  1. Up until this week I hadnt tried any of the 100 octane, but now I have. Just like every one says, its far superior. I had been experimenting with all the different kinds of boosters with mixed success. I believe that in the long term a professionally blended and quality controlled fuel is always going to be better than whatever sludge i can mix up in the tank. The car ran far too erratically on a shitload of booster.
  2. Most people I've spoken to believe that in QLD enough money will get anything on the road. That said, I know a few people with professionally engineered cars that still get defect notices so go figure.
  3. Gday Tom. Most people toss the standard struts in favour of the fatter AE86 ones. This allows you a far broader choice of shock insert, as the whole ae86 aftermarket opens up to you. Also, you can get sw20 mr2, camry, or celica inserts in place of the standards as a shorter stroke option. If you keep the standard struts you can generally only find monroes and gabriels and the like, nothing too special, but fine for most people. I have no idea about short stroke options with standard struts. It really is worth the switch to AE86 struts as they have bigger rotors and pad area, thicker stiffer struts, and more spares available. The braking improvement is dramatic. AE86 struts will bolt up fine if you use ae86 struts, and AE86 steering arms, while utilizing the ae71 strut tops.
  4. If your going to have to do something with the dizzy then you will be better off with a bigport 4age. No mods required to the ignition system. The gearbox is in the car already, all you need is about $300 to set up your fuel system nicely. It will fit your engine mounts perfectly, and also your gearbox. There are rwd versions floating around, if you really want it to be easy to install. Its EFI too so no more fine tuning and better when cold.
  5. Hopefully the clouds stay though.
  6. http://www.hasselgren.com/products.html Read the fine print at the bottom. You can get a set of coated FA pistons for 800 US Dollars. That is a bargain. If they had the same gudgeon pin size then this would have to be the ultimate in NA performance pistons. These things rev to 12000rpm!
  7. So you haven't found the writing under the bonnet then? :P
  8. My spirit brochure claims 58kw, and a whopping 127NM of torque. Put it on a dyno, that would be so funny!
  9. I just hate those people who act like the rules of society don't apply to their behavior. Like the people who do the shopping and can't walk the extra 10metres with the trolley and just dump it behind my car. The whole attitude of, I must be seen to be doing the right thing, even though I'm not. If no-ones watching, ill steal/rob/kill/humiliate/bully/cheat/be lazy, but I will lecture you when I catch you doing the same. Also, those people who drive in such a way as to weave constantly and try to maintain about 15klm/hr faster than everyone else on a busy motor way. Two words. BRAKE CHECK. I take pride in boxing, blocking and brake checking them. When they start tailgating me the fun begins. So fun. And the assholes who pull up in the bus only lanes, to avoid the cue at the traffic lights. I throw 20 cent pieces at their paintwork.
  10. I used to live up in T-Ba, and one of my brothers mates, by the name of Preston, has a 4age ke70 up there somewhere.
  11. http://www.caranddriver.com/previews/11088...amg.html?al=145 I pulled out of a toll booth alongside one of these today. It just launched. No wonder. 6.2 Litre. V8. 4wd . Gets to 100km/h about 2x as fast as my car.
  12. The 'meeting' was fun. All you pikers should be very upset. Teddy bought dinner for all of us. I imagine there may be some pictures posted a bit later. Anyhow, it was nice to be able to put a few faces with a few names.
  13. Buy it, does it have rear discs? Looks awesome. I have a mate who would snap it up in a second for 4500. How rare are these things exactly?
  14. I could stare at a blacktop all day, sexy looking even on the crate. Well done, Ive heard that the 4wd drive-train in these isn't too tuff, so maybe need to boost its strength before boosting the 4a, otherwise, looks sweet as. can't wait to see the result. How heavy is the AE95 4wd? Blacktops love a light car. The turbo will fix that though.
  15. Dude, there is a general mechanical section where you can start a topic if you like. I know the answer to your query, but in future please post your own topic in the right section. Hijacking sucks. 54NM from memory. Make sure the bolts are fine or you may snap one off. Thats a lot of torque for a little bolt.
  16. Yeah a beams, or a 3sge Blacktop from a lexus altezza, to be more specific, is a fantastic motor that performs extremely well and is quite tough. Titanium valves and whatnot. Very exxy though. There wont be much change from 10k from that one. Fits nicely in a 70 though. For a budget option get a Bigport 4age, you can have it in the car over a weekend and your only really looking at maybe 1500 dollars if you have the time to look around for parts at the right price. They perform better than their quoted 86kw sounds, as they make a fair bit of bottom end compared to a 20valve 4age, which will make very little power below 3500rpm. Bigports have been worked up to an atmo figure of 190hp fairly regularly, so there is room to move if you want to mod it later on. There is always turbocharging...
  17. Well, if theres R&D involved, go for it dude. I hear Mick is great with turbos. I think were all keen to see the thing come together. What would I know anyway, Ive never built that combination. I'm such a noob. I don't even know Mick.
  18. Id love to do the cruise, but I have to pick up my lady at midnight in the city. Ill bring the car though, as I'm not really a drinker. Does Hogs Breath know there is a show and shine in their car park Saturday night? Bring a UHF walkie talkie if you are cruising, adds to the fun if you can talk it up while cruising.
  19. ok, I'm in. I better come now, since its about 3 minutes walk from home at Indro. Should be a good chance to meet you all.
  20. Please get a T28. There is a reason they are the common choice, because they work properly on a small 4 banger. If you use a bigger unit you will definately stand out, cause youll be the one at the back of the pack waiting to spool up. Seriously though, Ive been reading this thread for a while. Best of luck with your build, but please consider the things peple have suggested. How many 200+ hp 750kg cars have you owned? Are you really up to it? If you are, is your drivers license? Do you have the funds? If you can pull it off with under 3 weeks of turbo lag, I'll be very impressed. :)
  21. I bet someone here in Australia would love to buy your efi 4ac equipment, as all we've had here the carby 4ac.
  22. If I had to guess, Id say AE71 front section, Ke55 rear. Not sure though. Anyone tried this?
  23. Here is the unit from an RA40 celica that I have lying around. Ive not seen one with a dangling wire, that didn't need an in tank fuel pump attached to the end. It seems very odd to me. Static in fuel remover seems like one of those Hippie crystal Brock things we make up when we can't explain it any other way. Without knowing which car and what if any region specific changes were made, I can't really say. All I know is that looks like it shouldn't be there.
  24. So you are swapping a modified blacktop for a 7afe head? I don't think thats what you meant to say is it? If I had to guess I'd say you were using the 4age ae111 head and the bottom end from the 7afe, 7age. Just like that sexy sprinter above. That page is gold because it has a list of a lot of the parts he used to bolt it all together, if you can decipher the japenglish.
