alright, I even found a random bracket lying around in my pile of junk that I could use as a throttle cable bracket, the only cable that isn't really ideal is the choke, but it wasn't before anyway. The end of the sheath isn't clamped down, and I can't think of anyway to clamp it down. Anyway, after having some dramas trying to set the floats etc, everything seems to be good. OK, I am getting sick and tired of people talking up welding there diffs and so on so heres a simple explaination for you all, there are there MAJOR types of diff setup, open limited Slip (LSD) Locked. OPEN: simply where its easier to turn the wheels the power will go. E.G you are turning a corner and the outside wheel starts to spin, all of the power will go to that wheel, so your car will slow down as you have NO power to te ground. LSD: A limited slip diff will try to distro the power evenly between both wheels, E.G you are turning a corner and the outside wheel starts to spin, The diff …

hey guys, my clutch in my ke70 is slipping again. it is only the cable operated one, so there is no chance of hydraulic oil getting in onto the pressure pate or anything (as my trusty haynes manual explains). i adjusted the circlip in the engine bay and it was a good 4-5 grooves loose, but since then i can really really notice that the car revs are high, but the car is nuggeting along. another sign that its getting worse is that i use to be able to, when wet, give more revs and dump clutch a bit quicker and get light wheelspin. i don't really do many burnouts and crap, but g/b was changed prob a yr ago now, don't u think that the mechanic wuld have sed 'yeh clutch is …
