  1. Well its hard to say. I run softer springs, maybe 2.5-3kg/mm range or so. I need them longer cause they crush lots when the car comes down. I'm using commodoore length shocks, VB commodoore I think. Gt gas monroes, they work fine for now. Once I fit the adjustables up fron Ill need adjustables rear too to balance her out. All I can say is, if you wanna run it hard n low, maybe some TRD Greens. 8 Way adjustable, can be rebuilt I think so theyre shocks for life. Probably as short as sierras almost. Maybe shorter. At the end of the day theyre designed for a sprinter so they may be a touch short for a ke. If I were you Id use Commodoore shocks though. They keep my springs quite captive, should keep shorter ones fairly well captive. On the Rollaclub paddock bashing weekend we proved that its very very hard to have the rear springs fall out, even hitting gullies at 70klicks with 2 snapped rear shock absorbers. It didnt handle well, or feel safe, but it didnt drop the springs either. Why such a short spring? With that length and rate its most certainly for track drift. If it was for the street aswell Id be setting it up a little more dual purpose. Maybe 5kg springs at the most. Then you can retain a little driveablility too. Just my 2cents, eh. Its your car, do as you wish. I'm just not a fan of doing a cheap trick to my suspension to make an underpowered car drift. I mean, all the serious drifters have some serious HP behind them. Id be looking to get more power from the car and running the suspension in a driveable state, if it was me.
  2. Its not a t50. My guess is a k box, either k50 or k40? Not too sure though, but its not a t50, w box, R154 or any other Toyota box that I know of. Whats it got stamped on it? Or is all you have the pictures?
  3. That Camry V6 idea is where its at. With a little digging and research its actually quite possible. Not as much fabrication involved for sure as a VN v6. more power and more torque too! The reason youve never seen a Camry v6 doing a burnout is because no-ones really gone and built one that Ive seen. No-ones saying it so I may as well. Do the VN motor if you want a front heavy, very powerful and fast rolla with tonnes of understeer. Basically if you want to die. I remember a while back someone on this forum and Ebay trying to sell a ke70 with a VN v6 in it. The problem he had was it was illegal as hell and he wasn't able to sell it to anyone who could actually get it regoed, from memory. Why not just buy his steaming pile of ke70 and see what you would have been doing all the work to achieve? It was going cheap in the end, don't know if it ever sold. Have a search in the ebay items thread for v6 ke and see what you find. Also: How old are you? Are you restricted under the new anti-fun-on-the-roads laws? What gearbox are you using and how will you make it fit? Whats the car for? Will you need rego or is it a summernats burnout warrior that lives on a trailer? Whats your budget?
  4. They are all stupid and ignorant at insurance companies. For some reason because I'm over 25, AAMI, a very by the book and inexpensive insurer, is covering my Red Spirit and all its mods with a 3rdparty, fire and theft policy. The only thing that sucks is, they only pay out 5 grand but you get the option to buy the car back. So either way, as long as its not totally burned out I'm fine. Ive told them about and even showed them the motor, ecu, recaro seat, electronics, coilovers, the lot. They will even cover my big brakes once they go on. They didnt ask me for any mod plates or anything at all. I even spoke about them in their presence to see if they just needed reminding to ask, which they didnt. I'm happy as long as losing the car isnt a total failure and anything I damage is covered. You would be amazed what insurers will cover sometimes. I remember being in the assessors shed one time, and looking at a WRX STI that was so incredibly banged up. Smashed wheels, completely gone front end, mega twisted chassis, all the glass popped etc. I asked the assessor what the story was. He said streetracing on the Storey Bridge. I laughed and said so hes not getting paid out then eh. He says, yeah were paying the claim. So even though the idiot had had a head on with an innocent motorist at high speed in a 60zone while racing in the oncoming lane, they were gonna pay the claim. Some insurers have a wider scope of acceptance than others. He did hint that AAMI were only the underwiters of the policy but the actual company which sold him the insurance was Just Car Insurance, who has a wide scope for payable claims. On another note, if you don't mind me asking, how much is the Shannons insurance? Is it full comprehensive? I bet its about 1200 a year if it is. Shannons always struck me as the most exxy insurer.
  5. Great progress Andrew. That cars gonna be lush. The undercar surge setup is awesome. Wheres the tank from?
  6. That is so gay. They can write us tickets and honestly they have no idea what they are talking about. I had a cop point to my thermofan once and tell me that it needed a shroud. Its physically impossible to touch the spinning blades. Idiot. If they cannot tell a thermofan from a clutch fan were all screwed. Anyhow, looks like a very interesting beastie. I tried sierra shocks but they were the complete opposite of handling. They were far too short and preloaded the springs slightly to go on. You need a decent amount of droop or your suspension will not work properly at all, and you will slowly wreck the shocks with all the impacts to full extension. Plus they were soooooooo stiff. It was vertebre crushing material. They lasted one trip around the block. In my opinion its one mod that people do to their sprinters which should never be done to a keto. The ride height is slightly different on a keto and they just don't work. don't let the rego lapse while its off the road, or you will find it harder to rerego with a 4age in it. All the best.
  7. Thank smeg for that eh. Get a life.
  8. Very similar to the linea sports. If they are stamped Weds, there's your answer. JIL cast into them will mean they were made in Japan. Eliminating the chance of them being the Italian made Linea sports. All i don't really have any clues on is the model name. Is your car in Rides and Projects?
  9. Repaint in Original colour ftw. Its awesome as it is, Dougy. No windows = privacy. Sweet.
  10. Looks great! Where are you? What you gonna do with it?
  11. Go to the rides and projects area and use the search function. Cheers.
  12. If money isnt too much of a worry and you want a great setup, Id say AE86 coilovers, with the tubes cut down to suit your favourite shocks. Approximately 6kg springs if you will be streeting the car. Some good aftermarket dampers from TRD, Tokico, Koni or splash right out and get some Bilsteins made just the way you want. Adjustable shocks are good if you wanna hit the track at some stage. For the rear, run it a bit softer, Id say 3kg springs for street and grip driving, maybe 4 or 4.5 if you wanna drift it a little. If your running adjustable shock absorbers up front you might need the same here to balance it out so the car is a stable as possible. Rear coilovers aren't really necessary as the rear end is pretty simple and effective as is. Ive heard of people using motorbike dampers and all kinds of things here. Coilovers here will generally need some reinforcement made to the floor above them for best safety and results. Add some thicker swaybars, and an adjustable Panhard rod to correct the rear end as it goes lower, and add urethane bushings all over. The other major aspect of handling would be having an LSD rear end which helps with controlling the car. There are plenty of oid Toyotas you can steal a diff from, but the ultimate would be a Jap AE86 rear end. It will have an LSD and disc brakes 9/10 times you find one, and buying onw whole does save an absolute shitload of time in the long run. Get the AE86 rear tailshaft section too while your at it. If your TE72 has a T series rear end (like AE86 but with drums) already the just buy a new LSD from TRD or Cusco, and slip her in...
  13. The coilovers need a different design of spring. If you already have them just source the springs and bits you need and use them. Far superior. Also, try to look for a 5 or 6 kg spring, it will be a little stiff, but I reckon 3kg is a bit soft for a lowered front end.
  14. It appears the crowd is pretty divided. Honestly, put on whatever you like. we've made you aware of pretty much everything that might be of detriment with doing it, and its up to you to decide. Please, do not ever go down the big bolt on spacers and positive offset wheels route. Apologies to anyone who has but at least get some dish happening. I have seen the odd pair of 17s on a 70 that were tolerable, but I reckon if you must do it get some with a little dish off of an R31 or Silvia, as someone said above. I guess I just like my cars to be a little original styled. At least at first glance. 15s look huge on a 70 anyhow.
  15. 17s on a 70? don't expect much help from most of us on here. They will not fit. Firstly, wrong pattern, secondly, wrong style, thirdly, wrong offset. You will 100 percent make the thing slow as a wet week, and handle like absolute poop. Think maybe 3/4s as quick as it is now. You must be from Sydney.
  16. Simply stunning. Thats the best looking ke70 I have ever seen! Well done!
  17. I see a little sunlight through the clouds...
  18. Pretty much. Goes like this: Buy a 5k Remove 4k Insert 5k Turn key Wont have to worry about things like efi fuel systems or wiring. Easy peasy, and you will learn lots about your car. Buy a Gregorys manual before you start, follow the instructions. Cars are hard to break, its pretty obvious when you look and think. Enjoy.
  19. It looks like a big job. Anything is possible? Are the sills strong or rusted again? Would it be safe to hoist it for a look at the rails? Looks like its had acid rain on it or something, those holes in the pillars are shocking. If you do decide to fix it I can send you some metal sections from my spares car. I love the front end, can we have a front on shot of it? If you decide to part it out put me down for the front beaver panel. Cheers.
  20. Has someone updated the Rollaclub 1/4 mile list? This is surely the quickest ke70 on there. Well done.
  21. They are good to turbo. Very strong. Buy a 4agze if you wanna do that. Just remove the supercharger and turbo it as is.
  22. Just caught up on your build, its coming along really well. What kind of camera are you using? Your photographs are quite good quality. Keep up the good work. Try to resist the temptation to buy a front wheel drive with powersteering, ok. :)
  23. If you wanna do something dodgy for more performance, then distill some methanol off your home brew and put it in the washer bottle, then drill a hole in the aircleaner and use the washer pump to fire it into the carb. Gives a good entertaining hit of power. Much more than those fan thingos.
  24. Its hardly something that needs to be discussed on PM. Let us know how the Cuscos go in the longer term. So you never fitted the t3 product?
