  1. Shock to shock roll welded in roll cage with tabs will reduce twist easier than anything else. Celica/ Corona struts with Peugeot rotors and hilux/ Cruiser 4 spots. Pintara rear rotors with Nissan 2 spots.
  2. Dude, you couldn't buy Dellorto's for $220. Setting up a good pair of twins will conservatively cost the wrong side of $800. My Webers were $1000. You'd be far better off getting a twin Corolla manifold and carbs and working with them.
  3. I have a great deal of issues with this. 280 kw ATW is approximately 360 kw at the engine. This being about 485 hp. Apart from the fact that I think this is a full of shit figure, you want to put this in a KE20? You'll end up with more chassis twist than you can poke a stick at. Stopping is going to be the least of your problems. R
  4. Ballast resistor thingy....
  5. Erm...... don't know, but I don't think I'm going to make the next round in six weeks. :D No issues at all. Possibly saved damage by giving the lower arms greater movement to go backwards. Simon, thanks for the offer, we'll see what happens with tomorrows assessment. :)
  6. Now the trick is to stay 21 for the rest of your life. :D Happy Birthday, Bloke. :)
  7. Wanted: extra large buff. 16.8 km's into 4th stage, too fast into the corner. Rear quarter went in, and despite my best efforts to emulate the great Finnish drivers and use it to straighten us back onto the road, failed completely and went head first into a tree, stopping quite suddenly thereafter. Car was removed from tree with a 4WD and snatch strap, leaving the Corolla emblem still imbedded in the local flora. Panel beater is looking at it Wednesday. rails cruched back to engine cross member. Right rear quarter also bent out of shape enough that the back window doesn't align. Further updates when I can move again. :D
  8. For a current spec cage, built professionally, $1200 to $3500. You get what you pay for.
  9. Ahhh, I didn't realise you even had a half cage, makes sense now when I look at the piccies. I used to have a half cage in Dwarf, and I remember at least once quickly working out the straight line between the top of the cage and the front of the bonnet. You're right, it did the job, and your all(ish) good. Cheers R
  10. I'm hearing you. I feel your pain! :P Doesn't make roll cages look too expensive, does it? After crunching my beast yesterday and, consequently the introspective navel gazing that comes after, the $650 I spent on my new ultra-light helmet doesn't look that expensive either. Mrs Dwarf is quite pleased, too. Re-shell time for that baby, methinks. Hope you're not hurting too bad. R
  11. Yep. Hmmmmmm.......... As Teddy said, after 16 yearss and over 200 motorsport events, I suppose it had to happen one day. Very similar occurence to what happened at Urbenville, but this time carrying a whole lot more speed. Approached corner too quick, got into the loose stuff, clouted the first tree with the rear of the car, which span us head-on into the next one. Peta is bruised mainly from the harnesses, and I've got whiplash, but overall, we came out of it quite well. I hadn't been happy with the car all day, and I hadn't been happy with the way I'd been driving either. Essentially came into the corner too quick and didn't have the required talent to get out the other side. Car is up for a rear quarter cut, and although I haven't lifted the bonnet yet, radiator support panel, and a trip to the rack for a bit of rail straightening. The piece of 3/8 battle ship armourplating that is my sump guard is still straight, however with all the movement going on, it bent the engine crossmember. Radiator needs to be peeled off the engine. Speaking of the engine, we'll pull that down and have a look at it too. Doors aren't shutting real flash either. Nor does the boot. At least the driving lights weren't on the car yet. :P Well done to Tony and Matt though, big day and a great result to them. :y:
  12. I must say, six hours on and I'm still gutted. I came across him a few times over the years, but the thing that really stuck in my mind was the 95 Round Australia. We set up the Wedderburn stage, and the ten-ish year old son of the landholder stood waiting from the moment we satrted set-up with his pen and notepad waiting for Brock. Three hours later he came through. He'd had a bad day, was running down the field, dirty and grotty from working on the car at the side of the road, but took the time to walk over to the boy, talk to him and his Dad for a couple of minutes, sign his autograph, before having to go into another stage. I hope that boy will always remember that, because I sure do. I may not have been a raging Brock fan, but I will always respect him for the man he was and the ideals he had. It's a round of the Queensland rally championship tomorrow, I'm running up the field, and it's really made me ponder my own being while getting everything ready. A truly sad day.
  13. The King of the Mountain has gone. Sadly killed in an accident at Targa WA today. http://www.abc.net.au/sport/content/200609/s1736510.htm Yet another sad day.
  14. Well..... it ain't going to bolt in, I'll tell you that for free. It'll probably need a complete running gear change for a start. I'm going to close this topic before Flamecity starts. However, I suggest you get a tape measure and a car and start measuring. When you have questions like " the J98 gearbox has no hope of fitting in the current transmission tunnel, and I'll need to cut six feet out of the firewall, I know because I measured", you'll start to get better answers.
  15. No, they're crap. You need to send them to me. ;)
  16. I feel I have been misquoted. Could you please provide information as to where I made this statement?
  17. Found out what caused it yet? :y: Congats Col, we all know the Dad's do al the hard work at birth time. ;) R
  18. Sadly, some of us have been around for long enough that this has not always been the case... ;)
  19. Early 3K's were painted green and had the engine number stamped on the forward end of the block (RHS aft looking forward). Similar I believe to the K motor. Later 3K's were painted red and had the engine number stamped on the aft end of the block (RHS, ALF). I'm assuming later engines were the black ones, but I've never made it past 1974.....
  20. Congratulations, you have now joined that other group. Those that have, as opposed to those that are going to! I feel your pain, Brother!
  21. Yes, it's rally preparation time!!! The BIG Gallangowan rally is on this weekend. Seeded car 9 out of 43. Anywho. Car still running well after last rally. Sending it off for a dyno thursday, just to see what else we can get out of it. Got the clutch issues sorted today, box in and out twice, but had it on a hoist in a workshop, so it was all good. ;) Front panel beaten roughly, I need to get up and see Corolla Andy for the new bonnet soon. New light bar made from 50x50x6 alloy. This one wont bend, but the lights on it I think will go in case of discussions with large brown and arboreals. Visited Pete the Auto Elec today, to have a couple of bodgy things that I did in an emergency de-bodgied. I also happened to mention that my reversing lights still didn't work. Pete waved his magic wand, and a number of things happened. Yes my rev lights now come on, but only when you select fifth. That's fine, however, cruising down the highway on the way home, selected fifth....... and the engine stopped. This was then perceived to be a problem. Much weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth then happened, as I cruised down the highway in fourth with 4.8 diff gears. I'm seeing Pete again tomorrow. :y: Actually polished the car the other day. Who said you can't polish a turd. More in a couple of days. R
  22. The masses have spoken. Do a bit of reading, searching and navel gazing then get back to us. Jason has done an excellent write up of his car in the rides section. You may have guessed from the reaction we get these questions alot. ;)
  23. Keep it coming....
  24. A man deserving our respect. He put tens of millions back into conservation in Australia, a fact not commonly known. Wore his heart on his sleeve, and put his money where his mouth was. A genuine character lost, and the world is tonight a slightly lesser place.
  25. I fascinates me that some people think that forging their log books is a good thing. Have you ever stopped to think that it may be a good thing they're making you do?? So, after 30-40 hours you consider that you can drive? Or even 50? That's just so your not completely out of your depth when you hit the road on your own. I've been driving 16 years and I'm still learning......
