I want the stig to put my ae71 around the track sooo bad. Ah hell I wanna do it too. I wonder if theyll let me... I think this show had signs of settling in to a groove emerging. I also thought the hosts seemed a little more comfortable with it all, which made me a bit more comfortable wathcing it. I personally don't mind them trashing the cars. Tell me you never thrashed a rental car in your life, its their job to thrash them. I wanna know how easy they break, especially with all the fourbys and utes they've tested already. Where I come from if you can't do that to it, you'll be stuck in the middle of nowhere. I'm sure they'll just drift around in the supercars on the tarmac like the UK boys do, when they get a chance. They might have to borrow peoples own cars to get to test at the top of the market, so they will really have to behave. I must say, that cold revving to the limiter was ghey. Poor car.

Its an old thread but the information contained within is still solid. If you change to an A series engine then you should just get all the steering parts as well from the ae71 and bolt them in. It will all fit and hey presto, a rack and pinion conversion with zero modded parts.

It'll be parked so tuning doesn't matter does it? I'm out of town Friday, back Saturday night, up early Sunday for this, then home for the grand final in that arvo. Squeeze it in! My car isn't really a show car so I dunno about bringing it for the showing. Think Ill just spectate.

I was once told if you fit a bigport 4age head and turbo it it will work on the 4afe. I was told the head swap will drop the compression, as well as going to a higher hp design than the fe head design which is aimed at economy. Add manifold, turbo, intercooler, all the needed accessories, and you're away. 4agte on a budget. Or so Ive heard. Never tried this myself but its worth googling to see who's done it.

Ive heard of people using diffs from ae86jdm, ra40 ra60, t18, r31 nissan, Hilux RN2x, Tarago YR21, TA22. Point is you can make any diff fit as long as you can get the mounts on the housing swapped for those from your old diff. The only ones from that list that will bolt straight in are the ae86, t18, and ra40/60 and TA22, afaik. All of which are T series Toyota diffs which can have lsd fitted.

For me the main problem is the older guy. I see what they've done. In the uk market theres the Bossy old alphamale, the dignified slightly eccentric gent and the boy racer. Here we get the knowitall old alphamale, the nerdish eccentric bloke, and the young bogan/hoon. They had the right intention but I dunno about our 'Clarkson' character. He seems bland, unfunny, and hard to listen to. I can relate to the hoon and the eccentric, but not the other guy. Oh well, other than that, its a tried and tested format so if they get it wrong Ill be surprised as hell.

Seems you know what you are doing. I prefer the 4a but any k motor can be tuned to reasonable specs. Got any P plate restrictions where you are?

Theres 2 common mods for this, one of which will work on a stock ke70. You can rebuild your rack with a Quaife quick ratio rack and pinion kit for AE86 from http://www.palmside.co.nz If you run ae86 struts then you can use ae86 power steering arms. The PS arms do not change the number of turns lock to lock, but they do increase the amount of lock achieved in the 2.9 turns of the standard rack and pinion. The quaife kit achieves similar lock to standard, but does it in 2.5 turns. I use the quaife kit in my ae71, it even was able to be built into the standard steering rack housing. One thing i have noticed, the ke70 standard steering arms are shorter than ae86 manual steering arms, but not as short as ae86 power steering arms. Therefore I reckon the ke70 steering arms would be a nice accompaniment to the quick rack. Meaning it should have more lock than any ae86 with manual arms and a quaife kit.

I just hope you don't kill anyone innocent, like a person walking their dog for instance, while you are learning your life lessons. To have had 2 speeding fines on your Ps and still have a license is almost unheard of. Quit while you are ahead.

Ive just been through a whole lot of bs with cheap tyres, don't go there. Bob Janes brand is appalingly bad. Buy Dunlop/Michelin/Bridgestone/etc. Stick with the big, well known companies that can make nice true, well balanced tyres. I had some Korean tyres that were so out of round it wasn't funny. As said above, you need to invest in some wheels to fill your gaurds, then worry about tyre fitment for the stretch look. I don't give a hoot about a tonne of stretch, i have a little, enough to firm up the feel of the tyre, and no more. The way I see it, more rubber equals more grip, so I always cram fattys on there. Nothing wrong with a 205 on a 7J rim, IMO. Enjoy! Nice KE btw. :)

Yep, ae71 has same struts as ae86, but ke70 vans do not.
